At this point, I agree with Goodenoch that this Kemi has a mental problem.

She never passes up on any opportunity to wind us up.

My honest opinion, if visa sponsorship is not required for now, he or she should start applying for civil service entry level roles like project support and administrative assistant, since these roles are project management related that can be a place to start from. Getting straight BA roles can be tricky these days especially if there’s no prior BA experience here in the uk with a reputable company and there’s this general impression that most people are just attending bootcamps to claim BA experience. So civil service entry level roles can be a good place to start and get some good credibility.

I’m a postgraduate student arriving in Leeds later this month. I’d like clear advice on the following to help me settle in quickly:
Best tips for finding a place to stay.
How to secure a part-time job to cover expenses.
Essential documents needed to transition and integrate into the new community smoothly.
Additionally, if there are any Telegram or WhatsApp groups for Nigerians in Leeds, please share how I can join them.

Thanks

Hehe.. Quidco aint bad. I have used it over the years for stuff I was always going to buy. Just checked and I'm at £436 - mostly from purchases. Also nice that when one comes to withdraw, there are additional good deals to be had via gift cards.

Another good discount site for healthcare workers is bluelight card. Na from there I dey buy all my Samsung electronics

I'm currently dealing with a tricky situation and would appreciate any advice on how best to proceed.

I unfortunately found myself dealing with a rogue tradesperson who has failed to show up for the agreed work and has become increasingly difficult to reach to confirm any start date.

I paid him a deposit via bank transfer. Luckily, after I reported the issue as suspected fraud, the bank froze his account.

He’s now saying that once the account is unblocked, he will refund me, as the funds are still in the account. While that might sound reasonable on the surface, I no longer trust that he’ll follow through if I inform the bank the issue is resolved and his account is unblocked.

I informed the bank about this and they mentioned they cannot guarantee he would pay if I agree to have his account unfrozen.

Any suggestions or experience dealing with his?

Your options are limited. You leave the account blocked you may not get the money, unblock it and you will not get the money. So leaving it blocked increases your chances of getting the money because he is loosing too.

He is a trades person and can make money to pay you by receiving payments from other clients using another account.

Ask him to pay you from elsewhere and get his money back once his account is unblocked.

Under no circumstances should you ask the bank to unblock it because once you do you will not have any further recourse. He, on the other hand, has 100% confidence of getting his money once he pays you.

One thing though - can he not give a written instruction to the bank to pay you first and then you withdraw the complaint and his account will be unblocked?

Yes, I see the risk, but I am bit concerned the longer the issue drags on the higher the chance he gets the bank to unblock his account through other means.

You’re welcome. Whatever you do, don’t let him get that money without getting your payment back.

I’ve had so much trouble with a tradesperson recently that I’ve begun looking into proper trades training courses because I hate being at anyone’s mercy and it seems that’s what tradespeople love putting their clients through the most.

Recently had to threaten one with a lawsuit, because of how much he has dragged my project out.

Remember, in the early days when she was running for office she appealed specifically to Nigerians to “support a Nigerian who is trying to improve our national image”. Now she says even when she was in Nigeria (allegedly before she knew she was entitled to UK citizenship), she "never really felt at home there" grin grin

I can't remember who the person was that was going to make Kemi their daugher's role model but I really with them luck with explaining who and what Kemi is in the first instance.

Let's continue watching sha. I know this chapter of Olukemi Olufunto badenough (née Adegoke), Defender of Western Civilisation, and her war on Nigeria, will come to an end one day, one way or another.

The poster is ReesheesuKnack I believe.

She most likely feels the same, because whether you're a supporter, hater or ambivalent of Kemi (and there are many in each camp), the fact remains that she has made history by becoming the first black leader of the "nasty" Tory party (and female at that!). Those familiar with UK history and politics will recognise this as a feat that seemed impossible as recently as 15 years ago. And Kemi was actually voted in by the harsh Tory membership unlike the other leader of colour, (who also did well), but he lost the membership vote the first time and then manoeuvred to avoid it the second time.

So ReesheesuKnack probably still regards Kemi as a role model for transcending barriers, and rightly so.

Lol. Not sure what this epistle is for. I didn’t say Kemi hasn’t accomplished great things for herself. I said I wished the person luck in explaining Kemi’s identity to their daughter given her shapeshifting ways.

