Sometimes it's also about patriotism and love for your people, Nigerian doctors will never be paid on the same level like an American or British doctor, so if because of that all the doctors leave who is going to take care of the medical needs of 200 million Nigerians. The oyinbos you are running to their country, their doctors will never leave their fellow oyinbos in large numbers to die because of money, there are things that are of greater importance than money despite the importance of money. |

Jakarta:.....my brother the thing weak me, they will asay people pay too much taxes in the UK, but at least we see what the taxes are used for, fire services, Police services, Road repairs, free education etc, the last time I checked the school fees for Baze University in Abuja run into millions, to set up a good solar system is millions, and if you don't live in a secure estate with armed security guards then you sleep with one eye close or try doing tourism in the outskirts of Zamfara or Kogi/Kwara axis then I suppose you have nine lives. |

kennethesan:Hospital work is busy work. Even in the UK. Even as a GP, your workload would be as busy as Nigerian one. You not only have to see patients, you have to even full out forms and documentations for each patient. And you can be at work till late Don't even get me to talk about emergency room and even normal hospital work. Many UK doctors flee to Australia because better work life balance . |

[quote author=goslowgoslow post=137172174]Who says? Go and check the rate of kidnapping in the UK. [/quote...I have checked and Google says kidnapping is not common in the UK, I have lived in the UK for over thirty years and never heard of mass kidnapping, or highway robbery, what is common in the UK is phone snatching, burglary in opulent areas and high end car theft, however, if you are insured you will get a replacement car immediately. |

nairalanda1:Dey deceive yourself You think if they were reckless and irresponsible They would be so organized to be able to pay their doctors like that? Why do you guys like defending rubbish here ? For how long? Right now almost every worker is underpaid whether private or public sector due to the twin effect of devaluation and subsidy removal policy compared to other parts of the world . And on top of that they still want this same people to pay the tax and prices for goods and services that developed country pay, using devalued , purchasing power destroyed naira. |

nairalanda1:If they were doing this from a genuine heart People would buy into it wholeheartedly, knowing that govt like (Uncle Sam in United States) got their back. They would pay the taxes. And within a short time Nigeria will turnaround, transform , flourish prosper, peace will return, they would now be able to drive again peacefully at night or be able to enter the bush peacefully to explore. But what we have are very unrepentant hardened recalcitrant dubious characters. |

VeeVeeMyLuv:The problem with your view is that it essentially states that people should not hold their government to account and also that things can be gotten for free. You think the UK government is somehow free of evil? It is the way it is because people did the hard work of holding their government to account. Here in Nigeria we don't do that. |

VeeVeeMyLuv:In other words you are assuming that we can provide the same kind of service that the UK provides for 275 billion pounds in Nigeria where our health budget is a measly 1-2 billion pounds and our budget is half of what the UK spends on policing You are also wrong to assume I am excusing or supporting bad government. My beef with apc has been their failure to even diversify the economy and to fight corruption. So please disabuse yourself of the idea that I am supporting apc. It is even an indictment of apc that our country is not prosperous and powerful under their rule. But to return to the topic, if we want UK level , we should pay at UK level or vote government that would make our economy dependent on innovation and industrialization or both. And we should fight corruption as well. Only fogithing corruption does not make our health care budget sufficient. |

nairalanda1:Okay so what do you want Nigerians to do? Shebi they say God bless Nigeria with abundant human and natural resources? So why is it in this state? Why are they not harnessing these? They don't need to do much , just a little sincere effort and the seed will blossom into a tree just like the magic OBJ did with telecoms sector. But do we have? They lack sincerity! See how they mess up ABP in Agric sector under PMB. A good program fa. It wasn't this bad under GEJ that they lampooned and lambasted so much. Though I have to admit that insecurity was just as bad and so pronounced under his regime, those enemy of state terrorist were hitting major capital cities of states even federal capital with bombs! Why we can't follow China example is beyond me. If I tell you they were once worse than us would you believe? Now that money they borrowed in the past is now chicken change to them They are now lending to many nations (such as Nigeria)! See their govt policy deliberately to developed the human capacity of the people. |

grandstar: Thats not quite true though. Even junior doctors earn between 3 to 4k pounds per month. Nurses that work private and not under NHS earn 22 pounds per hour and work 12 hours a day for 4 days a week. Believe it or not, the doctor is actually right. In 5 months, I earned my 11 years gratuity payment. I'm not even a doctor. I am talking about what I had left after rent, bills, tax. Yes, things may be quite expensive in london, same way it is lagos, in New York. Those are highly populated cities. Rent will be high. Folks fail to realize though that the UK is 4 countries in 1. England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Expenses vary in these countries. Rent for a 1 bedroom flat in London will get you a 3 bedroom flat in many other parts with council tax and bills. |
