Please for a 2yr program, do I still need to show that I have funds to pay for the 2nd yr in my account after paying the full first yr tuition before submitting a student visa application?
You paid the full first year?

Was that the school’s instruction — to pay the first semester in full as an initial deposit? Normally, schools only require around 25% of the first semester’s fees as an acceptance deposit.

Anyway, to answer your question: No and Yes.

If you’ve paid Year 1 in full, you only need to show living expenses for one year plus proof of how you’ll fund Year 2 tuition. And what better proof, coming from Nigeria, than already having the 2nd year funds in your account?

Good day gurus in the house. Appreciate how you have always taken time to solve issues and guided newcomers on how to do it right. More grease to your elbows. Salute!!

I just got a refusal for my study permit application on the ground of finance. I see this as a generic response because I followed every details posted by the gurus here and also from other available resources.

- First off, I run a company with multiple outlets in Nigeria and I pay myself N5m monthly as basic salary excluding other allowances.
- I applied for a 2 year PGC program
- I am going alone ( I didn’t include my kids and husband)
- I attached 2 personal SOA - one has 50m +, the other has 53m+. (Please note that there are no lump sum. All monies were accumulated over time)

- I attached GIC of CA $20,643 for one year living expenses
- I have paid one year tuition fee of CA $20,000, just remaining 2nd year (CA$21,000). Receipts were attached
- I attached a detailed table of content and financial analysis letter showing that after all payments , I still have a total of CA$92,818.82 in my account (I even quoted the source of the exchange rate info).

- That money will be sufficient to pay the $21,000 for the 2nd year tuition as well as my living expenses and I will still have over CAD 50k left.
- I attached my company’s profile, tax clearance and company’s statement of account to show source of funds. I even added each stores Sales Terminal reports to show turnover of sales.

To my surprise , the officer said my finances is not sufficient. The news has left me devastated and I need help on how to appeal this

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by JMG12: 5:09pm On Sep 16, 2025
I sympathize with you for your study permit refusal; they assess both sufficiency and credibility. They often scrutinize the source more than the balance.
Some concern
1. Is the ₦5m/month reasonable compared to the company’s declared turnover, profit margins, and tax returns?
2. Are you the sole proprietor/director of the company? and if not, the salary is not verified through independent payroll.
3. The fact that your husband and children were not involved was positive. However, if all cash and the company are in your own name, the visa officer may believe you may permanently relocate the family later.
4. If you’re the sole manager, they may think the business won’t run without you, casting doubt on your “return incentive.”

Your finances were sufficient, but the IRCC most likely did not feel the revenue source was robust, clear, and sustainable enough. They may have perceived the data as "self-inflated" in the absence of independent verification. For a reapplication, you must provide an indisputable trail of cash and demonstrate that your firm would not fail without you.
Highlight your husband’s occupation, kids’ school records, and property ownership

If it was locked due to too many login attempts, the account usually unlocks itself after 24 hours. She can then try again.

So sorry, I know you feel bad, and I’m sure you feel disappointed. Sometimes it’s not actually you that’s the problem—it’s just the way things are.

To give some clarity: Canada plans to issue 437,000 study permits in 2025, which is a 10% decrease from the 2024 cap. Between January and June 2025, only 36,417 new study permits were issued, compared to 125,034 in the same period in 2024—a ~70% drop.

So it might just mean they had already reached the cap during the period you applied. That’s why I said it might not fully be about you.

Relax Plan make sure you give the right documents to show that your are making the money you said you are making in your business and apply again—I got mine on my third try.

I agree with JMG12 questions

For y'all rushing to apply for study permit I wish you good luck.

The truth is Canada is cutting on study permit and to scale through is like a carmel passing through the eyes of a needle.

Tourism is a bit relaxed.

If you must move to another country for your masters degree and source your dream country when you got your residence in your host country.

You guys should stop thinking Canada will open its arms like 2005-2012

Thanks to JMG12 and others for your responses. I don’t know how to reply to each message hence this method.

I addressed everything mentioned by JMG12
unfortunately, I don’t have the officer’s note to understand the real reasons for refusal . The note didn’t come with the letter. What came with it was for me to send a mail for my preferred language to receive the note . I wonder why that when everything I submitted was in English

For further clarification: I added the following in my application that was refused

- my manager’s letter of continuity and work ID
- My husband’s work ID and letter of support taking care of the kids in my absence
- my company’s profile , showing the storefronts of all my outlets , addresses and website
- I am pursuing the program as a business person because I already have a Doctorate Degree.
- I am sponsoring myself because I believe I have the capacity so I didn’t use ny husband as the sponsor, maybe I should have used him as a co- sponsor

Pls how do I get the officers notes because it’s important in case I want to request a reconsideration

Help this helpless Lady oooo

Title: Canada Study Visa Refused Again – Please I Need Advice

Body:
Hello Nairaland family,

I applied for a Canada study permit for Personal Support Worker (PSW) program at St. Clair College, but my visa was denied. This is not my first refusal — in fact, I have had:
• 1 denial for USA student visa
• 1 denial for USA visiting visa
• 1 denial for Canada visiting visa
• And now, this denial for Canada student visa

The officer’s reasons in my last refusal letter were mainly:
• Limited funds in my own name (I relied mostly on a sponsor abroad)
• Weak ties to Nigeria (not enough proof I would return)
• My background is Accounting + Sales/Teaching, so the shift to PSW wasn’t fully convincing

• Completed caregiver training
• Planning to get a job (most likely in Sales/Manager role) and at the same time do part-time caregiving work
• Planning to either set up a small business/shop or get land as a home tie
• Thinking of deferring my admission to September 2026 to have enough time to prepare a stronger file

My questions:
1. Should I continue with PSW or switch to a related course like Healthcare Administration?
2. If I combine Sales job + Caregiver work, will that strengthen my case?
3. Is it better to wait for Sept 2026 intake to build ties, or try again earlier?
4. For those who have succeeded after multiple refusals, what did you do differently?

Please, I really need honest advice so I don’t waste money applying wrongly again.

Thank you all.

Has anyone ever experienced a refusal without the Officers Decision Notes?
How do I request for this that will not delay like GCMS notes.
It didn’t come with mine and all efforts to get it has been futile.
I have tried calling to no avail.
Can anyone share the contacts of how to reach IRCC. I need this note badly

God bless you as you bless me