I simply responded on the role model point. The poster should have no problem explaining Kemi's identity to her daughter as the very first black leader of the Tory party, who also had Nigerian heritage just like her.

All your gbogbo writeup doesn't erase this fact 😂

Aunty is only hating on what she actually loves. My wish for her is to retire quickly from govt and politics and restore her Nigerian citizenship (am sure whoever is Nigerian president will surely grant that) so perhaps she can relocate back home and have peace with herself.

All those talk of I don’t identify as Nigerian or don’t feel belong is just boju boju. Aunty wants her life as a Nigerian back. It’s glaring!

My writeup was lenghty because it was neccessary for it to be.

Yours was lenghty because you were going on a tangent chasing a wild goose and attacking a strawman that you made up for yourself.

It's good that you've clarified Kemi's identity for the poster sha. I'm still not sure how the heritage part gels given that she doesn't identify as Nigerian at all but I'll take your word for it.

cheesy I cannot fathom her motives but she will retire (or be retired, more likely) from politics soon enough and we'll see what she does next.

I'm pretty sure she'll carry on with her anti-Nigerian schtick because honestly what else is she known for other than being a culture warrior?

Will she continue to attack Nigeria forever? That will be complete insanity. Anyway it will be interesting to see what next after she leaves politics. I just know say she probably miss amala and the likes sha 😂 remember her attack on sandwich or so then, original omo eko no try am o!

Lol your writeup was lengthy because you're quite obsessed with Kemi and appear to be on an active lookout for any opportunity to criticise her.

Re the bolded, don't take my word for it. It's clearly stated in her interview/the article:

Speaking on former MP and television presenter Gyles Brandreth's Rosebud podcast, she said she was "Nigerian through ancestry, by birth" but "by identity, I'm not really"...

"I know the country very well, I have a lot of family there, and I'm very interested in what happens there," she said. "But home is where my now family is."

For someone who is the leader of the UK opposition, the amount of times she's spoken about Nigeria in a personal fashion is surprising. If its not about her 'ethnic enemies', it's false narratives about citizenship or another ramble

In his early days, Keir did a good job of putting her in a cupboard. Now he is struggling, she's been unable to take advantage but has rather continued to languish.
I wish her well.

See, you need to relax and let that bee in your bonnet rest for a while.

I understand what Kemi's trying to say - I think it's nonsensical but I see it nonetheless.

The point was about how a young child would understand it. I expect any child would ask questions when presented with Kemi's fantastical idea of how she was born to Nigerian parents and moved here at 16 but is British through and through and not Nigerian in any way other than her parentage, having declared it so on a podcast.

I know you love to have the last word so feel free to drop that and then move on eh. I'm resting my case here. I need to get back to my workout.

I'm very relaxed, I'm not the one who starts popping an angry forehead vein when ever Kemi utters a word, even if it's on a podcast 😂You need to be calming down lol, Kemi doesn't look like she's going to keep quiet anytime soon.

It's her free choice to identify as British having been born here, moved back here as a child and spent the vast majority of her life living here and even having a leading role in government. You don't have to agree, approve or understand as you have a very different background and thus perspective, but her personal view is valid and many people can relate to what she said as evidenced by the radio call-in I listened to this afternoon on this very topic.

I'm beginning to think Kem is suffering from some form of complex - the kind that makes people talk unnecessarily and recklessly and though they secretly hate they do so but can't just help themselves. I don't know if there is a medical term for this kind, @Jedisco?

Because I'm sure she doesn't need all this unnecessary drama she gets herself into every eke market to perform and excel at the job for which she's elected. We have witnessed various politicians of foreign descent reach the pinnacle of their careers without dragging their ancestry into the mud. I can't remember Obama dragging Kenya or Rishi India in such manner during their time.

Her recklessness has made her a persona non grata to many Nigerians and Africans. And I'm sure it's a matter of time before the British people, whom she's dying to impress, begin to see her for the joke she really is. Personally, I don't rate people who badmouth and ridicule their roots, for there is no greater inferiority complex.

See, I just don't understand the wasted vitriol.

I have read more inane, outlandish and borderline insane statements in this travel section particularly all with the aim of belittling or denigrating the country, some of which I deem to be even worse than whatever horseshit Kemi may have spewed.

That said, I also don't know anyone here wey gather reach half of her level sef.

So again, wasted vitriol
