Christianity and Islam is a religious of FAITH. It not science that a proof that it work is needed. Once you understand what faith means, that’s all

OP,you missed it up,the whole thing from the beginning.
-First, ONLY THE CHURCH HAS THE CROSS -OVER Night - Not Muslims- so if there is any Muslim doing that - na Copy Cat be that.
- Secondly,Christians Are Used to Night Vigil, but the New Year Is All Over The World 🌎,Not limited to Nigeria Christians Alone.
Thirdly,we should be grateful 🥲 to God Almighty By Setting this 31st of December Apart - to show Gratefulness, Faithfulness of God and Appreciation - for A New Brand Year!

Some of them wey go that church for cross-over go still remain for the same position dem been dey last year or even worse. Going to cross-over night isn't spiritual at all. Who God wants to bless or favour, He does, not unless you go to church on 31st December before God go bless you. Sine January this year I never enter church but I've seen the goodness of God in my life wella.
Just have a right standing with God and humans....live right, love one another, share with people....

I'm surprised mosque are now really going into this cross over thing.

It was strictly a Christian thing.

kolafolabi:
Every December 31st, a familiar ritual unfolds across Nigeria. Roads stay busy late into the night, churches overflow, mosques are filled, and many Nigerians make deliberate efforts to ensure they “cross over” into the New Year within a place of worship. For many, being in church or mosque as the clock strikes midnight on January 1 is seen as spiritually significant, almost compulsory.

But the question remains: does crossing over in church or mosque really matter?

For believers, crossing over is symbolic. It represents gratitude for survival through the outgoing year and hope for divine protection, favour, and guidance in the year ahead. In a country weighed down by economic hardship, insecurity, and uncertainty, faith provides comfort and reassurance.

However, spirituality should not be reduced to a single night. Faith, whether Christian or Muslim, is meant to be lived daily through integrity, discipline, compassion, and responsibility. Spending January 1 in a place of worship does not automatically guarantee success or protection, just as missing a crossover service does not condemn anyone to misfortune.

Interestingly, while Nigerians passionately debate and prioritise crossover services, major national issues often pass with little public scrutiny. From January 1, new tax policies are set to take effect, beginning with systems like the National Revenue Service (NRS). These policies will directly affect livelihoods, businesses, and household income, yet there is little public conversation, resistance, or demand for accountability.

This contrast is troubling. We are quick to defend religious practices but slow to question governance, policy decisions, and economic reforms that shape daily survival. Many who passionately fill religious centres are also victims of corruption, poor leadership, and weak institutions, yet silence prevails where collective civic action is most needed.

My take is simple: crossing over only matters when faith translates into consciousness, courage, and responsibility. Religion should not be an escape from reality or a shield for corruption. True faith should empower citizens to question injustice, demand transparency, and live ethically, both in private and in public life.

Ultimately, the New Year does not reward where you stood at midnight. It responds to awareness, preparation, and action. Whether one crosses over in a church, a mosque, at home, or at work, what truly matters is how one lives from January 1 onward.

Faith without accountability is ritual.
Religion without responsibility becomes noise.
Hope without action changes nothing.

Thank you.
What concerns the mosque or moslems with the Judeo- Christian calendar? January 1st is the beginning of Christian calendar. The moslems have their own calendar and they have already celebrated their own new year on june 25, 2025. The moslem people are in 1447 according to their calendar.
Any moslem celebrating the Judeo- Christian new year on January 1st is a Christian. No Christian on earth celebrate the Islamic new year.
That's why MURIC is useless. Their only concern is enforcing wearing hijab in lagos Government schools

Re: Does Crossing Over In Church Or Mosque Really Matter? by Kalulu44: 11:37pm On Dec 31, 2025
I always ask people, what's new about new year and new month?
Cus for anything to be new in my eyes, I expect the new year for my street to be filled with gold and silver. For every roads to be paved and concrete. For every house to be new and all that. But I wake up to see same things I saw ystday while I went to sleep with no changes, and you expect me to say happy new month or year.
It's out of respect I say happy new month or year to my bosses or my elders. And I am not the one to say it first, if you tell me I tell you same.
The only thing that changes from December and January is the name and from what year to another year is number. 2025 just changed to 2026. One number change

And another thing I want to highlight here is, when Criminals, fornicators, backbitters, killers, rapist, drug users, arm robbers, kidnappers and et al will sacrifice just this one hour to go to church and wait till 12am to say happy new year and then continue their old ways. What's the essence?
Same thing with Muslims during their fasting, all those abominable things I listed above will be dropped for the duration of the fasting, only to resume them after the fasting.
Who una think say una dey deceive.
I dey my house like this and can sleep anytime from now, to hell with una and hypocritical cross over.
