These companies if traced will all be linked back to one greedy person ..Lagosian electricity users should prepare for massive exploitation and extortion , you will soon started hearing things like 500 Naira per KWH and annual metre License charge of 30k ..just watch |

No more excuse for the states You can now get investors to invest in power distribution in your states. State governments can also also partner with the private sector for the construction of ports instead of waiting for the federal government |

This does not change anything. The elephant in the room is the massive subsidy on power, and the underpaying of discos by a large percentage of nigerians. As well as the fact that at least 30% of nigerians do not pay for power, and less than 20% of nigerians actually pay above market price. No matter how many times you change discos and gencos, the problem will still remain. And anytime discos cut power, nigerians use violent means to intimidate them to restore power,or bribery, and the power theft and underpaying continues. And we expect a sector that made less than 360 million pounds sterling equivalent last year to be like the UK power sector that made about 1 billion pounds annually in the last 4 years.? Nigerians self. Even Aso rock is running away from the grid...as are many Nigerians, meaning customers are also reducing.. And we expect 24 hour light. Okay....call me when you wake up from the dream that you travelled to London after buying airplane ticket for N1000 only. ![]() |

Step by step. ⚫️ Now states can license companies to generate electricity. ⚫️ Now states can license companies to distribute electricity. ⚫️ Now states can have their own mini grids. ⚫️ Now states can remove the ridiculous subsidy. |

FarahAideed:Oga, let's end this your marxist jokes and commentary At the moment, discos cannot raise prices on most of their consumers. Only on band A , and even then it is not up to 300 naira As a result, disco profits are at 1trillion naira annually. That seems like a lot, until you realize that we need 10 trillion naira (I am quoting the experts by the way) annually to fix power to everyne's satisfaction. Right now, less than 20% of consumers are paying market price tarrif, most are paying subsidized tarrif, and even those that pay subsidised tarrif, many underpay or don't pay at all. Can you run a business where you are making profit from less than 20% of your consumers and losing money on the rest. Call me oppressor, but what you are indirectly campainging for is for government to take loans to subsidize power. That is what the USSR was doing to keep the lights on at cheap prices, until their economy was in severe debt by the late 1980's. They were also guaranteeing subsides for their satellite nations and allies. And they were borrowing from the same imperial capitalist west. Call me oppressor, but , and forget about tinubu and apc, I have known this since GEJ privatized power, and I wish he had had a backbone....and allowed deregulation...it is going to cost a lot of money to fix our power sector. And most of it is going to come from our pockets. Or how did we get the GSM/Internet network that enables me to type this from home, instead of going to internet cafe back in the day...it wasn't by MTN and co charging N2 for subscription in 2003! |

Most of the discos serve areas beyond state borders. They will be required to register new companies that will be licensed by the state energy regulators once the states take over regulatory functions. naptu2: |

nairalanda1:At 209 Naira peor KWh , I am already paying more than half of American states for a KWH and you are saying I should pay even more despite the American minimum wage being 42 times more than ours ? Some of you don't want to be realistic...Instead of govt to force the Discos to meter all the subscribers first y'all keep talking about Tarrif increase all the time , in the last 8 years Tarrifs have been increased 6 times , where did that lead us ? If you increase it to 1000 Naira a KWH in 9 months inflation will eat it again and you will come here and start saying Nigerians are not paying enough....Ask yourself why are Disco afraid of metering their customers even though the customers are willing to even pay for the cost of buying the meters ? It's because they are hiding fraud , the silly fraud where the use estimate bills to steal from Nigerians and refuse to pay for Genco supply...see some of us know exactly what's going on in that industry |

madridguy:You must pay the amount of money that will enable the gas companies to produce their gas and pay their workers, enable the generation companies to buy and maintain equipment, generate electricity and pay their workers and enable the distribution companies to distribute electricity, maintain their equipment and pay workers, otherwise you will have no electricity. Workers are not going to work without salary and companies are not going to work without equipment. You can't get electricity that way. The result of that is blackout. |

FarahAideed:That’s why you always get sad anytime Lagos is in the news? Because it’s the former capital that got moved since 1991? 34 freaking years ago. Your descendants will probably continue this cry of former capital if you fail to build your states and leave Lagos the F alone to sort itself. I’m sure by 2200, when Lagos keep progressing, someone in Alaibo will still be crying say na former capital. |

FarahAideed:Yes, and most of your countrymen are not paying that high, and most of them are not paying at all....so consider this is part of why your bill may be that high. Plus in USA...everyone pays their power bill...and please don't lie...I have people in the USA...and what they pay for power for a one bedroom flat in say New Jersey in one month is what people on band B pay in three months. But when everyone pays their power bill, the profits increase and eventually prices will fall...see the GSM sector. So, stop grumbling. We have to accept hard truths in this country. E get why Obasanjo and GEJ privatised power....government ownership was not working because government did not have the funds , before corruption came in to wreck havoc. Again, we need 10 trillion naira annually for 10 years to get power for 24/7. Is any investor that is decent going to come in to a sector where 80% of the customer base are underpaying for power? Lord knows, I wish we could have power at N10 per kwh. But that is fantasy |

| Re: Lagos Licenses New Discos, Replaces Eko, Ikeja Electric by Ttalk: 5:28am On Oct 06, 2025 |
nairalanda1:Your argument seems not to be in line with reality. Two of your points are entirely ridiculous. 1 You claim Nigerians don't want to pay for power. That is not true, examples abound where you see people go as far as linking 33 kva where they could get enough regular light, these people don't complain about the cost and the bill they will pay provided they get light 2. Your assertion that Nigerians are charge undervalue of service render is not true. There is no empirical data from you to back up this claim as many who generate power themselves have discovered that it is more cheaper and maintenance cost of electricity is the very low once these power infrastructures are installed. The whole lots of subsidy you talk about won't be there if the management of disco are prudent and not enmeshed in massive corruption. Now that everyone is investing in private power, your disco will only be left people at the end of the ladder who doesn't value and can't afford electricity. The management of power sector needs complete overhauling and adopt modern technology in their service. Stop defending the failed power sector as they are not doing us any favour |
