How I Learned To Mind My Business After Being Beaten On Set – Opebe by DyshApp(op): 10:36pm On Oct 15, 2025
Veteran Yoruba comic actor Yomi King, popularly known as Opebe, has opened up about some of his early struggles in the movie industry — and it’s not the kind of “acting” you’d expect!

In a recent chat on Behind The Fame Podcast, Opebe revealed that many of the beatings he received while filming weren’t scripted — they were real! 😩

According to him, he faced actual blows on set, especially during one unforgettable scene with Yinka Quadri in the old Yoruba movie Eku Meji.

In his words:
“Those sufferings were beyond acting; they were real beatings. That’s what they call acting, you have to do it well and real for people to know it truly happened. Baba Suwe doesn’t mind. Anyone that knows him well knows he will beat you directly; ask the director.”

He went on to explain that the beating from Yinka Quadri wasn’t just “for the camera” — it was personal. Apparently, Opebe had earlier sided with Baba Suwe during a misunderstanding between the two actors, and Yinka didn’t take it lightly.
“When he replied me, it was a slap and a severe beating. I began to shout, ‘Cut! This isn’t a movie anymore.’ He laughed and said, ‘In your life, you won’t interfere in people’s fights again.’”
Lesson learned the hard way! 😅

Opebe said the experience taught him to never take sides in another person’s quarrel again.

80% of Nigerians don't know how to mind their business.

They refuse to mind their business thinking they're doing the right thing.

I came a cross the podcast on Tiktok and I must say The details of the story as written here didn't paint the whole hilarious story .
So according to him , there has been some long running beef back then between two top actors Baba suwe and Yinka quadri with Opebe naturally siding with the former who was not only his long time friend and colleague but also his oga, as being the head of the theatre group that Opebe was one of the leading actors in . So the time came that there was a movie that cast the three actors among others , and while on set one day to shoot a scene where the Yinka quadri had to play an aggressive role by beating the story narrator Opebe , he ( Yinka quadri) didn't hold back , beating the helpless guy for real even as the victim repeatedly shouted. " cut.! " The aggressor would then let it be known to him to never again openly take sides with one party when two people are having issues in the name of showing loyalty . What makes it even the more hilarious is that , according to the narrator , the Baba suwe his boss as well as friend was there and joined others to tease and laugh at him for the free beating he got due to his having his (baba suwe's) back during the time there was feud between the two top Yoruba movie actors . But the incident that day at the location helped ease strained relationship between the two movie Icons .

Nigerians always siding with the oppressors in the name of "mind your own business" until when they're the one oppressed then they start shouting for help.
Hypocrites.

Until bandits deal with Yoruba Christians and Muslims, they'll not remember what their forefathers did, to conquer their invading enemies.

Food for thought!
