HustlaOfLagos:No but this isn’t how it works in reality. When stereotypes are allowed to grow they affect everyone in the community regardless of whether they are actually that thing or not. The way the average Nigerian is viewed directly impacts EVERY Nigerian regardless of whether they are ‘better’ or ‘worse’ than that average. That’s why people from certain communities still face huge prejudice even when they are very obviously extremely more intelligent, successful etc than the generality of people in the country whether black or white etc, while people from certain other groups are presumed to be smart just based on the community they belong to. So if you allow the narrative of the Average Nigerian being a riff-raff and a cheat to become entrenched and say nothing because it doesn’t apply to you, you’ll very likely still feel the impact because e.g when you apply for a role and the people there have that impression about Nigerians as a whole. It’s not everything in life that you will have the opportunity to show that you’re different before being judged. |

HustlaOfLagos:I worked as a freelance writer many years ago. I know as a matter of ‘fact’ that the vast majority of clients seeking people to help them write assignments were not Nigerians. Most were American, UK etc. The BBC report shows that and if you check the websites of the essay writing companies as well it’ll be very obvious who their target market is. There’s no shred of evidence that it is more prevalent among Nigerians. What I’m seeing is just selection bias. You know many Nigerians so naturally you know many doing that. How many people from any other country have you gotten to know how they get their assignments done? Answer is definitely zero or a much lower number than the Nigerians you know. It’s not hiding from the ‘truth’ to challenge unfounded stereotypes. The plural of anecdote is anecdotes, not evidence. |

Goodenoch:You know the funny thing ![]() We are saying the same thing My angle is, part of making sure that our collective reputation dont get soiled IS calling riff raffs out in our midst AT EVERY GIVEN TURN That way, the wider community knows that whoever did the "crime" did it on his own, and it is NOT a community sanctioned behaviour If Muslims were more vocal about the wave of terrorism their bad faith actors were doing, they probably wont be in the reputational mess they are in In Mexico, the cartel lifestyle is glorified and voices calling it out is not loud enough (though I understand this because cartels can kill) If we keep keeping mute because "e no concern me" When e burst, everyone go hear am I remenber having a discussion with a black Brit and he hilariously told me that part of the reason why IT SEEMS that the white community has less issues IS because..... THEY ARE SNITCHES they will cast their papa, mama, kid, anybody That's what he believes and in a way, I have seen this manifest This is not to say awon fun fun are saints, but its something we can learn from them When Hushpuppi was still out for example And he was doing his insta live, go look at the comment section and see the praises and peolle saying they wanna be like him, and let him bless them If you are a non Nigerian, and you stumble on this, wont it form your views in a way about Nigerians? there is a reason a Chinese person will shout Allah akhbar and people will chuckle, but when a bearded Arab/South Asian do SAME, people will scamper |

RodgersAkpafu:No, you and I are not saying the same thing. You labeled people who came in as care workers from Nigeria and people who 'ran masters package sha' (whatever that means), as riff-raff. Now you're equating that with cartels and terrorism? Come on man. The whole snitching thing is more selection bias with no grounding in fact and I cannot engage that because it'll boil down to an anecdote vs anecdote situation which can never be resolved. I mean this is the country of erstwhile Prince Andrew, lol. |

Goodenoch:As Andrew got busted, didn't. they strip the werey? Compare it with the disgraceful thing around Akpabio Vs Natasha Or Yerima As for paragraph 1, the "ran masters package" and the "buying of care cos" were the two main channels through which riff raffs crept in You know it I know it That was the context to which that was used, but again, what was written vs how it was perceived/made the reader feel Go back to that post again, did I insinuate that EVERY person who came in via care visa or studied for a masters is a riff raff ? No BTW , in my books , there is a huge difference between those who actually came to study (those who arrived to actually study for their masters) and those who "ran the masters package" (using agent to get a masters to study anything/anywhere as a ticket to just leave again, we know these things Like hustla said, we just saving face, we know Well sha, we don overexplore this topic everybody go dey okay |

Goodenoch:Our people also say "Until the Lion learns to write, every story will glorify the hunter" AriseTV should also arise and tell stories of Westerners outsourcing their work to Nigerians and then they will also be branded same. At least when locals saw that foreigners were taking their jobs, they also put it out there. We can only speak for ourselves and what we have observed in interactions with other Nigerians, from the workplace to classrooms etc. and while there are lots of hardworking ones, there are quite a lot of "riff raffs" who are unsurprisingly the loudest. For example, instead of creating tik tok videos about bypassing systems, COS scams etc, further exacerbating our already negative stereotype, our creators can instead invite people who are successful to talk about their journey abroad and give some insight like Teju Babyface is doing for the US community. Little drops of water yunno ![]() |

HustlaOfLagos:There were posts and rants on NL here about ppl who did assignments , thesis for students in UK. One outsourcer was even complaining that his first client wanted a cut from the new recruit she brought for him. It was obvious, when I saw posts here about students doing more than 40hrs I knew it wasn't possible if they actually did their study themselves. |

oluwaleokey:This at the bolded. Reminds me of Martin Niemöller's quote; First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me |

RodgersAkpafu:Watched the video and very interesting conversation. The issue is just skin colour but masquerading as ethnic nationalism. The remigration thing is just a joke 😂 that can never happen cos just like everywhere else in the world immigration is a thing cos take South Africa as an example imagine the blacks there begin to talk about remigration for the Afrikaans and so on even baba Trump Dey complain about white genocide in South Africa so let all these white nationalists go relax! Dem go Dey alright las las |

E no concern us, na north dem de, Boko haram don dey concern everybody small small. The importance of proactive intervention and solidarity cannot be overemphasized. |

jedisco:The problem is that some of our folks just want to force themselves to be accepted because we are naturally emotional and not transactional like westerners. The other day I saw a content creator intelligently analysing the benefits of having a passport from a western nation and how it opens us so many trans border business opportunities telling folks that’s how they should be thinking. If people can have this shift in their mindset then you don’t bloody care what the natives think or how they see you. Having that second passport is for your own personal ambitions and goals and not to become an ethno national or whatever is called. The people who sold you the passport are simply doing business with you and their expectations is that you think that way too. |

lavida001:Is this supposed to be a threat? The stuff you spew. Let me ask - exposed on what? Exposed that when the UK badly needed skilled labour I offered my services? Exposed that I gave over half a decade of my life in service of the British populace? Exposed that I was a significant net contributor by a very wide margin throughout my stay? Exposed that I decided to invest in Britain rather that take that to competing nations? Exposed that I continued the Lords work elsewhere? Exposed on what exactly? Whether it's by nature or nurture, the more you type, the more it becomes obvious that we do not think alike. I can only thank God for wiring my brain differently from yours. Can't imagine what it feels like to see the world through your lens. I'm sure if I came here calling myself 'third worlder', chorusing how something is wrong with the black man or narrating how I lower my gaze when being spoken to, you'd have called me a visionary. |
