Okunrimeta:
If your case is outside the processing time, you may want to call USCIS and speak with a live person.

When the call connects, mention "infopass". It should transfer the call to an agent and you can ask your questions.
Thank you so much for this info. I was finally able to speak to an agent.

Depending on yoir degree type and educational level(MS or PhD), you can start from the website of schools around you and maybe job boards (like LinkedIn, Indeed, etc)

Good morning gurus in the house. I paid for my green card in December 2024 before relocating to the US. The status of my green card hasn’t changed from “Payment received….”.

I have been in the US since January and there’s no news/update on the status of my green card. Few months ago, whenever I submit an inquiry, they will say it’s “within the processing time” so I cannot submit an inquiry.

But for 2 weeks now, I have been unable to submit an inquiry…it will just show this message “The form submitted for this case is not available for this tool. For more information, call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 or 1-800-767-1833 (TDD for the hearing impaired).”

Does anyone have any information on how I can go about this? Whenever I chat with them, they refer me to the website and it is very frustrating.
Lol..ask around they have offices around states, find the closest to you..6 months is such a long time to be waiting for them..

If you're using foreign credentials YES you would need them evaluated but don't go ahead to do Wes until you know which evaluation org your hiring organization requires.

Not everyone uses WES, I didn't because my hiring company had a list of evaluation companies they accepted.

There's a website devoted to advertising open faculty positions across the US. It's called Higher Ed Jobs. You can click or copy and paste the link to their website in your browser: https://www.higheredjobs.com/

If you sign up and create an account on the Higher Ed Jobs website, you will get job alerts sent to your email regularly based on your interest and the search criteria you set forth in your profile.

Also, if you are a member of a professional body that organizes annual meetings and conferences, they tend to have a job board on their website that you can review for open positions in academia. Don't forget LinkedIn and even Google. Handshake is another website that you can explore for jobs in general. I'm not sure if you will be able to access Handshake if you are not a student in the US. Students in the US are usually able to log in and create a profile using their institutional email address. The link to Handshake is here: https://joinhandshake.com/students/whos-hiring/
All of these will keep you busy.

Do not worry about transcript evaluation for a specific job just yet. If you obtained a terminal degree in the US, you may not need it. If you obtained your degree outside the US, you still may not need a transcript evaluation, unless the selection committee is having a tough time deciphering your courses and interpreting your grades. If they need it evaluated, they will let you know after your application has been reviewed and prior to or during your interview. Now, if your transcript is in a language other than English, an evaluation will be necessary. Hope this helps.

That's a pretty broad question especially if you don't say what state you are going to. In fact the City is most important.

Minimum wage varies per state however living costs is what's important.
So research with your City and find out what minimum wage is and average living costs.

About skilled or unskilled work that requires few weeks training. You need to know what jobs are in demand in your City. Your City might need you getting a car so sorting out driving and purchasing a cheap car might be more important.

I applied for jobs with what I already had.
Use online resources to style your resume to what works for the US. Lots of tips on LinkedIn and YouTube on applying for work.

My first gig was with a contracting agency so find contract agencies that cover your state and apply to their jobs. They usually have short term contracts and get you the work experience you need to understand the US work market.
Make sure you have your original certs with you in case jobs request evaluation

Hi guys. I travelled to the US on the 20th of May 2024 and came back to Nigeria on the 7th of August 2024
Purpose of trip was vacation

Now it’s January 2025 and I wanna travel for another vacation again. Would this raise red flags at the port of entry ?

I’m actually honestly going for vacation

I’m rich and don’t work for anyone. So I can afford my trip.

Would the immigration officer assume that I’m traveling or visiting the United States too much?? undecided
hello sir
I have many things I want to ask you

I140 will take around 14months (plus or minus 2 months). It will take 3 years to get current and file i485. Total should be between 3 to 4 years, if you get i140 approved.

Good morning everyone, I’d love your feedback.

Hey everyone! I know this is a bit off-topic, but I’d really appreciate some practical advice.

I’m planning to enroll in a tech school in Nigeria, but I don’t want to pick just any random program. My goal is to choose a school that’s well recognized in the diaspora, not just in Nigeria. I believe that could help me:

- find jobs anywhere, and
- improve my chances when applying for visas or international opportunities.

A few quick questions to get your thoughts and experiences flowing:

1) What Nigerian tech schools or programs are widely recognized abroad (in the US, Europe, or other countries)?

2) Are there specific accreditation bodies or global rankings I should look for when evaluating Nigerian tech schools?

3) How much weight do international recognition and alumni networks carry compared to local quality and hands-on training?

4) Any tips for verifying a school’s global reputation (case studies, employer partnerships, industry certifications, or visa success stories)?

5) For those who’ve studied or worked abroad after Nigerian tech education, what steps helped you the most (internships, remote work, certifications, or portfolio projects)?

If you’ve got personal experiences, recommendations, or resources (websites, ranking lists, accreditations, or contact people), I’d be grateful to hear them.

Thank you all in advance for your insights!
