No need for confusion compared to those on visas like skilled workers and student visas, those on bno visas, family visas and private life can apply to get the NRPF conditions lifted unlike others. That’s a clear seperation
Those on other immigration routes can also apply to have the NRPF condition lifted:

"You have permission granted on any other immigration route and you want to apply on a discretionary basis because your circumstances are particularly compelling"

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-for-change-of-conditions-of-leave-to-allow-access-to-public-funds-if-your-circumstances-change

The below report also shows that despite the ability to apply for a change of their conditions,

British National (Overseas) from Hong Kong accounted for under 50 applications for Change of Conditions, of which just 17 have been accepted. compared to other nationalities that average in their thousands.

It is even well specified from the link you shared on those who can apply for NRPF conditions being lifted, those on family routes, private life and bno visas. So it’s not true that other visas routes can apply. Again that’s so clearly written.

ILR reform has promised to scrap!

The way the UK is now, spend less, stockpile on cash to give yourself the possibility to explore an alternative course of action. Avoid any long term investment that cannot be salvaged or easily exited.

Very cruel and little sense in locking people into a restrictive SWV for 10years & that is not even the worse thoughts out there. They are threatening more restrictions!

Last, last many of their changes will push many of the tax paying migrants who are not dependent on benefits away and leave then stuck with the one they house and pay a stipend to from day 1.

Since they have been aggressively pushing these policies, legal migration has declined rapidly while illegal migration has increase sharply. Common sense should have prevailed that the approach isnt right, but not here.

Ok, I hear you. Let me play along and please humour me.

I currently have about £20k cash saved up.
Family of four( husband, wife, and 2 kids)
If my SWV/ILR gets pulled from under my feet, what are my options?

Where can I move to with my cash reserves?

NB - I’m not in the medical/healthcare field.

When policies are based on deliberate misinformation and disinformation what do you expect? Even MAC the advisory panel has done several research to dispel some of these false narratives like legal migrants are stressing the nhs where they said they are even the healthiest group in the society who rarely use the nhs still every word out there is how migrants are the ones blocking nhs appointments for citizens. They also once said International graduates and those on post study visas were earning less than the average brit on low skilled jobs, MAC dispelled that too. Lies upon lies everywhere. For as long they continue to lump everyone together whether illegal or legal or those seeking asylum the saga continues.

I am not in either field either, but facing the prospect of being locked in a 10-year restrictive visa (during which there is likely to be more changes before the 10 years is up) and being on a temporal visa that would need to be renewed every few years, for me it is a wakeup call to seriously consider the alternatives.

You also need to consider the fact that on the balance of probabilities you are more likely to have a breakdown in a relationship with your employer or a more servitude-like conditions once your employer realises they have to put up with you for 10 years and not many other other employers can offer you a SWV on a high salary band.

I also dont intend to renounce my Nigerian citizenship.

You can sit tight and be slow-boiled, or you can smell the coffee and seek out what your alternatives are as a back up plan at least

What are the actual alternatives bro? Not some vague aspire to perspire speech. Should I go to Canada? On what visa? USA…again on what visa? Etc. I’m actually being open to hearing other ideas. I know a lot of people are in my boat, so doesn’t have to be specific to me.

USA on EB2 or EB1.

EB1 might be preferable if you're more advanced in your career but for most people already doing well in their careers EB2 is attainable with a few months of work to prep, and it's even better for a family because the lag time between submission > approval > priority date becoming current gives enough breathing space to put affairs in order before leaving the UK.

The USA jobs market is much stronger and you'll get paid a lot more if you have a solid profile, ceteris paribus.

Well said!

If you also submit if you are like 3 or 4 yrs in on a skilled worker visa, you would have completed your citizenship stuff here before it becomes current

To put it into context, if your application is successful, for every job in the UK that pays £50K in the UK, you will likely earn x 4 of that in the US on a green card without being reminded every 2 days that you are the reason why bad things happen to the UK ...

May Jah help us smiley

There is a possibility that the ILR might not apply retrospectively and may only apply to individuals already on the routes when the rules are introduced.

Forcing people to work for the same employer for 10yrs is peak wickedness. Unless the visas are made to make job switching easy, otherwise, it's nothing but a modern-day slavery.
