You didn't inherit anything, you chose to go down that path yourself.

I know a man who was lazy and effectively depended on his wife. He had three sons, two of whom decided to take on their father's attributes and have ended up living as shameful a life like their dad did being dependent on others.

The other one decided to work hard in life. And he had to work hard as there was no father to depend on and is doing very ok in life despite being the youngest.

Repent and forgiveness from what exactly? Why are we wired to think that we need to repent of anything or be in need of forgiveness from any God? There are lots of genuinely repentant Christians who live miserable lives and their God is totally powerless to change their conditions.
