Franc Utoo, a former Special Assistant to a past Governor of Benue State, has made a startling allegation regarding one of the state’s deadliest attacks. According to him, an active-duty Nigerian Army officer was discovered among the Fulani militants who carried out the massacre in Yelwata, Benue State.

The incident in question is the June 2025 attack in Yelwata, where more than 200 residents were killed by suspected Fulani militias. Speaking in an interview, Utoo claimed that while the attackers were retreating, some were neutralized, and one of the bodies recovered was that of a serving soldier. He said the soldier was found with his military identification card still in his pocket.

Utoo described this discovery as a clear sign of “state collusion” and “complicity,” insisting that such involvement points to a deliberate and coordinated agenda against the people of Benue.

The former governor under whom Utoo served is believed to be Samuel Ortom, known for repeatedly warning about Fulani herdsmen attacks and accusing them of working with other extremist groups. The current governor, Hyacinth Alia, has also condemned the violence but maintains that the perpetrators are primarily foreign fighters — possibly from Mali — rather than local Nigerian Fulani.

Utoo’s claims have since gone viral on social media, circulating widely on Instagram, Facebook, and across various news platforms as people continue to express concern over the worsening insecurity in Benue State.

Does the neutralized army officer have a phone. If the Government gets willing to fight the terrorists, they know what to do. But unfortunately, they are playing politics with human lives. What goes around comes around and they should know that he who starts the fight is not always the ultimate winner as the day of reconning is fast approaching . No blood is lost. The blood will surely cry and that carries a heavy penalty.
