I strongly support Utomi on this one. If the retirement age in the federal civil service is 60years what should someone over 70 be doing as president?

Stiff age restriction should be included in our constitution for political offices as president, governor, senate, and rep.

I could vividly recall, Buhari at 72 was visibly crying that age was failing him. Most elderly people at 70 and over have a myriad of protracted illnesses. It's purely a liability on national budget having such individuals as presidents. Again, the most dangerous one is that most critical decisions, either good or bad are often influenced by the croonies surrounding the president, who is aged and cannot act fast with alacrity. His mental dependency level increases.

Age restrictions should be ensured to keep old brains away from active politics and go into permanent retirement.
If we are to go by age restrictions sirs/ma.
It would be 60 years of age.

Anybody above 60yrs of age is Old.

Very true. How can 70 years 70-year-old person occupy a political post? Even traditional rules nowadays are young men not to talk of President.
Most world leaders are aged people

Starting from Donald Trump, Joe Bidden e.t.c

The old brain should start from 60 years old but our insincerity would always push us to be bias in everything. What is someone above 60 doing in politics again.

Until we are sincere in this country and realise that all these recycled politicians do not mean any good in making Nigeria progress.

How old were the last and current American presidents? How old were some of the best leaders worldwide. Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Joe Biden, Trump etc. Even now Trump wants to go a third term. Then in U.K the longest , strongest Prime Minister in contemporary times was Margaret Thatcher. Age has nothing to do with performance. Is Yaya Bello up to 70? Those calling for 70 have their own selfish agenda.

Age alone should not decide leadership. What really matters is good health, clear thinking, and good ideas. Some people above 70 are still strong and capable, while some younger leaders fail badly. Instead of focusing only on age, we should judge leaders by their competence, integrity, and performance.

A 60 years old is already a retired civil servant.

Tinubu, Atiku and obi are too old to be president unless we are deceiving ourselves.
Me I believe anyone over 50 years should not be president. If you check Nigeria's demographics, over 90% of the population is under 50. If democracy is truly a representation of the masses, the average age of the president, governors, and elective office holders should be about 40 years.

I disagree. Being president of a country is a very rigorous task, it requires extreme physical and mental strength. A person over 70 years do not possess the physical and mental capacity to effectively govern as president or even governors, with a few exceptions - aka Obasanjo.(When Obasanjo was president, he hardly slept up to 4 hours a day). The only other slight effective president after OBJ was Jonathan, even though he was rumoured to be drunk for half the day and only effective for about 8 hours a day. All other presidents Nigeria had produced outside these two were "baroque". They spent more time in hospitals and undergoing treatment than actual governance. We hardly see or hear from president Tinubu. We hear from the "presidency" most of the time. It seems its the presidency ruling Nigeria.

Even the US has suffered greatly from putting geriatric presidents into office for the last 14 years.

It's actually about age because an old dog cannot learn a new trick. So an old president can't handle the issues of the nation
That's if the old person is dull like buhari

Are people like okonjo, not old, are they not intune with innovative methods

OF COURSE! IT SHOULD BE NO ONE MORE THAN 60 YEARS!

HOW MANY BUSINESSES EMPLOY 60 YEARS+ AS THEIR MANAGERS NOT TO TALK OF A PRESIDENT TO MANAGE 200MILLION+ PEOPLE.

THIS AGE THING SHOULD ALSO APPLY TO ALL ELECTIVE POSITIONS.

WE MUST START TO SEE THE RUNNING OF NIGERIA AS A SERIOUS BUSINESS ENTERPRISE.

I agree with Mr Utomi. Our parents generation failed us as leaders. Cheers. Let's give a young leader a chance to occupy Aso Rock.
