Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), confirming he will formally declare his membership on Saturday, News360 Nigeria reports.

In a post on his X handle, he said, “I will be declaring for the ADC coalition tomorrow. No amount of police intimidation, sealed venues, or harassment will stop this historic event.”

“Lagos belongs to the people, and we will not be silenced.”

His statement followed the sealing of Lion Field in Alimosho, Lagos, on Friday by police operatives.

The venue had earlier been approved for an ADC political meeting. Rhodes-Vivour described the action as an attack on democracy, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of weaponising state institutions to stifle opposition voices.

“It is truly disappointing that the Lagos APC is abusing state institutions by sealing off the venue where the ADC was scheduled to hold a meeting tomorrow after obtaining the necessary approvals,” he wrote, adding that Lagos “belongs to all its residents, not a select few,” and warning that “no amount of intimidation or harassment will stop us from engaging with the people.”

The venue’s closure follows recent reports of disruptions to ADC activities in Lagos, including alleged assaults on members and interference with political gatherings.

The ADC has recently gained national attention after opposition leaders Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi aligned with the coalition to form a stronger opposition front against President Bola Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

For every one kidnapping case in the SW, there are more than 5 cases in the SE.

Amotekun, in collaboration with other security agents are trying.
All the state governors and prominent leaders are pushing for the creation of state police already.

There is no way the security woes in the SW can equal other regions.
