I am in a bit of a dilemma. My previous IELTS result expired while waiting for ITA (Express Entry). I was on 463 (after losing points from age twice) as at the time of expiry. I had L-8.5, R-9.0, W-7.5 and S-7.5 respectively.

I just rewrote IELTS yesterday and the result dropped today. L-8.5, R-9.0, W-7.5, S-7.0
This will put my CRS at 460 instead of 463 it would be if speaking is 7.5.

I am in the healthcare category and if you noticed the recent trend, we expect cut-off to drop to 460s if the monthly healthcare draws continue.

Please do you suggest I apply for a remarking of my speaking test?

I took the paper version of the test. If I request a remark, is it possible for my Writing score to go up to at least 7.0?

Hi every one I’m trying to apply for a uk fiancé visa which IElT is most suitable. (Secure test)

From the videos I watched you can write B1 so you don’t have to rewrite when you want to migrate to spouse visa.

But I’m confused on the names the different test centers have different names.

Let me drop my 2 cents. First, I think I should let you know that I'm an IELTS tutor with over 3 years of experience.

If you want to sail through the IELTS, you have to understand that you must prepare adequately.

Also, don't assume that because Mr Victor prepared for just one week and achieved an overall band score of 8.5, you will definitely do the same. You should note that there are several factors that could have made him achieve that score within a short period of time. Some of these factors are:

1. His knowledge of grammar. He could have a very good command of the English grammar.

2. His knowledge of synonyms and paraphrases. He could be able to say one thing in 3 different ways.

3. His meticulousness. He could be one that pays great attention to detail.

4. His level of assimilation. He could be someone that understands information very quickly.

5. His understanding of the question types. There are 13 different question types in the Reading Test. It could be that he mastered all the question types in all the sections of the IELTS.

There are several other factors that could affect your success in the exam.

In all, just relax, pray and prepare well.

Yes, note taking is allowed. But practice now to get it at a go so you don't waste time.

You should be able to have answer template for each section before your actual test. This will help you and save you the time to want to start creating what to say as you have limited time to waste.

During both exams (my first and second attempts), I skipped the T,F,NG questions and answer every other one, then return to use the remaining time to fully concentrate on and answer the difficult questions.

That was what worked for me in both instances. Maybe I was also lucky and enjoyed God's favour too.

Good evening bro. I always tell those who care to listen, that IELTS is more of strategy and choosing the method that works for you.

I am very good at multitasking and no matter how fast or nuanced the conversation might go, I always do catch up.

Concentration is key in listening. Understanding of words within the context of the topic is another thing. If the conversation is law related for instance, and the speaker mentions "thought"......aside from the "th" pronunciation, you may also want to be sure they didn't mean tort (which is a legal word).

I recall during my last test, a marine biologist was having a conversation with his students. He mentioned avian (as related to birds) and I caught it immediately. Firstly, because I have a natural science background. Secondly, because I knew the accurate spelling.

Finally, something unique happened, I missed the answers to questions 6 and 7 as my mind wandered off for few seconds. However, I didn't panic because I would jeopardize my chances with the rest of the questions if I do. So, I continued from question 8 with the mindset that I could not afford to lose any more marks else I fall outside band 8.5. After completing the rest of the questions, I came back to fill in what I thought I must have heard in 6 and 7. I cared less because I knew I already got 38 very accurately.

You won't believe if I told you I didn't practice for my second IELTS at all, because I was very pissed that the first one expired without achieving the purpose for why I wrote it. I paid N81k in March 2023 and had to part with 273k for the same test in August 2025. That frustration couldn't let me concentrate on practicing.

However, for the first test, I used a wide range of study materials. From the IDP materials made available after payment, to sample British Council materials, to IELTSLiz, IELTSBuddy, etc. At some point, I even used Academic IELTS materials. Any and everything random I could lay my hands on. A friend also gave me 5GB worth of practice materials then (which I unfortunately lost when my PC crashed). But after writing the exam and acing it at first sitting, it became demystified in my head. Maybe that formed why I didn't practice the second time. I only reapplied my last strategy and my result returned almost exactly the same save for speaking which came as 7.0 and which eventually became 7.5 after I applied for a remark, making my second test result exactly the same as the first.

I feel like if I write it again, it will still be the same outcome, as long as I apply the same approach as in the past.

PS: I know you didn't ask, but it might be encouraging to know that I finally got a Canadian PR invitation and applied. That remarking of my speaking test was worth it as I passed the cut-off for that draw by just 1 point.
