Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by ATTAHDYE(m): 9:42am On Dec 25, 2025
1. POF = tuition for first year + 22,895 + 3,000 (others)

2. Yes you can pay tuition fee from your account

3. Yes, you can use other accounts for your POF, so long as it is from a sponsor that is preferablely an immediate family member

All the best

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by JMG12: 5:48pm On Dec 26, 2025
POF = total tuition fee for the duration of your program + living expenses for the duration of your program + miscellaneous (3,000 - 5,000 CAD).
You can't pay the tuition fee from your account, as there is a restriction on the Nigerian account. You can contact allianceprime on Instagram; they can assist with your payment. I use them always.
Yes, you can use a different account ensure you have the required funds reserved in your account.

It will be challenging to gain admission to the most in-demand MSC health programs with your undergraduate degree. It is worth noting that you can do another one-year program to get a 3-year PGWP.

2-year PGWP-eligible program = 3-year PGWP
1-year PGWP-eligible program+ 1 year PGWP-eligible program = 3 year PGWP
EmmanuelCena:
Thanks a lot for the feedback Chief

However, I am bothered by the Length of study.
Will 8 months guarantee pgwp?

I am looking towards a course that will guarantee about 3 years of pgwp to aid PR application.

I will be glad for suggestions.
Thanks

Update after receiving my study permit approval (check my post history for approval testimony)

I arrived 27th December at Toronto Pearson Airport with my TRV to collect my study permit document at CBSA Checkpoint

Documents CBSA asked me to show them:

+ Letter Of Introduction
+ Letter of Acceptance from my college
+ PAL letter used in getting the study permit approval
+ Full Tuition payment of first semester receipt & deposit receipt from offer
+ Enrolment schedule of class for my Winter intake

Questions I was asked by CBSA after giving them the documents they requested above:

CBSA: You only paid first semester?
Me: Yes my college only allows us to per for a full semester at a given time
CBSA: Okay. Have you been refused study permit before to Canada?
Me: Yes I was the first time
CBSA: Why were you refused?
Me: I didn't properly show the source of funds for my financial documents
CBSA: Who is supporting your studies in Canada?
Me: My sister is my sponsor
CBSA: Where does your sister live?
Me: The US
CBSA: How long has she been there and what's her status?
Me: She has been there since X year and she is a green card holder
CBSA: What's her occupation and how much did she give you for your studies in Canada?
Me: She is X occupation and she gave me 45 million naira for tuition and living expenses
CBSA: How much is that in CAD
Me: About 40,000 CAD at the time of my application
CBSA: Have you been to Canada before?
Me: No this is my first time
CBSA: Do you have any family members in Canada
Me: No I don't have any family members in Canada
CBSA: Have you travelled to other countries for long term stay before?
Me: Yes I studied in Cyprus
CBSA: What did you study there?
Me: Medicine
CBSA: That's good. Why did you decide to pursue Biotechnology in Canada then?
Me: I decided I want to go into clinical diagnostics and Pharma in Nigeria after completing my studies in Canada
CBSA: Okay. This passport has a lot of pages is this the new Nigerian passport?
Me: Yes the new ones valid for 10 years have many pages than the old ones they used to issue
CBSA: Okay wait here for a moment
CBSA: Here is your study permit read the conditions and confirm your name and birth date. Check your permit expiry date. If you need to extended your study permit do so two months in advance before expiry. Let me know if you have any questions.
Me: Okay I have read it and all is accurate and I don't have questions.
CBSA: Alright let me stamp your passport and you can be on your way

This is the most grilling experience I have had for a visa haha. Funny thing is the two Asian students in front of me they didn't ask any of them any questions and they just handed them their study permit after seeing their acceptance letter pal and intro letter only.

Hope this can guide anyone that is approved for study on what to bring and questions CBSA may ask you. Good luck.

Quite an impressive memory, good thing you got your study permit and thank you for all the information you put out here, that will help and I believe most people should know this. I don’t think you were singled out because you were African just to douse the tension for others. I have seen other nationals being grilled like hell, I have even seen the situation of non admittance for a student from North America while I and my family were asked absolutely nothing, a lady just came to the queue collected our LOI and Passports, asked us to sit down and called us like 30mins later to pick up our permits. Most important thing is to be composed else you will end up like an Asian guy that didn’t know what Province his City is at.

Hello everyone,

Paying my respects to this group where my journey began, starting here in 2016, following the thread until I obtained my student visa(DIY) in 2019 to MUN. I made many friends here and met them in person in Canada.

Coming back to this group as a Citizen brings memories and nostalgic feelings..

Thank you, Nairaland, for the wonderful Journey... The support from those in the 2016-2019 set... some mainstays will still be here, and some may not.

@austacus , @Ibbond

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by Crane1: 10:24am On Dec 31, 2025
Can anyone help me understand the reason for these two denail.

First Attempt

1. Paid 15,000 out of 26,500 tuition fee
2. Mother is the sponsor, with her personal account where she has lump sum
3. GIC fully funded
Outcome: VISA was denied, reason being that success of fund is not reliable.

Second Attempt with decision made 29th of December.

1. Full 26,500 paid, later discovered the school offer a new 7000+ scholarship
2. GIC still fully funded
3. To address fund issues, mum gave gift of land, with deed of land and Affidavit, land sold, and money paid in different installments. All this was submitted with bank details showing transactions trails, still outcome

VISA denied

What is the problem, should the door be closed to CANADA?

Any advice?

Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by JMG12: 2:04pm On Dec 31, 2025
The VO was right your application lacks a source of funds; the only source you showed was the land sold.
1. How did you or your sponsor earn the 26,500 CAD for the full tuition you paid?
2. How did you or your sponsor earn the money you invested in GIC? Based on what you shared, there is no adequate source (you or your sponsor's earnings) of funds for you or your sponsor. Try to address this if you have not done it in your previous application.
All the best.

...so for exmple, what does your mum do for a living, is she working?? if yes, u need to show a refrence letter from her work place, payslips, id cards, basically documents to proof that she is gainfully employed or if she is a business woman then u will need to show her company registrations, tax slips, what kind of business is it?? stuff like that..The aim is to paint the perfect picture for the officer, so he understands the source of her funds. having a huge sum is not enough.

take a break from applying and do some more research on proof of funds.

All the best

Outcome: VISA was denied, reason being that success of fund is not reliable.

Second Attempt with decision made 29th of December.

1. Full 26,500 paid, later discovered the school offer a new 7000+ scholarship
2. GIC still fully funded
3. To address fund issues, mum gave gift of land, with deed of land and Affidavit, land sold, and money paid in different installments. All this was submitted with bank details showing transactions trails, still outcome

VISA denied

What is the problem, should the door be closed to CANADA?

Any advice?

What did you send your transcript to WES for?
omoluka:
It’s been over two weeks since I sent my transcripts to WES via express courier, but they still haven’t been received. I’ve been checking my WES account every day 🤔

I want to say a lot of things, but the main reason for the rejection is money.

The funds in your sponsor’s account must clearly align with what they earn.

Even if they gift you land, provide a deed of land, an affidavit, sell the land, and pay the money in different installments, you can still be refused if the source of funds does not add up.

As long as the sponsor’s business income does not reasonably explain how the money was accumulated, the application will be rejected.

For example, if your sponsor runs a business that earns ₦5 million per month (with proof) and has saved ₦60 million for your education, that makes sense.

The ₦60 million being used for your education should not cripple their business, as they still have sufficient income and savings.

In summary: the key issue is the money and clearly explaining where the money is coming from.
