Here are the statistical data and a referenced table showing which region in Nigeria is most peaceful based on reported crime incidence from the Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey (CESPS) 2024 by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) — the most recent comprehensive national crime data available: 📊 Crime Incidence by Geopolitical Zone — CESPS 2024 (May 2023–April 2024) Geopolitical Zone Estimated Total Crime Incidents (Households) South-East (SE) ≈ 6,176,031 — lowest in Nigeria South-West (SW) ≈ 6,900,000 South-South (SS) ≈ 7,700,000 North-East (NE) ≈ 7,900,000 North-Central (NC) ≈ 8,800,000 North-West (NW) ≈ 14,400,000 — highest in Nigeria Sources: National Bureau of Statistics’ CESPS 2024 data reporting crime incidents by zone. 📌 Key Points from the Statistics ✅ South-East recorded the lowest number of crime incidents among all six regions — about 6.2 million cases, making it the most peaceful region in Nigeria by this metric. ✅ By contrast, the North-West recorded the highest crime incidents at around 14.4 million, indicating the least peaceful region by incidence count. ✅ These figures represent reported household crime experiences, which include incidents like robbery, theft, and other criminal acts covered by the survey. 📌 Important Notes on Interpretation These statistics measure total crime incidents, not crime rates per capita. Because each region has different population sizes, per-capita rates can shift the ranking if adjusted for population. Other analyses (e.g., violence fatalities per 100,000 population from NigeriaWatch) sometimes identify most peaceful states differently based on death rates rather than incident counts — for example, Gombe and Cross River report among the lowest fatalities per 100 k in some analyses. 📊 Summary ✅ Most peaceful region (by reported crime incidence): South-East geopolitical zone (≈ 6.2 million incidents) — lowest overall crime count in Nigeria. ❗ Other peace/security indices (e.g., fatalities or kidnapping numbers) may give different state-level peace rankings, but the South-East consistently shows lower crime incident totals in the latest NBS household survey. |

Logically based on my own personal observations South South South West South East North Central North West North East If you use the rate of crime and population, that should be the outcome |

To support the claim that the South East is a low-crime region relative to the rest of Nigeria, we can cite the most recent findings from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey (CESPS) released in late 2024 and analyzed through early 2025. The 2024/2025 CESPS Report The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey (CESPS), unveiled by the Presidency and based on NBS data, identifies the South East as having the lowest incidence of household crimes among Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Key Comparative Data (Total Incidents) According to the report, the total number of crime incidents recorded across the regions highlights a significant gap between the North West and the South East: | Geopolitical Zone | Reported Crime Incidents | |---|---| | South East | 6.2 Million (Lowest) | | South West | 6.9 Million | | South-South | 7.7 Million | | North East | 7.9 Million | | North Central | 8.8 Million | | North West | 14.4 Million (Highest) | Supporting Insights from Secondary Sources * The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED): Data analyzed in 2024 shows that the South East saw a 16% reduction in insecurity-related incidents—the highest reduction rate in the country. * SBM Intelligence: Reports from 2024/2025 indicate that while the South East still grapples with localized unrest (such as "unknown gunmen" activities), it consistently records the lowest number of kidnap-related deaths compared to the North East and North West. * Localized Improvements: Specific states like Anambra and Enugu have been cited in recent surveys as being among the safest urban centers due to the "Security Trust Fund" initiatives and the decentralization of community-based vigilante groups. Important Context: While the South East has the lowest volume of reported household crimes, analysts note that "high-profile" security challenges (like separatist agitations) often dominate news headlines, which can create a perception of high crime that is not supported by the actual statistical volume of daily household offenses. |

