Dogalmighty17:To answer your question 1 nd 2, the property belongs to a 3 star General who retired as a naval chief. Q2, upon retirement, a certain number of officers of different ranks and other staff are assigned to him until his death. What he does with the officers can only be answered by him alone. As a 3 star general, even in retirement, he remains a general and must be accorded the respect. The Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004) and established military traditions in Nigeria support this claim. |

Antoeni:What orders and from which superior!!!!!! In a civilized country the police go arrest that military personnel irrespective of whose order he is standing on...... We just like standing on the wrong side of things and taking sides unnecessarily on abnormal things. |

Dogalmighty17:Most of your questions were asked out of sheer ignorance, but that's fine. However, the questions are not devoid of sentiments. For information sake, only the Chief in Command can give order to counter the order given by a most senior officer. Even the vice president cannot try it unless sworn in to take the place of the C in C in a case of his absence. The naval officer was acting under a command, Wike should have contacted the one who gave him the order. He himself cannot order the soldier off that property. Only the one who gave the order in the 1st place, the Chief of staff, or the president can order him out of that property. Lastly, the loyalty of any soldiers lies with NOT the presidency, but to the service of his country, and the president himself who is the GCON. The Chief in Command role of this position cannot be delegated. Not even to the VP. The FCT minister like other ministers is just an office holder under the president's cabinet. He cannot give or counter a military order. |

bixton:Stop capping rubbish. All these una beer parlour claims Soldiers are subject to military law, only military authorities (through the Provost Marshal or superior officers) have the direct power to arrest and discipline them for offences, especially those committed in the line of duty. You even mentioned civilised countries like you have ever left Nigeria. The US Police Department whether state or federal cannot just arrest a soldier in active service without the cooperation of his commanding post. It can only happen if he is caught committing a a civilian crime off duty and without uniform even at that, his commanding post must be alerted immediately for their cooperation. These are contained in military law enforcement such as: U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) Oya make another claim. |

Dogalmighty17:it's not only military. Happens in civil and public services as well. There are privileges associated with retiring at a very senior level. There are retired public service board members that are entitled to medical treatment abroad for life. Former governors that served, even for just 4 years are entitled to police and DSS details for life. Retired very senior officers are entitled to junior officer details for life as well |

olatunjithomas:You are mostly correct, however, they can arrest even if a uniform is worn. And they dont need a cooperation before an arrest is made, especially if that soldier poses a threat to public safety.

SixSeven:I remember many years ago in one small town in a European country, while the soldiers are training driving their tanks, only one police man will be monitoring them to make sure there wasn't any reckless driving or over speeding . He would mount his motorcycle and go around the different 'formations' and route. The military guys behaved without questions |

bixton:Whether it is to safeguard land or a pair of slippers, the job is the job, and an order is an order. As long as that property belong to a former CNS, who is also a 3 star General, it is a legal duty bro. However, such duty ceases to be legal the day he dies. |
