Hi family, please i know 2 ladies that need to apply for an ILR in October . They are both mothers so it skipped their mind to check the validity on their Nigerian parents. To keep the story short they need to apply for ILR by october and the nigerian high commission has given them an appointment in December for passport renewal. Please does anyone have any contacts here in London that could help these ladies. Because they have no other option. |

Do they need the Nigerian passport to apply for ILR? Why don't they opt for using the NIS app instead? Lolli2pop: |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 9:17pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
Lolli2pop:They can use their most recent (expired ) passports for the application if they are not able to renew in time. They could also provide evidence that they have applied and are waiting to renew their passports. |

bigtt76:Yes they need their nigerian passport. Because for example even when attending a biometric, tthis will be their only available vaild proof of Id they both have. |

Zahra29:Please did you get this information from a particular source? I am just wondering if an expired passport will still classify as valid proof of ID. They have no other IDs again. |

Hi guys if for example one’s visa is to expire by July ending and ILR is due by early September, will the person have to renew their visa first before applying for ILR or is it okay for the person to let it expire by July and use the 60 days grace period to apply for ILR by early September? Would the person be am over stayer if she allows the visa to expire before applying for ILR with the grace period? The person in question is the dependent. The main applicant has a valid visa till December even past ILR application timeline. Any advice please |

Lolli2pop:See paragraph 34 from Immigration rules: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-part-1-leave-to-enter-or-stay-in-the-uk .... (5) (a) Subject to paragraph 34(5)(c), the applicant must provide proof of identity as described in 34(5)(b) below and in accordance with the process set out in the application form. (b) Proof of identity for the purpose of this paragraph means: (i) a valid passport or, if an applicant (except a PBS applicant) does not have a valid passport, a valid national identity card; or (ii) if the applicant does not have a valid passport or national identity card, their most recent passport or (except a PBS applicant) their most recent national identity card; or..... The new passport can be forwarded to the Home Office as soon as it is obtained. |

NewT123:NOT LEGAL ADVICE : I would not attempt to put something on nothing.... Don't give HO the opportunity to reject that application, due to applicant been an overstayer (breaking immigration rules)...... FINALLY : What's the cost of renewal vs consequences of overstaying...... |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Zahra29: 12:04am On Aug 11, 2025 |
NewT123:What 60 days grace period are you referring to? You are permitted to apply for ILR from 28 days before completing the required continuous residency period. Yes, the individual will be an overstayer if she has no valid leave when applying for ILR. If her visa expires before she is able to apply for ILR, she will need to first renew her visa. She needs to apply before her current visa expires, but within the 28 day window (ie not too early as it will automatically be refused). She can use an ILR calculator to work out the earliest date she can apply for ILR e.g. https://immigrationstory.uk/en-gb/tools/ilr-calculator |

NewT123:As others have said, the visa will have to be renewed first. The dependent will have the same expiry date as the main applicant's visa, as usual. Just to clarify, there is no automatic grace period when a visa expires (which is different from curtailment (cancellation)). Visas expire on 11:59 p.m. on their indicated expiry date and where there is no other valid application filed before then, the person becomes an overstayer. There is a discretionary grace period of 14 days which may be applied where the applicant could not submit an application in time for some reasons beyond their control. Lolli2pop:They don't have to use the passport but they have to submit it when going for biometric, they can use the NIN in place of passport. They need to explain this in the form that... the passport has expired hence the use of NIN. Use future date when they ask for the passport expiring date else you will not be able to proceed with the application. |

Zahra29:You presented the trade deal as though she did Nigeria a favour, one that Indian leaders couldn't do for their country when in fact she did UK a favour to Nigeria's detriment. Now you're admitting it's because Nigeria didn't negotiate well. If not for others that have information you just tried to mislead people and should be condemned, I almost fell for it. Stop it. |

Viruses:Funny. I "presented" the trade deal exactly as it was communicated on the UK government website. I didn't say Nigeria didn't negotiate well. I have no idea what they tried to negotiate, and neither do you or Jedisco who read in the Gazette or Punch that Nigeria's lawyers were apparently against the deal. My response was that if that was the case the Nigerian government should have listened to the lawyers and negotiated better. Facts are that a landmark deal (according to the gov website) was done. It's not my fault if you and co hear about it years later and you believe it was to Nigeria's detriment. I repeat, perhaps the Nigerian government should have taken advice from their lawyers and negotiated better/harder, like India did, instead of you always looking for someone else to attack. Do better. |

| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by Viruses: 12:32pm On Aug 12, 2025 |
Zahra29:In summary, there was a deal and all parties negotiated to the best of their interests. Kemi DID NOT do Nigeria a favour by striking a trade deal with Nigeria, something Indian leaders didn't do for their country. The above was your assertion and is really misleading. You know this but don't worry, I've corrected it for you. |

Viruses:Kindly screenshot the post where I asserted that Kemi DID NIGERIA A FAVOUR by striking a deal with them🙄 One minute, you're claiming that I should be "condemned" because the trade deal was to Nigeria's detriment. Now you say that both parties negotiated to their best interests. "In summary", your comments are all over the place and don't make sense, but nevermind I blame the heatwave. Do take care and try to keep cool. |

Zahra29:What do you mean by she's shown the most support for her country of heritage? The bold is summarising your post, not me saying it, you're just playing daft because you've been boxed. It's difficult to wake up someone that's not sleeping so you know what? You win |

Teemsz:You wouldn't be able to get sponsorship anyway.you don't have work experience . Leave your sister abeg, she knows you can't pay her back. Find work in dental clinic, and if you want to go to school of nursing please do you just save and do some trading |

Viruses:*Sigh* once again, please provide a screenshot where I said she's shown the MOST SUPPORT for her country of heritage. Lol "Sleeping, boxed"....what on earth are you going on about. I've already said that your comments are rambling and rather nonsensical, perhaps due to the heat. Try and take it easy. |
