FreakyNasty642:. Wrong thread. But I used Bishopgate. Very professional. Even when the first property fell through , and went for the second one , the only extra charges were just the one expended on searches. Their reviews are also good. |

Hi, Has anyone done renewed this passport via the contactless app recently? if you have, how long did it take to get your passport back? Renewed my over 2 weeks ago and it still showing in production when tracked. I know the NIS guide says to allow 6 weeks for passport production but most people online have alluded to getting response 5-7 days after old passport submission. At this point I don't mind getting my old passport back as its urgently needed (it still has 4 months left on it). If anyone has a contact at the High commission, Kindly share. Would be most appreciated. |

Hello, I'm looking for advice on the best insurance company to cover my appliances, such as my TV, against accidental damage. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |

Santa2:Because Nigerian passport is easy to buy. Many Nigeriens, Chadians, Cameroonians have Nigeria passports. It is that easy and cheap to buy, no thanks to the fantastically corrupt Nigerian Immigration Service. This goes to show that many criminals caught with Nigerian Passports may actually not be Nigerian but our West African brothers and Sisters who take delight in bashing Nigeria at the slightest provocation. How ironic. |

They normally place you on a waiting list...... https://flex.amazon.co.uk/ SIA license, working in the security industry... Get leads from..... https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-an-sia-licence I think CCTV operators roles, should come under SIA licencing legislation....... |

Following the recent announcement in July, has anyone received a 3-month single-entry U.S. visa from the American Embassy in London (or elsewhere in the UK)? Just wondering if anyone has recently gone through the process in London (or another UK location) and what your experience was like. Thank you. |

gabiomoesu:No worries bro Using your home address is fine, as long as the type of work you’re doing can reasonably be carried out from there. In my case, I just set aside a spare room as my office. If you own the property it's much easier as you’ll just need to provide proof of ownership (suchh as the title deed or mortgage statement). If you’re renting, I think you may need written permission from your landlord confirming that you’re allowed to use it as an office. So long as it’s genuine and makes sense for the nature of the business, they don’t usually raise concerns. |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by gabiomoesu: 10:10am On Sep 02, 2025 |
brine:Eh ehn? I just don’t want to set off any alarms by using my home address, that's why. I could try speaking to my landlord but it’s a bit dicey as he might not agree. Over the weekend, I spoke to an elderly family friend who has an office and he’s okay with me using his address. The only thing is he might not be able to provide proof of rent or anything like that. I’m thinking I could at least ask him to give me a written letter saying he’s given me consent to use a space in his office to keep my company documents and so on. Do you think that would be good enough? And about VAT, I don't mean to argue with you bro but I've read somewhere that companies only register once their turnover hits £90k. Also, you mentioned you hadn’t even started trading when you applied for your licence and still got it so I'm just wondering why you think it’s worth registering for VAT at this stage? |
| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by brine(m): 6:57pm On Sep 02, 2025 |
@gabiomoesu, you don’t have to wait until you hit the 85k threshold; you can register voluntarily at any time. You get to reclaim VAT on startup costs and appear more established. The VAT certificate is also listed as one of the (4-5)acceptable documents you can submit for the sponsor licence application. You can always cancel your VAT registration later on. Re address issue, you could try checking with your landlord to see if you’re able to use your home as your office address. I’ve seen quite a few people do this, myself included, without any issues. If HO were to request for a utility bill or request a visit, it wouldn't be an issue since it's where you operate from. You could also look into renting a serviced office desk. That would work too but will add extra cost. If you use your family's friend office address, it might work but I'm not sure of what document they will require from you and most importantly if the person would be willing to provide you with such document. |

@Brine thank you, brother. I really appreciate your advice. Regarding the company's bank account, what do you reckon? Should i open it in my name, or in the name of the director I appointed? Also, do you think it’s fine to use online banks like Starling or Monzo for this, or is it better to go with a traditional high street bank? Something else i was thinking about is how you were paid? Did you still receive your standard going rate for your SOC code during those months your company didn't have work? I assume HO will request the company to show payslips right? |

Hi please advice Which career path should someone Currently on a fiancé visa follow when they eventually get the spousal visa and can work. 1) health care Currently has a first degree and 4weeks internship experience in a Nigerian hospital. The option of enrolling in the 2 year preregistration nursing degree seems promising although the tuition is not going to be easy may have to work as a care giver to fund tuition and with support from spouse it maybe rewarding at the end. 2) digital marketing Has working experience and skills. 3) teaching has experience and skills. With the last two would pursue a masters degree in line with these career paths. Please give your advice with reasons especially as regards financial rewards. |

April2525:Don’t go into digital marketing unless you have very advanced skills and the experience at a high profile company to back it up (not skills like Canva design and post scheduling. I mean things like deep analytics, managing complex ad funnels and advanced CRO). The early to mid level jobs in that field are gone and are not coming back. I don’t know much about teaching or nursing but I’d say there’s a good reason why many people go into nursing. They are always in demand and have the flexibility to work and earn more at will. I don’t think teaching has such flexibility. |

I hate to say ‘I told you so’ But just over a year ago, I warned (our very vocal ‘far left activist’) MissJekyll that the people she is painting as saints are not saints. I warned that the Uk labour was like Nigeria’s APC in the 2015 elections. While cost of living is steadily rising. Taxes (employer NI) are rising. Labour is threatening to ‘tax the rich’ to oblivion. Guess who is dodging payment of tax? The Labour Deputy Prime Minister! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/crm4mxrg40pt

ReesheesuKnack:😄😄 believe it or not, it was purely a coincidence. I was reading the news (it broke yesterday I think) and thought to come here and see if anyone had posted it. When I saw your message I decided to emulate the style as a joke. Lol. I’m not invested in any Labour Party politician enough to feel the need to hold brief for them, especially when they’re clearly in the wrong as in the news you posted. I outlined the specific reasons why I advocate Labour on here. There’s nothing more to it than that. If I wanted to do whataboutism, I would point you to Nadhim Zahawi, erstwhile Chancellor and then Conservative Party Chair who failed to pay taxes, lied about it repeatedly and deployed SLAPPs to attempt to prevent the news from being reported. The whole thing was so bad that his lawyer has now been sanctioned to the tune of pay £310,000 by the SRA. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jan/29/nadhim-zahawi-sacked-tory-party-chair-tax-affairs-rishi-sunak |

gabiomoesu:I used Monzo and opened it using the company name via the app. They'll ask for details of the directors(You can use yours). You should open the bank account as soon as you can as you'll need at least 1 month statement of account. I'm paying myself higher than any of the rates for my SOC code the last time I checked. You'll have to pay yourself the specified amount on the COS(you'll generate a COS after your sponsorship license has been approved) every month even if the company is not making profit. HO do not request to show payslips but you need to keep all the records properly incase they ever ask. You just need to pay yourself the correct amount and do a Full Payment Submissions(FPS) to hmrc(I use quickbooks for my payroll) https://www.gov.uk/running-payroll/reporting-to-hmrc |

| Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by gabiomoesu: 6:59pm On Sep 03, 2025 |
@Brine Cheers brother. That means i wouldn't have to start paying myself yet until the SW Visa has been approved then, right? I don't know why I was of the opinion that I needed to start paying myself ahead of the sponsor licence & eventual SW Visa application. LOL Yeah will open the Monzo account ASAP. Such a relief to learn that I can use my details for that. |
