Related to How long do pastors usually speak for during their sermons? What time do you think is considered too long or short by most people who attend these churches regularly?

At our church, we have a guest preacher who we’ve invited a number of times, a teacher at a local high school. His sermons are fantastic - deeply Biblical, intelligent, and interesting - and way too long. Last time he came, he preached for an hour and a half! As a point of comparison, some members of my congregation balk when my sermons reach 45 minutes. This was twice as long!

Well, each time he came, we had asked him to keep it under 45 minutes, but the sermons got longer and longer. The main casualties of this were of course our Children’s Church workers, who plan a snack, lesson, and games sufficient to cover my longest sermon time, but were caught off-guard by having to take care of the kids for that long, and with no idea when the sermon would wrap up!

Nobody stepped in to stop this preacher, but when I got back from my trip, one of the first things my Elders said to me was, “he was great, but you can’t invite him back any more!” And so it has been.

When I was a guest preacher, long ago, at a sleepy little church pastored by a friend of mine, he warned me: “the service ends at 10:30 on the dot. If you are still preaching at that point, people will stand up and walk out.” And he was right!

That's indiscipline if the teacher preacher is given 45 mins...

And ends up preaching for 1.30 mins.

It's inconsiderate in my mind.

A good sermon shouldn't go pass an hour.

45 mins is standard but any longer than 1hr is already dragging.

I admit that they are good, charismatic speakers that would take the stage for 2 hours and you wouldn't even feel like it was 30mins and you will keep yearning for more.

But standard should be 45 mins...but not more than 1hour!

Mark.6.34 And Jesus, when He came out, saw a great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. (Matt 15:32 says it was for three days, even if it's was a whole day self to some of us that's already too long)

Are you comparing Christ days when they can walk by foot from Jerusalem to Shiloh for days with AD2025?
Or you didn't see the "Sunday Sermon" in the post for you to differentiate with special biblical teaching/lectures that can be up to 2-3hrs?

Some speakers will just put on the ego as if they are God while on the pulpit talking, talking and repeating till the congregation will stop having interest in the topic

The sermon itself should not last more than an hour for a normal service except a programme

All these questions are unnecessary…if you don’t want to go to church nobody is forcing you.

As a prophet, I use not less than 14 hours, because navigating the spirit realm isn't a child's play.

A SERMON IS TOO LONG IF IT WILL DISTURB THE TIME OF FOKIES AFTER CHURCH

I think 40 mins is a proper duration . Anything longer people may get distracted

The church has actually done more than your current docile leaders but hatred won’t allow you see that…..for example Emmanuel Iren just did an outreach in Jos just before the benue killings that was sponsored by your govt…also a free school in Ibadan is going to be launched next week by him? How would you know that? Sit down one side please. You claim they’re thieves meanwhile they can’t force your money out of your account but your government can do that automatically but in your mind it’s the churches that should be closed. Don’t allow satan be speaking through your vessel. Selah

30 mins to an 45 mins is ideal. it shouldnt exceed 1 hour. No be one day man go change. If you calculate all the hours of sermons u have listened to since dem born u. e don pass 1000 hours and u still no wan change. So its not really about the hours, however, it should be minimal

Every church is unique, some operate as the spirit leads.... I can stay in the church up to 7 hours as long as the service is lively...

During the time of Prophet TB Joshua, u can be there till midnight without getting bored....

lol standard, some classes last more than 1hr, some seminars have teachers take us for longer than one hour. The issue is most people's attention span has severely dropped, they mentally get distracted by devilish thoughts like what else they could be doing now.


Sermons shouldnt be too long sha so people can even remember what they heard but even when it's 30mins or less same set that get tired of a long Bible class wouldn't even remember what was taught in 30mins.


I don't think the time for a message should be determined by those that really don't care about the message it's self, there should be freedom for people to leave when they are tired of pretending to be in that meeting 😁😀

if you feed well for one week as regularly as possible it would be different from someone drinking only tea once a day for even a year

Did anybody force you to give the tithe?

Government defrauds you after you collect salary but you no see them complain.

Be it 1 min, 10, or 1hour,one thing you are assured of is that I go sleep. Infact because of that I don't bother going to church.
See it is like sleeping tablet when preaching starts, I have slept so tay I started snoring, I have slept spite commot for mouth, the worst na when for near front roll I nearly fall from chair. Infact if we go church for what ever reason, my pikins go position them self for my left and right to pinch me or stabilise me make I no "fall under anointing" aka sleep.
Second place that thing de happen na cinema, the sleeping levels na die.

Any church service that lasts more than 2 hours, count me out.

why should any man who wasn't sent by God even mount a pulpit for 5secs self

But crowd engagement doesn't even mean they were sent by God as well, because a person can engage the audience for long doesn't mean they were not speaking from their ego and self

Na inside the Saturday hangover wey I dey deal with I go siddon for church pass 2 hours? Wetin the pastor wan dey talk wey pass 30 minutes? Abeg o!

Sometimes in my church no sermon, go home after service and think of the Homily. Total 1 hr everybody don go house find market go.

As long as God is speaking.

When he stops, off the mic.

If he continues, incline your ears to hear.



But when a motivational speaker is speaking, max, 15 minutes.
