Dear All, thanks for your inputs. The fix I think that worked for me is changing the power steering pump because the old one kept shifting and grinding the belts. I also did some threading and welding of the seat of the power steering pump. Though I am still watching it, the belt has not cut for two weeks now. I also tactically reduced the belt picking to 5 lines as seen in the car I got the new power steering pump from. I learnt this issue usually occurs when a wrong AC compressor is installed in the 06 civic. So if you are experiencing this issue, it's most likely from the AC compressor or power steering pump. Lastly check all the pulley rubbers to be sure engine oil is not leaking from any one onto the pulley system. AbelAbdul: |

Seems this belt cutting issue is more common with Honda cars generally - mine was an accord 2008 I almost entered depression from the issue but thankfully, I was able to find a way around it |

rapheal5:You probably bought an accidented car or one that already has issues. Your issue is very rare when it comes to the corolla. I have used one before myself and I never experienced what you're saying. |

esemes256:The fact that you haven't experienced such doesn't mean it doesn't happen to toyota vehicles. Just yesterday a mechanic called for camry 2005 adjuster and bolt 🔩.... |

rapheal5:Well I mentioned up there that the issue is very rare. I guess what happened is as a result of car dealers fixing accidented cars with Chinese parts instead of OEM parts. Problems will definitely arise. If you take that factor out, corollas (2005 - 2008) are the most problem free cars out there. |

rapheal5:What was the mileage of the corolla? I believe you are referring to the timing belt tensioner. It can be fixed by changing it. I am not sure if there are good mechanics in Nigeria that know how to fix it but if your corolla already has the issue fixed (which is true for most toks corolla), you will not have the issue. |

Goodevening Everyone, I have been following this thread base on my recent experience of timing belt on Honda Civic. It is important say this that am an Honda fan, I Love their Honda cars, except for their few automobiles like the old Pilots SUV and the Ridgeline Picksup which I think they are not edge to edge with their other competitors. I just bought a Toks Standard Honda Civic and just about after like 10days of driving the car, the timing belt snaps suddenly, a called a kazeem, he came and replaced the belt, moment, he started the car, the timing belt snaps immediately again. We repeated this process 3 different time simultaneously within a space of 2 days, it still keeps cutting few seconds after starting the engine. At this point the kazeem is getting frustrated, I was getting pained because of the costing of the timing belt. When the 2 Senior mechanics came to examine the situation, they suggested I changed the 2 Gork pulley teeth., and also the bought tokunbo timing belt. The kazeem guy, did the replacement, the he notice that the adjuster nut is not tight enough and the threading is weak and about to worn out. He called, a turner to drill the adjuster thread and, and relighting the adjuster bolt. After all these, he replaced the timing belt, and boom, everything seems perfect. He reved, the car multiple times, and the timing belt seems to be perfect eventhough am still observing the situation. All this processes took us 3 days, from Thursday to Saturday, Kazeem was already getting frustrated. I was also getting pained of the costing and order of materials from Oyingbo to Ikorodu. In the whole of this, what I learnt was the adjuster is a primary fulcrum in that process and the adjuster bolt must NOT be tight at all. If you tight the adjuster bolt or if it misaligned, it will cut the belt. If the adjuster positioning is aligned, with the other pulleys and it loosen, a bit for it to adjust and undulating. You are 100% good.. I decide to share my experience, inspite that, I love Honda Technology, it is just the technical know-how we suffer from, has a result of Bad Mechanics. |

I am currently facing the same issue in my 2006 honda civic. I am currently on the third belt. What's the recommended size nd how do I fix it |
| Re: How I Was Able To Stop "Belt Cutting" Wahala In My Honda Civic by chillex8(m): 2:51am On Oct 25, 2025 |
haykay2005:7PK2170 is the recommended belt size. You can squeeze in 6PK2160 - 6PK2165 though. Buy tokunbo belt or import OEM from US. China belt will snap before 1500km I'm assuming all pulleys have not been altered. |
| Re: How I Was Able To Stop "Belt Cutting" Wahala In My Honda Civic by haykay2005: 8:26am On Oct 27, 2025 |
chillex8:My mechanic will check it today. I honestly don’t know if the issue is with the pulley or the tensioner. Mine doesn’t cut completely, but it starts peeling off at the sides and becomes very thin. The part that peels partially begins to make noise. When I looked yesterday, I noticed the belt was sitting on the sharp edge of one of the pulleys instead of staying in the middle of that pulley. I’m not sure if that pulley is misaligned or if another one in the group is the problem. How can I tell if it’s the tensioner? |
| Re: How I Was Able To Stop "Belt Cutting" Wahala In My Honda Civic by chillex8(m): 3:17pm On Oct 27, 2025 |
haykay2005:If you can't tense/relax the tensioner,then it's bad. QED. |
| Re: How I Was Able To Stop "Belt Cutting" Wahala In My Honda Civic by haykay2005: 5:14pm On Oct 27, 2025 |
chillex8:That can be done with the mechanic wrench or spanner to pull it. It has to be relaxed. Before belt can go in and once you release, the belt become very tight |
| Re: How I Was Able To Stop "Belt Cutting" Wahala In My Honda Civic by chillex8(m): 7:21pm On Oct 27, 2025 |
haykay2005:IMO , tensioner is ok. Get a TOKS 7PK2170 or 6Pk2165 Say bye to belt issues . I'm assuming your pulleys are the right sizes. |

haykay2005:Pulley sizes This is the best alignment.
