Hello everyone, my sister’s passport is due to expire in June 2026, and her proposed travel date is April 2026. She wants to apply for a visit visa now. Will the passport’s expiry date affect her visa approval? Thanks, in anticipation of your kind assistance. |

Greetings everyone. A dependant going to join a spouse, what questions are they likely going to be asked by the UK immigration at the POE? |
| Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Cashmadam: 5:18pm On Sep 21, 2025 |
sojimomomo:It is best she applies for a new passport and then apply with her new passport. Her passport must be valid 6 months beyond her intended date of entry. I.e 6 months beyond April 2026. So, ideally, her passport should be valid till at least October 2026. I hope this helps. |

sojimomomo:My relations did with 4 months passport. Passport expiry is December but the 6 months visa was given till February which is beyond the passport expiration date. That is 6 months from the entry date they filled on their passport visa application form. They had 4 months left on their passport. Same way if you apply for 10 years visa you must not have 10 years left on your passport. If eligible for the visa, they will grant your total duration. They expect when travelling you can always attach a renewed passport to the passport which has the visa on it. |

Cashmadam:Not to butt in but UK does not have this rule that is why there is no 6 months guidance found on the official website for visitor visa passports- www.gov.uk |

Hello my people, My girlfriend has just been refused UK Tourist Visitor Visa for 7 days holiday (see refusal letter attached). She's currently a student at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus, and employed as a remote Digital Marketer with a company in the US. She has worked with this company since July 2023 and presently earn $1,782 every six weeks. The purpose of her trip is for a short holiday in London, to relax and experience the city’s cultural and historical attractions. Kindly advise based on the refusal letter. In addition, what are her chances of approval if she re-applies and address the refusal reason. Just to add, the missing salary mentioned in the refusal was, in fact paid the first week of the following month(April) and it appears the VO skipped that entry in her bank statement.

Good evening house, I have been reading and found that people are getting their visa between 5- 7 days. Has anyone gotten approved after 7 days. It has been 9 days now and I am yet to get a response. This isn’t my first uk visa. |

jmoore:Thanks for the quick response. Now extremely worried and anxious as I know 3 other people who applied after me and also got within 7 days. I am a frequent traveler too and been to Europe 7 times in the last one year excluding trips to Africa. |

I took a big risk with my UK visa application, but God came through for us. Honestly, I had no plans of applying in August, but circumstances forced me to go ahead. My wife’s account was disorganized and couldn’t be used. My own accounts were scattered too, most of my funds were in savings, but I didn’t want to submit that. Just a week to my biometric, I had to move money from savings to current, which appeared as “own account transfer.” My wife also sent back some money she was holding for me, and she caption it as “to my husband.” To make matters worse, I wasn’t sure my naira balance would be enough, so I turned to my dollar account. The last inflow there was in April, just $850, a refund from a loan I gave a friend. By August, only $300 was left, so a week to biometric I lodged $1,300 cash I had been keeping at home. Honestly, my accounts looked messy, but I had no option. I decided to apply for my wife too. I only submitted her passport, employment letter, marriage certificate, and cover letter. Every other document like payslips, naira and dollar statements, my employment letter, and my brother’s invitation letter came from me. I purposely left out her bank statement. In my cover letter I didn’t explain any lodgements, I only stated that I use the domiciliary account to save in dollars and also stated that i received salary increment and arrears were paid in July. I also explained the salary increment I got in March 2025 and the arrears paid in July, which showed in my payslips. Although much of that money had already been moved, I still submitted statements from January to date. My wife had her biometric on 4th September , mine was on the 8th, and today, we both received collection mails at the same time and visa issued to both of us. Normally, my renewals take 8 days, but this one took over 2 weeks. My travel history is strong: valid 5-year US visa, two previous UK visas, and visits to France, Ghana, Rwanda, and Morocco. My wife, on the other hand, had no travel history at all and doesn’t earn much compared to me. Honestly, I feared the recent transfers and lodgments would cause refusal.I also made a mistake while filling out my wife’s application form. In the section asking how much she would be spending, I mistakenly entered the amount I intended to sponsor her with. However, I believe I clarified this in my sponsorship letter and in the additional information section. |

aminubala20:Congrats on your visa and that of your wife. This is such a relief. I have made sure to explain funds but I have just been worried because of how erratic some visa officers can be. You are the first person who has said they got their visa in 2 weeks. Nairaland has been my therapy as well as the reason for my heightened anxiety 😥 Honestly the not knowing and the long weight is mental torture |

Good evening family, i have been following this forum for a very long time from Ghana. My niece UK Visit visa refused on the following grounds 1. You state that you have a husband and daughter in Ghana. However, your family's wider social and economic circumstances are not demonstrated for me to be satisfied that is credible in relation to your wider circumstances in Ghana. You have never travelled outside of Ghana, and you do not satisfied that this a genuine visit and that you would come to the UK for tourism and sightseeing. 2.I have considered the various information submitted along with your application. In support of your application, you have submitted a personal bank statement. However, i noted unexplained cash deposits made to reflects your financial circumstances in the country of your residence. From the information you have provided i am unable to establish the source of these funds and whether they are in your exclusive control and available for your proposed visit to the UK. As such, i am not satisfied that you have provided a reliable portrayal of your current personal circumstances nor satisfied that your intentions to visit the UK are as stated and that you will leave at the end of your visit. In the light of above, I am not satisfied that your personal and financial circumstances are as stated by you. I am therefore not satisfied that you intend to leave the UK, at the end of your visit and that you are genuinely seeking entry as a visitor. Your application is refused under paragraph V 4.2 (a) & (c). please can someone please help me with understanding for the first paragraph and shed little bit of paragraph 2. I want to make another application to visit my uncle graduation next month. please i need an advice on this. Thank you

Komfo:They are not convinced that you have enough ties to Ghana to return after your visit You don't have enough travel history, seems you have never travelled out of Ghana for tourism so your first time being the UK is suspect Do you a long history of employment in Ghana? How long did you say you wanted to stay? Do you have family in the UK that didn't come back? |

Question1:So based on this refusal it seems she wrote that she earns 1785 per month instead of twice that which is biweekly. Please check what was filled on the form. This is important because the cost listed for her trip is almost all of her monthly income so why would she spend her monthly income on a trip . Note ehe VO also mentioned she had no savings. Check what was filled in the form in the savings section Look through her bank statements thoroughly what ever goes out of her account as expenses must tally with what she put as her monthly expenses. Based on the refusal it doesn't. Look if she spends most of what she earns then this visa application will likely be refused again. So if you are paying for this trip just indicate that and add your savings account statement. Else she will just reduce her expenditure, improve her savings and apply in a few months time. The salary inflows mistake you can highlight the inflows with a coloured pen or asterisk it and include explanation in the additional information section. |

Hi please I have a question I have a f1 visa denial b4 but during my school application my agent didn’t know so she didn’t declare it I already got a offer but I’m just asking, I haven’t paid anything yet, my agent say we should leave it like that and if asked in pre CAs I should also say no, cause the school would not give CAs ,but we’d declare during visa application. So now I’m curious if I should trust her judgment or just say it still?? Anyone with similar experience or knowledge |

aminubala20:I believe your previous UK visa approvals made a way for you. If a first timer tries this, the reasons for denial will be very long. |

Gurus in the house, please assist. I have a remote job and i get paid directly to my dorm account, in light of the tax restructure, the advice is to register and use my company account as companies have a N50m non-taxable annual threshold, my question is, would this affect my application as my contract letter and payslips are in my name? i cant meet the company to draft a new contract in my company's name, would this be an issue? or would a cover letter be sufficient to explain it? Thanks in advance |
