The day my father-in-law caught me with his daughter, he stripped me down to my boxer shorts in front of the entire neighborhood. He didn't know I would wear those same boxers to our introduction ceremony.

She laughed so loud that the guy, looking confused, asked what I said. She told him the exact thing, and they both laughed again. Women, I tell you, they know the truth from the very beginning. On my bandana, she had neatly written her number. But I didn't save it. Instead, I collected her boyfriend’s number.

"Guy, my name is Stanley, I will be calling you to ask how our wife is doing,"

I told him with a straight face.

"And if you maltreat her, just know that the whole world is coming to fight you."

He laughed too, thinking it was all a joke.

What I didn't know was that this guy was practically family. He could walk into their house in the middle of the night, and nobody would question him. That was before I showed my ugly head. The two times I visited, the parents just ignored me like I was their wall clock.

So the last time I visited and after she saw me off, I stayed and turned to see her back side. All of a sudden I saw her ex dragged her by hand and pushed her into his car. I swear I nearly ran back.

I also didn't know that Christy had been enduring so much abuse in the relationship and was desperately looking for a way out.

So, one afternoon, she called me, her voice weak and pained.

"Stanley, I'm having serious menstrual cramps. I can't even walk."

I gave my boss the biggest, most award-winning lamba of all time and ran to her house. I was her personal nurse..... I petted her, massaged her back, and calmed her down. Before we knew what was happening, the air between us crackled, and our lips locked. Even with the pain, she couldn't let go. I didn't want it to end either, so I held her tight, lost in the moment.

Until a deep, thunderous voice boomed behind me, shaking the very foundation of the room:

"Between death and vanishing, which one will you pick?"

Sincerely, in that moment, I felt like turning into thin air.

Before I could process it, the slaps started. The old man's punch was heavy, like a bag of cement. He had already locked the doors, so I was properly cooked. Two other men from the neighborhood joined in to "discipline" me. And guess what they said I did?

"He raped my daughter!"

her father roared to the gathering crowd. You needed to see the way the old man was breathing so loudly ad if it was real.

Even though Christy was there, screaming her lungs out in my defense, a single slap from her father sent her into a two-hour sleep.

I thought he was joking when he told me to remove my shirt, then my trousers. The more I refused, the more the beating intensified. Soon, I was left in nothing but my boxer shorts. I cried. Hot, shameful tears. They kept telling everybody their own version of the story, and more men came to beat me. At this point, I couldn't even see clearly again.

I heard someone shout,

"Let's tie his hands and burn his manhood!"

Burn what? Jesus I need you right now! I prayed. But my mouth was badly battered.

That statement kinda generated a huge argument, and it was in the middle of that chaos that the police finally arrived.

Thanks to my boss who got me out.

Later, when her father didn't see the other guy in their house again, they kept pestering Christy. It was then she finally revealed that the reason she invited me over was because her "family friend" had cheated on her and impregnated another lady.

That was the turning point. This same Christy kept coming to my house to apologize for what her father did. I told her it was glaring that her father would never allow me to marry her. Then she looked at me, her eyes filled with a desperate determination. "Then you have to get me pregnant."

It was shocking, especially with my Christian background. We argued back and forth for weeks, but I eventually succumbed.

The day she told her parents I was responsible for her baby, her father nearly died. He couldn't believe I was still talking to his daughter after such a humiliating experience.

What he didn't know was that ever since I started talking to his daughter, my entire life had changed. It was like her presence unlocked a new level of grace for me. I got promoted at work. My side hustle picked up and started booming. Offers better than my current job started rolling in. My boss was forced to increase my salary just to keep me. I got a car, changed my apartment, and began to truly live life.

The ex kept sending threatening messages, but I just ignored him. His chapter was closed.

On the day of my introduction, guess what I wore under my agbada? The very same boxer shorts he had stripped me to. As I prostrated before him, I made sure the agbada shifted just enough for him to see the familiar pattern.

His eyes widened. He stood up, and for a moment, the whole room went silent. Then, he did something I never expected. He pulled me up, hugged me tight, and whispered in my ear,

"I am so sorry, my son."

We are still intact. The boxer shorts are now a family heirloom.

The beginning of the story was a bit confusing but generally a nice work

Good read more of a Nollywood drama but it's good.
