Most multinationals have observed how most Nigerians and their leaders have been so careless and indifferent with rules and regulations so they too follow suit. |

ikorodureporta:FTTH (Fibre to Home) is basically for very high speed Data Services. Not to replace normal Phone calls. so i don't think they are phasing out masts But using your subscribe data package , you can still make Data Calls |

amazonguru001:It can take up to 64 devices. It consists of an ODU (Outdoor Unit) and an IDU (Indoor Unit). It costs 25k and bundled with a 50Mbps unlimited plan for 30days. After registration at the Airtel office, an installer is sent to install it at your house within 48hrs. After the first 30days, you can continue with the 25k for 50Mbps plan or you can opt in for the 45k for 100Mbps plan. ikorodureporta:There’s no electrical danger because fibre doesn’t conduct electricity. It reduces underground cable vandalisation |
| Re: Why Is MTN Installing Optic Fibre Lines Under Electricity Lines?? by IamAjiroba6: 7:47pm On Nov 14, 2025 |
This is FTTX from MTN. It's of 2 types. 1. Aerial (Which is the use of poles like this one) 2. Underground (Involves passing the fibre cable under the ground). Either way, it's for fast Internet connection. One of the reason it's installed close to electric poles is to prevent damage to the infrastructure. Electricity poles are not removed indiscriminately. So, that will give some level of protection to the Fibre poles as well since they are in the same space. |

ikorodureporta:I get you. MTN self suppose to run their cables underground but they opt for the cheaper root. Flying cables every where. If you get to some estate's in Lekki you won't see any cables they are all passed under ground. |
| Re: Why Is MTN Installing Optic Fibre Lines Under Electricity Lines?? by litaninja(m): 9:49pm On Nov 14, 2025 |
What is the question, issue or concern? Optic fibre cables carry data and not power. They are vastly different and cannot carry electricity. They are using existing infrastructure (power poles) to carry the cables with appropriate insulation / tension relief where it isn't feasible to run them underground. It is a common practice in different parts of the world. Fibre is typically faster and more reliable that wireless. This is FTTP / FTTP (Fibre to the Home or Fibre to the Premises), it is not a replacement for mobile internet so masts are not going anywhere. ikorodureporta: |

I was one of the people that objected this installation in my Estate in Idowu-Egba,Alimosho,Lagos State until I subscribed.Men!!the internet is super fast and cheap.Infact,it ended Dstv subscription in my home and powers about 8 phones,4 smart TVs and laptops with unlimited internet. The challenge however is the long spreads of fiber optic cables that’s bringing us back to the era of Nitel with numerous cables on poles and most times the cables don’t look tidy. |

Not my issue. I've never used 5G internet talk less of fibre optic. No, wait, I've used fibre optic while outside the country. It didn't seem faster than usual. |
