JESHAL007:I watched a BBC clip where the guest lamented that marriage rates have plunged because in the past 10 - 15 years, men have deliberately avoided getting married due to the divorce laws, which affect men more than women. The West really has a lot of work to do regarding raising its marriage and fertility rates. In East Asia, women would rather remain single for life. The main cause here is women's economic empowerment. Many academics and policymakers wouldn't want to accept it, but women's economic empowerment has meant men aren't as useful to women as they (men) were. This is not to say that women's economic empowerment is bad, but this is a major side effect. Africa, certain parts of Asia and the Middle east are the last bastions of decent masculinity and patriarchy. Sadly, the simping culture is creeping up on our young men. I've seen university boys sacrifice their tuition fees for birthdays of women, do other stupid things as vagina worshippers etc. One of the reasons why it hasn't gain much strong footing here is that men, on a general aren't earning much (weak economy), so women on average (who earn much lower than their men who also earn poorly) have to show traits of submission.This is because women in those places don't have the same economic empowerment as men, and some of their cultural practices are so enshrined in their countries/communities. It has been from the time we settled into societies till today. The only difference is that the bar in standards of performance kept going high for men, with women's own (bar of performance) set low or almost nonexistent.
