what if your family member is not able to make the call and a stranger is the only option available to reach to you and maybe save their life?
That’s just not my reality. If it was then obviously I would have my phone on loud next to my head when I sleep. Alhamdulilah, that’s not the case for me.

That no stop me from putting my phone silent or on plane mode if I want to sleep. I can't have hectic day and still can't rest well for 2morrow's work because of phone call.
It's good to rest but learn how to pick your calls, you never can tell when one is trying to save you from danger . The country is messy ..Even if you just had an argument with someone and the person calls in a space of a minute, pick up please. Life itself is full of mystery. I do switch of my phones while sleeping years back but after it almost cost me something important,I learnt to leave my phones on while sleeping. Its better I pick and know the reason for the call

The question is, is the man supposed to have raised the friend from death if he was reached?

Mscheew. His phone being on would’ve made it worse. He would’ve seen the corpse fresh.

Bad things happen in life. Good things also happen. We have to accept both equally.

One problem I’ve noticed with many Nigerians is that we love using things without fully understanding how and when they should be used — and that often leads to misuse.

Ever since I started living alone, my phone is always on and reachable — loud ringtone, data on, and “available” status. To me, it’s common sense. If someone calls at 2am, I assume it’s an emergency.

My pastor once shared a story about a man who was kidnapped on his way from Lagos to Ibadan for a burial. The first group (going to the same burial) driving ahead of him narrowly escaped the kidnappers and kept trying to call to warn him — but his phone was on silent mode. He didn’t pick up, drove straight into danger, and was taken. Thankfully, he survived, but when he was released, he later told them that he 12 missed calls on his phone after the kidnappers surrounded and abducted him. Those calls could have saved him if only his phone hadn’t been silent.

That story stuck with me.

With the security challenges we face in this country, it’s not wise to put your phone permanently on DND or silent. Think about it —

What if there’s trouble in your neighborhood and someone’s trying to warn you?

What if a loved one has an emergency and can’t reach you?

What if a job or opportunity comes your way, but your phone is unreachable?

We live in unpredictable times, and staying reachable is more than convenience — it’s a safety measure.

Let’s be more alert and intentional. Living in Nigeria sometimes feels like living in a war zone, and awareness is one of the few defenses we have.
This was how my friend lost a job in an oil company. Till today he still cries over it. All in the name of DND

My phone is currently on DND and will continue to be.

Never had life threatening emergency call, and will never have
Typical Nigerian. The ignorance is too strong

hmmm life is not a one way traffic.

DND can end your life and put you in real danger. Ask me how?

I will never try it.
No stress yourself explaining to him.
Nigerians are ignorant by choice.
Let the guy continue with his DND till the day it'll be about him. Obviously he'll say it'll never be his portion because he has God, forgetting that faith without works is dead

My phone automatically switches off by 11 pm in the night and turn on by 5 am the following morning.
Very dangerous.
Have you heard about hospital emergency at 3am? Or neighbors calling you to be on alert about a threat.
You have access to a technology that people died in the past because they didn't have access to.
No shout it's not your portion like the average ignorant Nigerian.

Took me 2 years to forgive myself: Man recounts the outcome of putting his phone on DND after losing his friend.
So what would you have done if they reached you? How did we cope.when we did not have mobile phones? You better go and find something truly evil.to feel.guilty about, my friend.

The people justifying DND, may you not miss an opportunity that will change your life forever, or to save yourself or someone else or to say your final goodbyes. The doctor that was recently killed by bandits in front of his gate had his phone on DND and missed several calls from his neighbors warning him not to come home. He drove right into them and was gunned down then butchered.

I think you can receive messages on DND..

My phone automatically goes on Night mode around 12 which in turn switches on DND.

I think one can always set it up for certain numbers/ contact to bypass DND ..

Cause some contact like my mom call dey always enter if my phone is on DND or so ..

BTW, if that person is not a doctor, what would calling her change about the sick person ..

I am a father of 2 solid boys, but we don't stay together. But whenever I want to sleep , I'm always on flight mode. I know it's bad. But I'm certain nothing is going to happen to my loved ones or those around me. Help will always locate those that needed me. Body no be stick.

Hmmmm... I understand you though, but I don't like distractions when I want to rest or sleep, so my phone is either on DND or switched off..

I hope and pray nothing bad happens anyway
Yeah, nobody prays anything bad happens,

but unforseen emergencies can come up at any odd hour

-and YOU or any other close person might be in danger.

A stitch in time could saves nine.

dey use sense reply now ....read before you reply most times.... naturally, you can put your phone on DND when you didn't order or not expecting anyone...but why will you pick up your phone, order for things online then leave the phone on DND? Does it make any sense to you?

All of these are, in my opinion, excuses Nigerians use to distract themselves from discussing the rationale behind not having a fully operating emergency service system in the year 2025. That is just what all of this is to me. undecided
