Mayeldah:You’re right, I agree with you on issues of doctrines. Many doctrines were shaped by cultural bias, limited understanding, and political motives, and those layers have made it harder to find the essence of what was meant to be a spiritual path. My issue isn’t with people seeking God or even Christ himself, it’s with how Christianity was weaponised during colonialism. We can’t ignore that the version of Christianity that reached Africa was filtered through the lens of empire, hierarchy, and control. That historical baggage affects how the message is received and perceived. The fact that many young people today, Gen Z or not, are searching for “truth in spirit” rather than tradition shows a shift, not a loss. Like you said, as knowledge increases, people ask deeper questions. I think that’s healthy. But as an African, I believe part of that truth-seeking includes revisiting our spiritual roots that existed long before Christianity arrived. It’s not about throwing everything away, but about being honest with history and choosing our spiritual paths consciously, not just accepting what was handed down by colonisers. If Britain didn't invade Nigeria with Christianity, you most likely won't be a Christian today. As for me personally, I made the conscious choice of having nothing to do with Christianity because at the end of the day, God is not religious. God didn't create any religion, humans did. God didn't write the bible either, humans did, and I can categorically state the fact that the bible is inconsistent in numerous ways. That is not the kind of "Holy book" I want to live my life by. Not to mention the fact that the bible is incomplete and has been heavily redacted and manipulated to suit narratives. Also, If Christian missionaries had been successful in penetrating the heart of China with Christianity, the country won't be as successful as it is today. Look at it from the point of view of how religion has contributed to division around the world. Use Nigeria as a case study. |

Mattswaggz:Evil is embedded in it. Yea. Your traditional religion is why human rituals, witchcraft and dark magic is everywhere. Idol worship is not "traditional" to mankind, it is a pollution to human existence. Dining with demonic spirits isn't our way, humanity got lost in them. Christ is the only way, know this and know peace! ✌🏽 |

I grew up in southeastern Nigeria, in a small and tightly knit Christian community where faith was not just important. It was everything. Religion was not just something you practiced on Sundays. It was the lens through which life itself was interpreted. Every good thing was a miracle. Every bad thing? A spiritual attack. A witch in the village. A curse. Or a demon that needed to be cast out. As a child, I did not question it. Nobody did. We were taught that prayer fixes all things. But the first time my childhood friend Chika died from a very treatable illness, because her family chose church vigils instead of hospital visits, something cracked inside me. They said it was the devil. They said God gave and took. They said it was not her time to live. But even as a child, I quietly thought: “Or maybe she just needed antibiotics.” That was not a one-time incident. It was a pattern. A man struggling financially, instead of learning a trade or seeking proper help, is told to sow a seed in church and fast for 21 days. A young girl fails WAEC, not because she is unintelligent, but because she had no one to tutor her. Yet pastors call it a generational curse. She ends up in the deliverance room, rolling on the floor, while her peers in other places are in science labs and libraries. Sometimes, the story takes a darker turn. A boy loses direction in life due to bad choices, peer pressure, or lack of guidance. But his parents say the village people are at work. He is dragged to crusades and prophetic meetings. In time, he gets desperate and maybe even a little smart. One day, he declares that he too has received a call from God. Soon, he is a man of God, collecting tithes, faking miracles, and selling anointing oil with strange promises. The same toxic cycle repeats. This time, he is the face of it. Now imagine Gen Z growing up with smartphones in their hands. They see what life looks like outside that bubble. They watch documentaries, scroll through TikTok, and debate on Twitter and Reddit. They compare outcomes and they begin to notice. In other countries, people go to hospitals and they recover. People plan, work hard, and succeed without 40-day dry fasts. Therapy exists and it helps. Spirituality can be personal, not imposed and not manipulative. So slowly, quietly, and sometimes loudly, Gen Z starts to pull away. Not necessarily from God, but from the systems that weaponized His name. From churches that felt more like businesses. From pastors who demanded loyalty but gave no real answers. From doctrines that condemned questions instead of welcoming them. And I do not blame them. In truth, many of them still believe. But not in the way their parents did. They are searching for faith that makes sense in the real world. A faith that does not deny science. A faith that encourages growth, responsibility, and self-awareness. A faith that does not punish curiosity. As for me, I still believe in God. But not in the version of God that needed my friend to die just to prove a point. Not in the God who is constantly angry and needs endless offerings to be appeased. Not in the God who forbids hospital visits and demands only midnight prayers. Gen Z is not godless. They are simply tired of the God that was misrepresented to them. |

[quote author=Fox12 post=136325527]Gen Z & Religion: What's Really Going On? Gen Z is the most connected generation yet spiritually, many feel disconnected. More and more young people are saying: "I’m not religious." But why? Let’s unpack it ; 1. Church Hurt & Hypocrisy Gen Z questions what doesn’t align. When leaders preach love but practice judgment, they bounce. They're not leaving God,they're leaving the noise. 2. Information Overload Gen Z grew up Googling everything. They’ve seen different beliefs side-by-side and they ask deeper questions. Blind faith doesn’t work for a generation raised to research. 3. Mental Health Matters They care about emotional safety. If a religious space triggers shame more than healing, they won’t stay. They want faith that listens, not just lectures. 4. Authenticity Over Tradition Gen Z doesn’t care about appearances, they crave realness. If faith feels scripted or outdated, they’d rather pass. 5. Spiritual but Not Religious Many aren’t atheist, they just don’t vibe with the labels. They pray. They believe. But they want a personal relationship, not just performance. So is Gen Z faithless? No. They’re just tired of performative religion. They’re seeking real connection with God, with meaning, with truth. Maybe the church doesn’t need to be louder. Maybe it needs to be more honest. More human. More healing. What’s your take? Is Gen Z really unreligious or just reshaping what faith looks like? When they ask probing questions about Christianity they won't get answers. They are only told to believe in dogmas that are mostly illogical and unscientific. |

Take for instance, in Nigeria, every Ministry you see is a business centre. 99 percent of churches are money-making avenues. The clergymen flaunt cars and armed security and still want to preach God's protection. The Gen-Z are wiser than their predecessors. |

There is hope for GenZ. They may be the ones to break the cycle of indoctrination, baseless beliefs, and emotional exploitation and manipulation by "Men of God" ![]() Organized religion (in 2025) has very little to do with God and more to do with power and control. |

Sicklebear28:Do some research on projection bias. You used a sample size of what you see as a 'tutor' to judge a Generation but then question a single county [sic]. Don't you see how you made a joke of yourself? 🤡 Anyway, I'm responding on a public forum and don't owe you an education. To assume that Gen Z is sexually perverse when stats have shown they are having less sex, being celibate and contributing to the fertility crisis shows your knowledge of the topic at hand is limited. I would expect better diligence from a tutor. |

cyberbro:Christ is the only way and you go to drink his blood and eat his flesh in the church from time to time...if that's not full fledge satanic witchcraft ritual, I don't know what that is...!! As long as it's from foreign and propagate by whites, it's automatically pure...you people got no idea the kind of evil religion you people are practicing ...in all ramifications, the traditional form of worship is the best, blood is sacred and that's why they don't shed human blood..!! You won't often confuse satanic ritual of blood shedding with tradition practice... Shedding of human blood for ritual abound all over the world and even more prevalent in the same foreign religion you are vouching for...!!! |

Fox12:Nothing but easily available information woke up a Generation, you can't easily psychologically brainwash children from toddler to teenage years as it used to be in other generations, you tell them, they Google it immediately and come up with a contrary opinion, they ask why, how, you started being confused, talking from both sides of the mouth, now they know you are shitting them. That privilege wasn't available in other generations |
