[quote author=opes post=136269148]Then she (Aisha Falode) is not telling the truth.. I would agree that there’s been nothing of this scale in terms of the gifts and after party but Jonathan rewarded them with about 10 million naira (if I’m not mistaken) as at 2014. The Dangote’s, Elumelu’s and Adenuga’s also rewarded the set of 2014 handsomely. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by naptu2: 11:14am On Jul 29, 2025 |
GeneralDae:I suspect that the reason why Aisha Falode has that impression is because of what happened in 2016/2017. The Falcons won WAFCON in 2016, but there was no presidential reception for them, instead the players had to stage a street protest because they were being owed. In contrast, D'Tigress won Afrobasket in 2017 and there was a presidential reception for them and they were given cash gifts. Some people were not happy about that. |

GeneralDae:I'll appreciate it better had the president rallied high network individuals to make these donations to the girls. It's a lot more justifiable that way. BTW, none of the donations made by Dangote and Elumelu has been fulfilled the last time I checked. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by GeneralDae: 11:54am On Jul 29, 2025 |
naptu2:I see. Maybe because this was the most popular Wafcon tournament in history in terms of social media and popularity occurring side by side with the Euros. The Cameroon tournament in 2016 pulled one of the largest WAFCON crowds though for most games. |

Esther OKORONKWO and Mitchell Alozie ?? What happened to them? They were conspicuously absent at the welcome party in abj? |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by lovewins: 2:21pm On Jul 29, 2025 |
M7even:The NWSL and the Canadian league are currently in season. While the NWSL took a break, the NSL didn't do they both had to return immediately. Was surprised seeing Oshoala there but it's possible she has permission from her club to stay a few more days and Alozie probably didn't. |

robosky02:They're just going through the five stages of grief. Right now, they're likely in the anger or bargaining stage, trying to discredit our success by any means. I pray they won't stay long in that stage and find closure eventually. I wonder if Morocco will eventually join the ranks of Ghana and South Africa to become another one of our sworn enemies when it comes to continental football. ![]() |

QueenJazz, to your earlier point, this was when Esther and Alozie trained with comedian Shanks and musician Blaqbonez earlier this year in Lagos. https://youtube.com/shorts/Qsy_tdUsjAs?si=WswWMSAMb3oJViqz |

yinkeys:Tinubu should just collect the account numbers of the girls and send the money to them directly so that what is happening in the military will not repeat itself in our sport. Just like you pointed out the soldier on the battlefield lacking battle equipment is not the fault of the government entirely but on those top-ranking officials. Who uses public funds allocated for equipment for personal gain? And you can tell from time to time that the more we encounter insecurity the more the government puts more resources into the military and still yet we can't find a solution. |

Madugu can keep the Falcons job if he goes for a short course that can help our girls play tiki taka We can’t really dominate teams & possession when we play decent sides I think this will make our team a dynamic side We’d have options to play physical, possession or defensive. Aerial balls alone won’t cut it in the World Cup What do you guys think ? Esther Okoronkwo, Sade Ijamilusi & Jennifer Echegini’s individual brilliance won us the African title but it isn’t enough to win teams like England, Sweden etc Our team can’t string 10 to 20 offensive passes together without losing the ball Although setpiece was our secret weapon in this African tourney |

M7even:Renowned/Award winning FIFA referee, Salima Mukansanga, was in charge of VAR last night in the WAFCON final match between host country, Morocco vs Nigeria. Salima is not the type of referee to overlook just any act, much less in a more crucial game like the final match of the just concluded tournament. About VAR cancelling the penalty, the center referee, no offence, did a marvelous job with the officiating and was fair with both sides, but what she had seen as handball, was in deed not handball. Now let me state the handball rules in football. “According to latest IFAB handball rules of FIFA, if the ball touches a player’s hand while the hand is vertical/parallel and behind the player’s trunk, it will not count as a penalty. Another reason why that call was void by VAR, was because the Moroccan player was too close to the Nigerian player, hence it counted as a hand to ball instead of ball to hand. Look at this photo clearly. It would only take en experienced referee to make a decision, and this was where Salima Mukansanga showed her prowess. Thank you Salima for making the right call. We’ve also known you to be fair and just. 🤝

| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by GeneralDae: 7:29am On Jul 30, 2025 |
M7even:The distance was too close and the hands were by the side while she was on the air. If refeerees start giving penalties for every single hand ball, all teams would then have to do is practice how to target hands of defenders in the box when you know you can't score. |
| Re: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by PDPGuy: 7:48am On Jul 30, 2025 |
AndSunGorilla:Well, D’Tigress are arguably the 2nd most successful Nigerian national team, behind the Super Falcons, so logically, it would be fair for the same government to give them a similar or slightly lower cash gift |

Randy Waldrum or Madugu ? I don’t support getting a new coach with a new philosophy Better to pick someone that already knows the team, strength & weaknesses, players and culture It takes time to adapt or acclimatize Who do you guys prefer? Madugu or Waldrum I think our indigenous coaches are good in the African competition Especially after winning it 9 out of 10 times Are they good in World championships ? If NFF gives Madugu a contract he needs to improve so we can compete globally & not just participate Can Nigeria play with the ball like South Africa, Spain does (possession football) ? |
