Can someone enlighten us about the ongoing project by a telecom company. I heard it's by MTN.
They're installing optic fibre lines to all houses...

But I'm worried that it's under electricity lines in some areas.....

BTW, do they want to phase-out their masts??

If you’ve any of those cables around try to connect it’s perhaps the fastest and cheapest internet access in naija atm.

You can’t know more than the engineers installing them. If there are safety hazards, they would be the first to know.

Besides, Nigerians build houses anyhow so instead of passing the cables underground where they could be cut by those laying foundations everywhere; and instead of setting up new poles thereby overloading everywhere with cabling, it’s safe to use existing infrastructure and in this case, the already existing poles

It is well because nobody should come and tell us that if is not good thing, government won't allow them as if we dont know type of government we have.

It's in my estate at Ibadan since beginning of this year by January when I'll be fully around I'll connect too

Here in Badagry, MTN has finished their own! Airtel is ongoing; Glo doing theirs deep inside streets.

It's all good for Nigeria!

My question is ( when other telco now decide to install their own cables too, will they attach to existing infrastructure (poles) or they will mount their own fresh poles?)

Optic / fibre cables are basically meant to improve data transmission speed (Mbps).
It reduces lag in voice and image data transmission.

The best way is to pass it under water or underground. I believe MTN is passing it via electrical poles because that will be the cheapest process for them.

Telecoms infrastructure is very expensive.

Internet worldwide is still mainly cable dependent

It's called FTTH

Fiber to the House technology.
