When it comes to prayer, what matters most is the sincerity of your heart, not the language you use. God understands every language, even the unspoken groanings of the heart (Romans 8:26).

Praying in local dialect

Feels more personal and natural if it’s your first language. Helps you express deep emotions and cultural expressions that may not translate well into English. Many people connect more spiritually when praying in the language they think and feel in.

Praying in English

Useful when you’re in a mixed group where people may not understand your dialect. Helps in teaching, leading, or uniting people in prayer. Can make your prayer accessible to more listeners.

So my smart Nairalanders, which one is the best

As my people would say….there is no language that the Almighty does not understand.
So, take your pick as long as the prayer is truly heartfelt. Remember…you pray to your Creator, not to listeners around you!

Nor bother to ask me how I take know say na CE you dey worship.
I swear. Lolz. It's like they even practice it till they learn it.

They claim it conceals your prayer points from a listening ear and your prayer would be between you and God alone. LMAO

One even claimed you should never pray in your heart. You must pray out, therefore speak in tongues.

I was invited there few years ago and after service they took us to a corner to give us refreshment.

I haven't even finished drinking my malt before a lady walked up to us and asked us to stand up for prayers. Immediately she started speaking in tongues. I was like "na so una dey do for here"? undecided

The next thing she did was stop the prayer and said we should join her to speak in tongues. grin......The guy standing next to me looked at me and both of us couldn't hold back the laughter. 😂😂😂

I noticed she was angry as we were laughing but she kept her cool, you know how these church girls pretend to be nice in church.

The next thing she did was to ask me, "you, can't you speak in tongues?" I was like............

So for you, English is a language and your mother tongue is a local dialect? Abi? Do you people even know the difference between a language and a dialect? I have known the difference since my primary school days decades ago.

There is no language God doesn't understand, it's left to you to know the best you can use in communication with God.
