An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its scheduled national convention slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Justice Ladiran Akintola gave the order on Monday while ruling on an ex parte motion brought before the court by Folahan Malomo Adelabi, who sued as the claimant/applicant in suit number I/1336/2025.

The defendants in the case include the PDP, its Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum (for himself and members of the party’s National Working Committee and National Executive Committee), the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (for himself and members of the National Convention Organising Committee), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his ruling, Justice Akintola granted all the interim orders sought by the claimant, restraining the defendants or their agents from truncating or frustrating the conduct of the party’s scheduled national convention. The court also directed the PDP leadership to adhere strictly to the guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities earlier released for the convention.

The court further ordered the party and its relevant committees to hold, conduct, and convene the elective national convention as planned in Ibadan, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. The judge also directed INEC to attend, monitor, and observe the conduct of the convention in line with the Electoral Act.

Justice Akintola stated that the claimant had established a case warranting urgent judicial intervention and commended the claimant’s demonstration of transparency by filing a motion on notice for interlocutory injunction alongside the ex parte application.

The matter has been adjourned till November 10, 2025, for the hearing of the motion on notice.

Sheriff stopped the National Convention and used Okon Abang of the FHC Abuja to stamp it. Wike used Justice Liman of the FHC Port Harcourt to proceed with the Convention. Sheriff appealed the PH Judgement and won, Wike went to the Supreme Court and won. It's happening now.......

Why are these lower court judges giving contradicting judgements? I may not even care about what happened to PDP but I thought S/C already said parties should resolve their issues internally.

That is how impunity starts because the FCT Man went to his darling Justice Omotosho to rule on an issue his Court is bereft of jurisdiction.

The State High Court or a Federal High Court?

It's a national party convention and not a state party affairs. The FHC should have been the appropriate court to be ordering INEC

Haba what's then the essence of the S/C ruling? And the annoying thing is the dangerous precedence this thing will set. PDP are just messing our courts and judges up because of their selfishness.

Judgements are now bought. Haba these judges should be called to order!!!