ariesbull:I had already answered you in the other thread that you first posted this AI slop. Let's break it down for you and your gullible audience. With just 22 million residents, SE recorded 6.2 million crimes. Per capita, that brings it down to a crime rate of 1 in 3 people in the SE will be victims of a crime, thus having crime rate at 30%. Now compare with the NE that has more than twice the population of the SE at 50million but with recorded crimes at 8million which is just 25% more than what the SE recorded at 6.2 million. Per capita, this brings crime rates in the NE to just 1 in 6 people being prone to be victims of crime which stands at 15% rate. With this figure, SE recorded 100% crime when compared in per capita terms at 30% to that of NE with just 15%. Note that NE is facing a full blown dragged out insurgency that has been ongoing since 2009 which to a larger extent is why the crime rate has exploded. Now let's assume that 90% of the recorded crimes in the once peaceful NE are attributed to insurgency , you will then see that crime in same NE is far less than your so-called peaceful SE. |

DomPerignon:Where did you get that 22 million resident |
| Re: Most Peaceful Region In Nigeria by DomPerignon: 11:04am On Dec 21, 2025 |
ariesbull:I know you didn't even read your AI prompted slop to know that in your copypasta , your AI put SE resident population at 22 million and NE at 50million. So a population more than twice the SE and one facing a dragged on insurgency only recorded 25% more crime recorded than your SE. And if you understand per capita, you will see that your SE with its relatively lower population that is less than half of the NE has a per capita crime rate at 1 in 3 or 30% of the population being more prone to being victims of a violent crime compared to NE at just 1 in 6 or 15% of the population and this is the NE which has several local govts under the control or facing daily assaults by two major terrorist organizations. Now go back to your ret@rded AI and ask it to do a comparative analysis of crime rates using per capita. I have been telling you guys here who have one tab permanently open on your dumbed down AI machine that AI is only good in the hands of who wields it. They are all after all still in the training and development stage and your assigned machine only works on your intellect level aka garbage in, garbage out. |

DomPerignon:Stats is done based on percentage not population ... If a region has 10 million and has 5% crime rate and another region has 50 million and has 2% crime rate The later has a higher crime based on percentage not demographics or population Get it |

ariesbull:Spewing trash as usual. If it was wealth generation per region , you will embrace GNP as a yardstick . New Orleans is not the largest city by any stretch in the US and Chicago has the highest reported murder cases but if you check the FBI crime stats , you will see New Orleans being rated as the murder capital of the US because based per capita, you are most likely to get murdered in New Orleans than you would in Chicago. People commit crimes so population is important when comparing crime rates per state/region. With less than half of the population of the NE, your SE recorded just less than 25% of reported crime in same NE. If we adjust for population using per capita,we saw that 1 in 3 people in the SE will be victims of a violent crime compared to 1 in 6 in the Boko ravaged NE. Let's look at it using economic indices like GDP and GNP. The US has the largest economy with China, Japan, Germany and India following behind. This is from GDP. But in terms of GNP, tiny Luxembourg and Qatar are adjudged the richest country per capita due to low population. Now replace GDP with total crime recorded and then divide it by the total population and you will see your SE having the highest per capita Gross Net Crime to be the highest with SE having twice the crime rate at 30% than that of NE at 15%. Hence, SE has a comparative Gross Net Crime Rate at 100% or double that of the NE. If you adjust for population, SE at 22 million residents, NE population of 50million , that is 22:50 approximately 2.27 multiplied by NE crime recorded at 8 million. SE would then have a projected crime record of more than 16million if it had the same population as the NE. Your stats proves that SE is indeed truly the crime capital of Nigeria. |

DomPerignon:They have always been having issue with statistics as if they don't do mathematics in secondary school. If the crime rate in Lagos state is for example 1,000 per year and Anambra state recorded just 400 per year, it means Anambra crime rate tripled Lagos crime rate based on population . If the crime rate in Bayelsa state is 300 per year and Imo state 400 per year, Bayelsa crime rate is higher than Imo state. It's simple mathematics Them arguing confidently on something they are not sure is just something ridiculous |

I am sure they did not. count the foreign Inter national crimes into it. The table will flip if they consider all the jail terms given to convicted drug traffickers as we always read about here on Nairaland. I cant count the number of drug related arrests from Dubai, South Africa, India, Malaysia and so on. |
