2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Race: Falconets soar over She-Amavubi in Kigali

Nigeria’s U20 girls, Falconets, pipped hosts Rwanda 1-0 in a 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup second round, first leg qualifying match in Kigali on Sunday.

Both teams fought hard on the pitch of the Kigali-Pele Stadium, located in the Nyamirambo district of the city, but there was no breakthrough for either side in a gritty first 45 minutes.

Alaba Olabiyi scored from a goalmouth scramble off a corner kick in the 70th minute to give Nigeria victory, and put smiles on the face of Head Coach Moses Aduku in his first outing with the team.

Both teams will clash in the return at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan on Saturday

This kid is a warrior, no doubt.
Sorry, but why is she not a contender for WAPOY (Woman African Player of the year) again?
She most certainly deserves to be in the mix. Most definitely!

Wasn't the #3 the one that Magudu took to WAFCON as a home based?
I see they are trying to recycle her through the system, as she was not particularly impressive during the WAFCON.

Also, the #10...I mean, how many times must this girl be recycled through the age grade teams? Between the U17s and the U20s, she must have done multiple tours of duty. Enough of this nonsense, please. She is not good enough and probably will never be.

Time to explore other more prospective options!

Yes Miracle Usani was at the WAFCON. They are not recycling her, this is her age group. Just like Taiwo Afolabi who played at the U17s twice. Neither player has been to the U20 world cup.

She’s good but still need to get better and better at least up to 70% of Barcelona and Spain International Patri Guijarro (the best DM in the World) level..

Age is on her side so let’s give her a little time, thank Goodness she’s now a starter and in good position to bench Halimatu Ayinde anytime soon.

We have a total of 42 players of Nigerian decent participating in this year's NCAA division 1 Women's Soccer season. They include players like:

1. WAFCON Champion Chioma Okafor

2. Colleen Udoh, daughter of Colin Udoh and Super Falcons Legend Mercy Akide

3. Skillful forward Joy Okonye who scored 2 free kicks just a few days ago to begin her season. (I've highlighted her before on this platform

4. Former flamingoes captain/players Alvine Da Zozzu and Etim Edidiong

5. 3 players playing for Randy Waldrum.

The link below contains the full list. Think it's a good page to follow in my opinion.

https://x.com/naijancaaqueens/status/1955649897849331727?t=YZ3ZANytwa2WeW2haWIchA&s=19[/quote]Joy Okonye currently leads players on Nigerian decent at the NCCA in goals and assists.

She has 5 goals and 5 assists so far this season (in 10 games.

BTW, I don't know how old she is because there's no verifiable information online indicative of this, I however would have loved to see her at the u20 world cup. I'm guessing she should be 19+ being a junior

Below are links to 2 of the crazy goals she scored just 4 days ago. Just amazing stuff.

Nigeria 4-0 Rwanda: Falconets to face Senegal or Algeria in fight for Poland 2026 ticket

Nigeria’s U20 women’s team underlined their dominance in African football with a convincing 4-0 victory over Rwanda at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Saturday, sealing progress to the next stage of the 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Falconets, who had earned a narrow 1-0 win in Kigali in the first leg, completed a 5-0 aggregate triumph to book their spot in the third round, where they will face either Senegal or Algeria.

From the outset, the hosts dictated the tempo with fluid attacking play and sharp movement.

Their breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Janet breezed past her marker on the right flank and squared for Precious, who calmly slotted home to open the scoring.

Barely three minutes later, the Falconets doubled their advantage in spectacular fashion. Fatimah curled a corner straight into the net, leaving the Rwandan goalkeeper stranded and the Ibadan crowd in raptures.

Nigeria’s FalconetsThe Nigerians returned after the interval with the same intensity.

Just on the hour mark, Janet, who had been a constant menace for the visitors, fired a thunderous strike from distance. The Rwandan keeper got a hand to it but failed to keep it out as the ball nestled into the bottom corner for 3-0.

Substitute Afolabi added gloss to the scoreline deep into stoppage time with a composed finish, capping off a dominant display that showed Nigeria’s attacking depth and technical superiority
.
With qualification for Poland 2026 in sight, the Falconets will now turn their attention to the third round.

Senegal, who hold a 2-0 advantage over Algeria from the first leg of their tie, remain favourites to meet Nigeria in what promises to be a highly competitive clash.

I expect a good number of the current U17 girls like Shukurat Moshood to be part of this falconets team next year when the next round of qualifiers start. I would also like for the NFF to reach out to Joy Okonye of Brown University, if she is still within the age group. Senegal/ Algeria will be a much tougher test than Rwanda.

The 3rd goal was just brilliant. Impressed with how quickly she switched her legs to make that shot.

True. Using her left to turn it in was smart. GK had no chance as she never expected that leg switch.

Blistering hat trick by Gift Monday. Pretty much destroyed Alozie’s Houston Dash this afternoon in DC.
Seems to be playing with a lot more confidence and control now.
