Delta APC lauds Reno Omokri’s nomination as ambassador-designate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination of Mr. Reno Omokri as ambassador-designate, describing the development as a noteworthy achievement for both Omokri and the state.
In a congratulatory message issued by the state Chairman, Omeni Sobotie, the party said the nomination reflects the President’s willingness to reward competence, experience and national service.

Sobotie noted that Omokri has, over the years, demonstrated intellectual rigour, global exposure and a strong commitment to national issues—qualities he said would serve Nigeria well in the diplomatic space.

The party highlighted Omokri’s diverse professional footprint spanning public policy, advocacy, media engagement and humanitarian initiatives, stating that these experiences have positioned him to represent Nigeria with distinction on the international stage. It added that the nomination is another indication of the increasing visibility of Deltans in national and global spheres.

Sobotie praised President Tinubu for identifying Omokri as a technocrat capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s foreign relations, stressing that the appointment aligns with the President’s drive to promote inclusion and recognise talent across the country.

Expressing confidence in Omokri’s ability to deliver, the Delta APC urged him to sustain the values of hard work, humility and patriotism that have defined his career.

The party also called on members and residents of Delta State to celebrate the development and offer support as he prepares for the new role.

It’s reasonable for Nigerians to expect that diplomatic appointments be based on proven competence, maturity, judgment, and experience, not political proximity. In those cases, a more appropriate path is often to assign the person to a less sensitive role first, allow them to build a record of competence, and then elevate them based on merit rather than assumption.

On a broader point, Tinubu should avoid appointments that end up being reversed after years of poor performance, is a legitimate governance critique shared by many Nigerians who want efficiency, accountability, and merit-based public service.

Mrs Olakunrin died of gunshot wounds in July 2019 after her vehicle was attacked by armed men, suspected to be marauding Fulani bandits whose violent activities had reached a frightening level across the southwest states.


Those arrested suspects include Lawal Mazaje, 40, from Felele area of Kogi State; Adamu Adamu, 50, from Jada area of Adamawa State; Mohammed Usman, 26, from Illela area of Sokoto State and Auwal Abubakar, 25, from Shinkafi area of Zamfara State....

However, the leader of the team, identified only as Tambaya, and three others are yet to be found.

Tambaya has been declared wanted by the police and he is said to be capable of communicating in Hausa, Fulfude and Pidgin English.
