You legal ones are their major headache as you are the ones making it more competitive for the locals. That’s what all the noise is all about. The media and politicians masks it to make it look as if it’s about the illegal migration but like I always say the legal ones will always pay the price. An illegal migrant like someone has said don’t mind waiting 50 years to get ilr.
True though

Na hard life legal immigrant come grin

About £10 a week for pocket money but HO carters for their basic needs - healthcare, accomodation, utilises and feeding. They also get legal aid to support their asylum application.

Once asylum granted, they are entitled to any benefit a british citizen is entitled to.

A large number of asylum claimants stay on benefits because they do not have the relevant education/skill and language proficency for higher paying jobs.
They also get Taxi fair to court or immigration centre but that has been cancelled by shabana now. Those asylum seekers are having it easy tbh

Stumbled upon this. Second time I'm seeing his video and it was interesting to watch. I wonder what our thoughts are

My take: The fallout of lacking wealth runs deep - a major reason why I'm against the 15yr ILR route is that it'd only make things like this worse.

Lower rates of home ownership does seem to be a huge driver of poverty among black groups. Home ownership via a mortgage was the economic miracle of the 20th century that underpinned many western economies. Notwithstanding the talk of st0ck market returns, for a migrant, it's extremely difficult to build wealth in the west without owning a home. For many, it forms the base upon which other things are built.
Yes, we need time to catch up but wealth also does compound. Without making the right moves, those who have might only just get more.

Good morning all and compliments of the season.

Please, is there anybody who has recently renewed their passport WITHOUT uploading/submitting a local government certificate? This is one of the documents that is required to be uploaded while filling the application form.

I have tried to obtain an e- LGA certificate but my state liasion office and LGA e-portal (Anambra State) are unresponsive.

Regards and many thanks for your response in advance

Does your state have its own site for LGA certificate? It might also be because it's end of the yr so maybe give till next year and try online again.
If you have some one who can physically go to you LGA office in anambra , they only need your passport photograph and your names as written on your passport plus details of your LGA or village for state of origin.

Or if you have someone in Lagos you can check for you State liaison office in Lagos and send someone as well
You can either

https://passport.immigration.gov.ng/

Click on applying outside Nigeria when the dialog box opens.

You have to start the application on the website first, then when you get to a point it will ask you if you want to do self biometric, if yes then you can continue on the app to take your biometrics then continue with payment on the site.
Last I knew the app doesn't do the entire process end to end yet.

I paid for mine in August and booked a date for biometrics next month.
At the time I went through the process on the NIS website, I wasn't asked for anything from state of origin/LGA. The only two pieces of documentary evidence requested were a copy of my birth certificate and a copy of my previous passport. So something must have changed between then and now if they're now asking for LGA certificates as well.

I didn't do the whole NPC thingy for attestations of birth pre-1992, and just uploaded a copy of the old faded handwritten Lagos State birth certificate. Not sure whether this is acceptable or not, but am going to the HC in January, so we'll see.

State of Origin has been a requirement for a while. I did mine in July this yr.
So unless the requirements changed I'm not sure.

I'd advice you get NPC attestation of birth. It can be processed online too. You'd might need it for the future.especially because your birth registration is faded. I had to do it for us migration so I already had it.

Do not bother about NPC or LGA cert.
The online form will ask for it.
Upload anything there.
You will not be asked for it again.
We just went through this. We uploaded NIN inside the LGA upload space. Captured at Nigeria High Commission this month and no stress nor was it asked for. I am also pre-1992 and used my birth certificate, nobody asked me to go look for NPC.
Renewals are even more straightforward and this is what you fall under.

Reflecting on the last day of what has been an intense year for migrants worldover, the best migrant-centric UK-based news for me this year is captured below.

Indian nationals are leading the charge internationally, founding 684 new companies in the first half of the year.... Nigerian investors follow closely with 647 new incorporations, while Polish and Irish nationals also feature highly.
https://www.hamptons.co.uk/articles/international-landlords#/

The main cohort of Nigerians counted here would be those on a visa/ILR who are awaiting their kpali as those with one wouldn't have been counted as foreign. It shows that despite all the noise, we are pushing on. At least, if someone blames migrants for not being able to buy a house, there'd be some 'evidence' to point at.
Of note, this counts professional landlords i.e those setting up through companies. It does not include those renting directly and certainly not owner-occupiers. Also worth noting that most people setting up via limited companies hardly stop at one property. Many go on to have more just because of the nature of the market.

Caveats here would be
1. Starting a BTL company does not mean one has bought. Its a process but it depicts professional intent.
2. Some of these could be Nigerians resident abroad though this would be a miniscule number if at all significant.

We bought a house in 2024 and i had already started looking for a buy to let property but i had to suspend that due to the uncertainty surrounding ILR
