Tinubu Commissions 3,000 Electric Bicycles In Borno State by nairalandankrah(op): 3:11pm On Dec 21, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a fleet of 3000 electric bicycles, 500 tricycles, 100 cars and 20, 42-seater buses. procured by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, to ease transport challenges of people in the state.

Declaring the vehicles and other legacy projects executed by the governor commissioned, President Tinubu said the vehicles would benefit the citizens in mobility and convenience.

I congratulate the governor and people of Borno State for this transformation. Government is all about people, and professor Zulum is doing a very good job of caring for people.

The president highlighted the projects as tangible evidence of effective governance and a blueprint for holistic state development.

Op, the topic is misleading.

When I saw bicycles I was getting ready to come rant.

But, I think it's a good effort. Electric bicycles and the likes is the way to go for short commutes.

Re: Tinubu Commissions 3,000 Electric Bicycles In Borno State by givedemwotowoto:
The electric bikes may sound like a good initiative, but here are the problems:

- Those electric bikes need electricity to charge. Solar powered would’ve been better.
- Those batteries probably cost more than the bikes
- Those batteries may pack up in 2 years or less, and recipients can’t afford to replace them.
- Knowing what we know about Nigeria, it’s possible the “government” cost of each is multiple times what quality brands should cost.
- Finally, I doubt it will get to the intended recipients. This may eventually be given to the children of government officials…… According to Governor Amuneke.

Oga Zulum, you are learned. Spend the money on proper transport Infrastructure, the kind that will benefit the highest number of people.

Even if you cannot realise total state wide coverage in your tenure go the distance you can with rail lines linking the local governments and trams in the city centres.

How many people will 3,000 bikes serve and for how long. 4 years and they are all scrap. Do something that is enduring, long term, sustainable and a better legacy.

We blacks are not just blessed with the virtues of horizontal relationships. We find it extremely difficult to do communal things. It must have an individual's name on it for it to work.
