Please include the borrowing by each government plus dollar exchange rate by each government to justify the reserves

Not only oil price. Good economic policy also helps.

Tinubu is no longer paying subsidy. Our foreign reserve should be 100 billion dollars by now.

But No, Tinubu will rather share it to governors, his friends and political associates who will use it to fund their wasteful, lavish and extravagant lifestyle. Then he will proceed to tax the hell out of Nigerians.

May 1999 — $4.99 billion
May 2007 — $43.17 billion

🔴YAR'ADUA — dropped by 6.6%

Apr 2010 — $40.32 billion

🔴JONATHAN — dropped by 29%
Apr 2010 — $40.32 billion
May 2015 — $28.57 billion

🟢BUHARI — grew by 20%
May 2015 — $28.56 billion

🟢TINUBU [Ongoing] — grew by 19%

As of 20 Aug 2025 — $41.05 billion
It must be the Atiku effect.

Left to Obasanjo, he would have continued his peasant farming OFN legacy with government ownership of companies like NITEL monopoly.

Does anyone know why Baba Iyabo joined ebilokan to end PDP’s 16 years of prosperity and replace it with APC shege?

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

You think Obasanjo is a tribalist like the current ones in power? Absolutely NO. OBJ doesn't care where the hell you are from as long as you can do the Job. Go Ahead.

And that is why since 1999,He had the best economic indices. These ones now blaming themselves didn't even have it worst as we did in 1999.

I keep on wondering what they would have said if they were the ones that took over in 99. They would have simply sold us off to China or somewhere else

This is incorrect.

The spike didn't last for more than 3-4 months (towards the end of his tenure) as against over 8 years of low prices. Again, the peak of this "oil spike" was capped at about $64/bbl. So again, you maybe grossly mistaken about the "High oil price" comment.

As of today, we have higher oil prices than all of Obj's tenure combined.

It was the magic of Ngozi Okonji.
He hired the best people. Nafdac was in existence since 1978 but had done absolutely nothing. Then comes Dora Akunwili who turned Nafdac into a household name. Now everyone has Nafdac number and if a new product does not have Nafdac nobody will buy it. Obasanjo gave us GSM.

He had a far smaller government than we have now and it was not overun by sly contractors and crooked consultants peddling all sorts of white elephant projects and phoney programs aimed at ravishing the treasury.

A lot more people worked for a relatively honest living because the man at the helm had other tools of power other than peddling privilege.

One beautiful thing about Obasanjo I so much love about him is he not tribalistic and you cannot even fashion him to any religion.

He was the president for everybody, Yar'Adua also to an extent.
But this obvious shows reserve dropped under Yardua

There is something mutual about those who increased the FX they met. They all have political will.

President Tinubu is just 2 years old, oil price have not been that high but still saving .I am just imagining what our FX would be by 2031.

And to those who have been shouting it should have been more than that because of the subsidy removal, how about the state governors that their money have been increased for over a year now? How about different projects across the Nigeria regions?
Don't forget he still had to pay for backlog that buhari refused to pay , offset aviation bills and other loans like imf etc, the honest truth is Tinubu has done so well and all the expert economists have said same .
Nigeria is in the right direction with president Tinubu

Omo the guy was an international player... He used to write Margareth Thatcher letters on her own foreign policies, he also wrote American Leaders letters on how American foreign policy could be more friendly. Can you remember how in his first months he was traveling out of Nigeria all the time ? He was meeting presidents for debt forgiveness and the reason why they forgave was because he had created good western relationships during his time as a military leader. I dare anyone in this government to ask or foreign creditors for forgiveness, they cannot because they don't have personal relationships with those leaders. Say no to drugs

Certainly, because since independence Nigeria has not seen a better tomorrow. A country in constant decline as far as all the indices of life and qualitative living. Just check them out, poverty, security & crime, healthcare, education, justice, etc. Practically nothing is better today than it was ten years ago, twenty years ago, thirty years ago....

Today an inflation rate of 30 percent is seen as normal. Today you sell your car for more than it was bought after significant depreciation. Are these things not weird in a sane society.

Obj and Tinubu are words and opposite.

Obasanjo was president yet we never heard of Ronu until now. Let's remember it was OBJ that discovered Ngozi Okonjo Iweala which led to what she has become till date

1. OBJ refused to share the Excess of Crude sales above the Budget price projection. He set up the Excess Crude Account.

2. Most of the Nations Loan Obligations were nearing the end and as such got many Loan Write Offs.

3. There were actually High Crude Price during his Tenure (On the Average).

Obasanjo was still paying subsidy and the same time growing out foreign reserves. He surrounded himself with technocrats and Economist not tinubu that surrounded himself with political bandits and Yes man.

Instead of him to invest the subsidy money in areas and sectors affecting the life and productivity of Nigerian and Nigeria economy like power, education, health, SME etc.

He will rather share the money with Senators, governors , political friends and cronies .

You have come with your false claim. Tell me exactly what was the oil price and stop pasting nonsense to mislead people.

Here’s Nigeria’s reference crude (Bonny Light) annual average price for 1999–2007 using a single consistent series from the U.S. EIA (measured as the U.S. landed cost of Bonny Light—widely used as a proxy for Nigeria’s oil price):

1999: $15.39/bbl

2000: $30.67

2001: $28.16

2002: $26.64

2003: $31.49

2004: $41.16

2005: $57.12

2006: $69.29

2007: $77.90

Source (annual series): U.S. EIA, U.S. Landed Costs of Nigerian Bonny Light Crude Oil (annual table).

FYI: Local Nigerian authorities often quote spot prices (not landed costs), so you’ll see small differences. For example, the Central Bank of Nigeria reports Bonny Light annual averages of $55.43 (2005), $66.46 (2006) and $74.96 (2007).

Compared to Yar'Adua, Jonathan, Buhari, and Tinubu till date, OBJ had the lowest oil prices on average.
