It appears Mainoo is 4th choice CM at the moment

Am getting tired of this guy complain .Nobody seem good enough for his "almighty system" .If you cannot implement what u teach , GTFO. Another coach can turn same player into a wonderful one

I also feel the reference to the "system" was quite unnecessary. He probably feels it would serve as a wake up call to Mainoo but it could also be interpreted as the player not fitting into his plans and more questions would definitely be asked.

He says Maino is a player that can win games yet brought Ugarte in when we were trailing vs Arsenal last weekend.

Hopefully, Mainoo wouldn't go and respond with an interview that would create chaos

Understand Manchester United are still working on deal to sign Senne Lammens, talks underway.

Personal terms are almost agreed and Man United are in active talks for the Belgian goalkeeper.

#MUFC try to anticipate more clubs from France and Italy, also based on exits.

Understand Napoli are now advancing in talks to sign Rasmus Højlund.

Positive talks today with Højlund and his camp about contract terms and project for long term.

Manchester United are informed about talks and ready to get deal done if Højlund and Napoli agree on terms.

Mainoo's development has really stunted the past 2 seasons. I really don't know what happened but I pray he picks it up, I love the boy. He could have been our Baleba.

I think It’s clear now that Amorim doesn’t rate either Onana or Bayindir, especially Onana. Reports after that Arsenal game say he pushed hard for the club to fast track the move for Lammens. A midfielder is still a must.

I also feel the same way..considering how much potential he showed when he broke into the first team.

Too bad

He has only really played 2 full seasons na so I don’t think you can say his growth has tinder over the past 2 seasons.

He had an excellent season 2 seasons ago which culminated in him making his England debut and then cementing his place in the starting lineup.

Last season he came back unfit from the Euros and then had a number of injuries during the season that wrecked it for him.

His biggest problem though is that he is not a natural fit for this 3-4-3 with the 2 man midfield. At least not at EPL pace.

Even Bruno is not a natural fit but is benefiting from “my captain must play” and Portuguese parapo.

When Amorim first got here I stressed that some regular players would not fit the system while some fringe players might benefit.

Mainoo has to improve on his stamina/work rate and passing range. I think he has it in him but he has to go get it. If Amorim has any sense sha Mainoo has to be the 1st name off the bench going forward and not Ugarte.

This is mainly political talk. We are chasing a game and the manager had 5 changes to make and didn’t believe Mainoo should be one of them. He does not trust him in one of the 2 CM positions. He just can’t come out and say it.

Only consistent poor performance from the preferred choices or Mainoo seriously lifting his game can enable him get regular game time, especially this season in which there won’t be much need to rest players.

Amorim doesn’t want to be direct. But he can’t escape from it. They’ll keep pestering him, especially if Mainoo keeps getting the bench and Ugarte and Case keep churning out average performances.

If not for his stamina and agility, I would have faulted Amorim if Mainoo isnt ahead of Ugarte already. Mainoo is too much of a talent. He shouldn’t be allowed to go to waste. This season will be telling tho.

He could be that, as well as a Bruno. He has a lot of work to do. I sincerely hope they’re working on him behind the scenes.

Yeah. It is a make-or-break season for him, If the team starts playing well and he still can't get into the team they might look to move him on for pure PSR profit next season in order to help fund the Baleba/Wharton deals.

If he can't get in this season, it will be even tougher next season after the new midfield additions from transfers and younger players coming up from the academy. He really needs to work hard in order to adjust to this 2-man midfield.

If Mainoo is sold because of Amorim I will never forgive him.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by TrebleChamp(m): 7:26am On Aug 23, 2025
That was how the board allowed bald fraud to sell off talented players like Zidane, Kovar, Avaro Fernandes etc, they should not make that mistake again by selling Mainoo. Amorim may not last the end of this season if results are still bad, the new manager might play 433 or 4231 which suit Mainoo well.

Injury real deal with him... Look at the likes of musiala and kone, once player start having injury at young age. It is gonna slow their development... I the span of that 2 season do you know how many injury mainoo has gotten, it is not easy..
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 10:32am On Aug 23, 2025
As much as I agree that Mainoo is talented, he has to work hard too. Every time I watch him, I see sequences where I feel he should have been sprinting rather than jogging or walking, other times, I feel he should move the ball quicker...It is these details that make the difference most times...

Mainoo will be stupid to believe the hype, he still needs to do much more. If you watch Pedri, for all his talents, he covers a lot of ground and that is where Mainoo is obviously lacking...

If na Ronaldo now them go say make them pursue am. E no fit the system. 😂

If I see a considerable change in our game play, I don't care. If you can't find a way to play in the system, then good luck. Because I don't see how you'll say you are a good footballer but you can only play one system.

Looks like Amorim values tenacity above technicality. That can only be the reason Ugarte is ahead of Mainoo in the pecking order but gim gim without sense is a net negative for the team. I really hope we get to see more of Mainoo and less if Ugarte as the season progresses.

If the system begins to deliver result, as a player it is either you fit in or bounce but if the reverse is the case, the manager should be shown the door.

Amorim is just a slow person. You can’t be coming out to talk about or bad mouth your players. You will be devaluing them and making the job of the transfer team very difficult. He needs to know how to handle these conferences better. This talk much with diplomacy is nonsense. Hoping Mainoo does not respond like the other players that we are struggling to sell.

Lol no excuses, he has gotten more support than most managers before him despite the contrast in results.

The 2 CMs in Amorim’s system need a base level of physicality for it to work. You can’t play 2 midfielders against 3 midfielders and have 1 of your 2 midfielders having low work rate.

The onus is on Mainoo to improve in that work rate aspect. We all noticed it when we were using 3 midfielders so one can only imagine how it can be when it’s only 2.

Having said that, your summation on senseless tenacity is correct.
