Obasanjo has his faults... But he one of Nigeria's best in terms of leadership. He understands the Nigerian political terrain and challenges. El rufia seems not to have still fully matured till date. Could be stunted growth... literally and figuratively! |

Those days when men at 40 were made ministers unlike what we have now |

Lamba from Baba again. Baba weh deh look for someone who is weak and can easily be controlled and Yaradua was a perfect fit for that hence he settled for him. Baba no say El-rufai can't be controlled like that, reason why he did not back him. |
| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by Hezzyluv: 9:42pm On Oct 24, 2025 |
It has nothing to do with mature or Immature of El-rufai. Obasanjo had already known who is. Tinubu also know the reason why he didn't pick him as his chief of staff. ![]() |

badoh:Baba did not control Yar'adua too. He just wanted an honest and sincere Man and he got it in the brother of his late best friend the elder Yar'adua If Obasanjo did,he would have stopped Yar'adua from cancelling the sale of the refineries which Obasanjo did when he was about leaving |

Who won't reject El Rufai? |
| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by AMINDA: 10:13pm On Oct 24, 2025 |
If at 43, Elrufai was already a minister and DG BPE before that and in the conversations as a prospective president, then he hasn't done bad for himself. Obasanjo alluding to the need for Elrufai to "mature" may simply be referring to Elrufai's penchant for being vocal and blunt to the letter "T". An attribute that is a crime in today's murky world of Nigerian politics. Whatever reason anyone may cite to pass up on Elrufai, it cannot be for lack of competence nor the ability to deliver. His public service records remain unbeatable. |
| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by AMINDA: 10:17pm On Oct 24, 2025 |
badoh:Apt. He passed up on Elrufai after losing out on 3rd term agenda and imposed a sick Yaradua and a pliable Jonathan on Nigerians to rule by proxy. Only to resort to letter writing when Jonathan dared to be his own man. Despite all his excesses, Obasanjo remains the most detribalized Nigerian till date and assembled a cabinet that no single President has matched till date. In hindsight, his quest for third term may not have been bad afterall but we will never know. |

So Chidoka agreed that El Rufai was not mature after his ethnic and religious bigotry in Kaduna |
| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by mohbadliveson: 10:21pm On Oct 24, 2025 |
Read well. Chidoka was 34 when El Rufai recommended him AMINDA: |
| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by AMINDA: 10:25pm On Oct 24, 2025 |
mohbadliveson:Ditto. You're only partially correct yourself. Chidoka was 34 and Elrufai was 43 but Chidoka was the one who recommended Elrufai to Obasanjo. Not vice versa. |
| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by AMINDA: 10:30pm On Oct 24, 2025 |
mohbadliveson:Ethnic and religious bigotry that he didn't exhibit in private practice, nor as DG BPE or Minister of FCT. How come he suddenly became an Ethnic and religious bigot as governor of Kaduna? Go check the history, Kaduna has always been a volatile state dating back to the 80's. Same as Plateau. Elrufai stabilised the state but he had to do so with an iron grip. Something previous governors shied away from doing due to political correctness. He's hated for it but it's a price he's happy to pay. |

Niwdog:The ones made at 40 those days are still the same people preventing the younger people from being made ministers cos they do not want to leave the stage |

Hezzyluv:After publicly begging him on stage to work with him. A costly mistake that only time will prove it to be, and time is a gentleman. Obasanjo did work with him though, first as DG BPE and then as Minister of the FCT. 20 years later, Elrufai remains in the conversation as the best FCT Minister Nigeria has ever had. Say what you will, you can't fault his competence. |

| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by mohbadliveson: 11:34pm On Oct 24, 2025 |
Chidoka, who was the keynote speaker at the event, recalled how El-Rufai recommended him to Obasanjo at the age of 34, a move that brought him closer to the presidency and eventually led to his appointment as the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). You must be a dvllard. This is simple English. El Rufai first recommended Chidoka to ObJ. Then Chidoka then recommended El Rufai to Obj as successor. One good turn stuff AMINDA: |

AMINDA:same man who bragged about killing of Christians in southern Kaduna n when he got heavy backlash fumbled again by saying he has paid bandits to stop killing people. U want us to believe there's Christian genocide in Nigeria but u don't want us to believe el rufai who is now obi ally is part of it? |
| Re: I Rejected El-rufai As My Successor – Obasanjo by AMINDA: 12:07am On Oct 25, 2025 |
BATified2023:Post the link where he bragged about killing christians. If he did, why is he still walking free? He currently has no immunity and he's still in the country. Is the Nigerian state an accomplice to this or is he more powerful than those he supposedly killed? Last time I checked, it was Tinubu, Daniel Bwala, Reno Omokri, FFK, Bishop Kukah who referred to claims of genocide as "lies from the pit of hell". We only called out the hypocrisy and their double-speak because they spent the greater part of Jonathan's (Tinubu) and Buhari’s government travelling the world and selling the narrative of a genocide. Reno even shamelessly admitted during the now bursted Mike Arnold press conference that he lied because he was in opposition to Buhari. Those are your heroes today. |

mohbadliveson:Social media is indeed a leveller. Well, thanks for the heads-up that Osita Chidoka came into limelight after an introduction from Elrufai to Obasanjo. This is an information that I have never come across in the public space. |

Obasanjo explained that he brushed aside the recommendation of El-Rufai as his successor because he felt his former minister needed to mature. Elrufai na well known rebel😅🤣😂 Imagine Wike as president and Elrufai as VP ![]() |

Common sense, the absence of vision and maturity is problematic these days. We always have to measure by works and pedigree. Niwdog: |

He recommended giving power to a northerner that he didn't know much about, it took him several years later to finally realize the personality of the person he recommended . This is how these people keep handing over power to northerners, they will later blame other ethnic groups when the person they recommended start putting pepper in their eyes. Atiku that they kept clamouring for would have also been a great destruction to them if he had won, but thank God he never won. Nigeria needs a brand new political class, not this existing one, irrespective of political parties ![]() |

AMINDA:You made the right point. This is the reason I don't engage in tribalism discussions. Our elites are one irrespective of tribes and religion. They only sell the narratives that suit them at that time to us to keep us busy or whip up our sympathy. The major tribes are complete in the cycle of rub my back and I rub yours. Many of their deep alliances are scanty in public spaces and those goes along way in their strategizing. It is well with Nigeria |
