I didn’t get a refusal email but VFS sent that a decision has been made via sms. Has anyone else received via sms?

Hi all,

I've been a silent reader on this thread, and I just wanted to share a timeline of my mom's UK visa application and how the process went for us:

Biometrics @ VFS Ikeja: 23rd July 2025

Decision Email from UKVI: 29th July 2025
(We were a bit surprised, as we planned for a 3-week wait since it was a standard application.)

Documents Submitted:
We followed the usual list shared by others here, but we paid special attention to:

A well-written introduction letter from my mom

A clear invitation letter from the sponsor in the UK, detailing who’s paying for the trip and how the visit was planned

The crazy part is that UKVI made their decision in just 5 working days, but it took GIG Courier another 3 working days to deliver the passport from Lagos to Benin At some point, I wondered if GIG was also helping UKVI make the decision smiley (Just kidding).

We received the passport today and the visa was approved.

Takeaway:
A clear explanation and healthy account balance seem to matter the most.

Happy to answer questions or help in any small way I can.

Cheers

Hello house.
I want to make enquiry regarding UK ihs payment. I asked my friend in the US to help make my ihs payment of about 5k (going for PhD) but it kept declining.
"PAYMENT DECLINED
Your payment has been declined."

I'll like to know what could be the possible cause and what we can do to rectify it.

Kindly help with insight.

Good morning and Good day House,
I have a 5 years visa ,but my wife and 2 kids visa was refused on the basis that i cant sponsor them all with my income ,now i want to re apply for only my wife, leave the kids behind as ties and sponsor only my wife.

My main question is can i transfer funds to her account as sponsor with a cover letter and not drop my account statement and also attached previous refusal Letter.

Also should i indicate we would be travelling together for vacation/wedding aniversary or i should just opt totally and just sponsor

NOTE.we have family friend in the uk as sponsor for accomodation all through the stay and also Different picture evidence with sponsor.

This are the refusal reason

• You state your sponsor(husband) will be funding by paying 350 GBP towards your visit. I note your husband has been issued Visit Visa to the UK. However, the linked applicants are assessed on their own merits. I note the income of your sponsor. Also, now appears to be incurring significantly greater expenditure as he will be funding towards the whole family trip. This total expenditure no longer appears proportionate to your sponsor stated income.

• In determining your application, I must consider your and your sponsor current financial circumstances and the number of people who are dependent on your funds or on sponsor funds to travel to the UK. After an overall assessment of your visa application I am not satisfied if you granted leave to enter as a visitor along with your whole family, that you will comply with all the conditions attached to any such leave or that you will leave the UK on completion of the proposed visit

• Also, you have not established any strong ties to your country of origin to demonstrate that you intend to leave the United Kingdom on completion of a short visit. This means that, on the documents before me, I am not satisfied that you have accurately presented your circumstances or intentions in wishing to enter the UK.

• Considering all the above, I am not satisfied that you intend to leave the United Kingdom or that you are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor. Your application is therefore refused under paragraph V4.2 (a) and (c).

I am welcome to advice and ideas please

Thank YOu

I used the UK VFS Port Harcourt office at the presidential hotel, and yes, they have only premium service, 150 pounds, and the service includes upload my document assistance and passport courier

I also chose the upload my document service and did the uploading myself, from when I got to the center to when I did my biometrics and left the office was less than 15 mins, because I did the self-upload.

You have to join another queue if you want them to upload it for you; that's the only thing that takes time.

Also, when trying to upload your documents, the common errors you should look out for are
>File name too long
>Special characters in file name
>file size is too large (use sites like ilovepdf.com to adjust your documents)
> file contains virus (this is mostly for passworded documents, although I got the error in some documents that wasnt passworded )

The last error is what touts would charge you an exorbitant amount in other centers to help upload your document. The simple, quick fix is to either print the document and scan it again or go to the document and print as PDF. To do this, click on print, look for PDF on the print dialog box, click on it and save the document again . The new document should be able to upload without error.

I hope this helps someone considering using the PH center and to self-upload documents

Enugu and Port Harcourt but it seems they offer only premium services.

Within 15 working days means it can happen in 1 day or the 15th.

You should be worried after the 15th.

If no.. this refusal was totally avoidable. You have succeeded again in raising suspicion on your mom in this 2025– this was not necessary. Why present an underfunded account statement if you are a financial sponsor covering a trip?
What are the immigration profiles of the people inviting her?

Post the refusal letter.

Why do you want to book a ticket for more than two months? I'm sure that if you included this duration in your visa application, they would never have issued it. Are you planning to travel for tourism for more than two months?
Yes, you can carry food items when travelling in GhanamustGo bag.
Pray that you encounter a UKVI officer at the border who doesn't check your ticket or its duration. If you book such a ticket, you may have a difficult time at the border, especially as a first-time traveler to the United Kingdom.

Yes you can, however if you're a first timer, you're likely to face additional scrutiny at the border and stand the risk of being sent back if your story doesnt add up

Please is there anyone currently studying or going to University of Hertfordshire ?
Please kindly signify, i want to make some inquiry as I currently don’t know if my savings is enough to push things through.

I have around 25Meter in savings, and my prospective course tuition fee is around £17k…. After paying the £5k tuition deposit and sorting other things like VISA, IHS, Flight fee and POF, will I still have enough to get a rent over there?

My plan is to hustle my remaining tuition balance once I’m out there as I am self sponsoring.

Please kindly advise me on what to do and necessary steps to take guys.

Your advice are welcome 🙏🏽

Hello. I submitted an application for my mom and I to attend my brother’s grad on July 28. We were waiting for the official invitation letter from his school and we assumed we couldn’t submit the application then. The letter came in on the 7th and we did our biometrics on the 9th. 15 working days would be July 30, past the grad date. Would this affect the decision greatly because they are yet to send a response and it’s looking like it might not come until after the grad.

Thank you
6 months Visa for my mom and I 🎉
It was unexpected because the grad date had passed but we both got approved. Thanks everyone.

Well, my first time traveling last year to the uk, i booked for about two months and thats what my ticket said, when my hubby and I were asked, we said 2months at immigration. In our case though we also were going to two other countries and coming back but we hadn’t booked the ticket yet which we told him and was the truth so we were confident. If you are confident and saying the truth, you will be fine cuz 2months is not unheard of and is within your visa duration.

Hello house.
Please below is a screenshot sent to my husband from DMC. It’s an NSF requesting for additional documents.
My question is, if he has employment letter and up to date payslips would this be enough? Mind you he has no bank account records showing monthly salary payment because he was always paid in cash(he once taught physics in a small private secondary school). Is a bank statement showing monthly salary mandatory ? Or his payslips and employment letter are enough?

Dear Cashmadam. Thank you for your response the last time. I truly appreciate your guidance.

To you and other experienced members of this group, I received the attached email this morning and would like to seek your advice. In your experience, has anyone who received a similar letter subsequently had their visa approved?

I must admit I am beginning to feel a bit concerned, and I would be grateful for any insights or reassurance you can provide.

Cashmadam:
I wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

Your previous trips to Europe will help your case. Travel history to other African Countries don't usually add much value.

My guess is that case workers don't always double check the facts of your previous refusals - especially if the refusal is not from the UK (in your case, the refusal was from Canada). That is my guess and I am not saying this is a fact.

If you included copies of your children's birth certificates, then the innocent error will be obvious. If you didn't, let's hope the case worker will quickly understand that it was an innocent mistake.

Don't worry. Just hope for the best and pray. Keep us informed. Good luck!
