Leyqute:When I saw Fletcher talking about the club DNA and how they want to look inwards, I just knew we're not leaving the trenches soon. Even city spend good money on players every year |

Leyqute:Can you bring up any post where I said we should play the yooots? Also, remind me how you guys were against signing expensive mercenaries and just buying players that will grow with the team. I remember when Utd was buying the big boys, you guys were saying we needed to build a squad with potentials. Now, we should revert to the mercenary model. Chai, Una get plenty mouths for here o. |

nitrogen:Will you take Zubimendi and Rice over Ugarte and Mainoo—yes or no? Are they superstars? What about Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali? Are they superstars? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Leyqute(m): 8:29pm On Jan 11 |
eph12:We’ll sign new managers but the tears will not go away. I give Nitrogen and his coven 3 weeks before they turn on the interim. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 8:32pm On Jan 11 |
Leyqute:Well. Hindsight is great, we sabi Rice now. No Dey whine us for here. If Rice was here, he would have been another useless British player. Rice and the players you mentioned are average players that are performing well because of their managers. Meanwhile, should we go back to the mercenary model? |

Leyqute:I never said a CM is not priority. I only pointed out another sore point that should be taken seriously, despite spending 62m to strengthen the same department barely 7 months ago If you look at the antecedents on this thread, it appears our "needs" are dynamic and always changing ![]() I remember when the general consensus here was that the addition of wingbacks was the immediate solution to Amorim's problems. How has that panned out? Was it not afterwards the talk changed to midfield? Remember when Onana was pinpointed as the cause of the leaky defence. People swore that we would be keeping clean sheets once we sign a new goalkeeper. How are we travelling with that now? Whoever it is that is in charge needs to assess the team holistically and properly before making decisions that should be devoid of sentimental opinions of fans. Till then, the manager has to make the most out of the season - we can still have a decent finish |

At this rate, our fans would only be happy if we swap squads with other performing teams every year. |

Leyqute:God bless you for that City reference. They noticed a dross signing and quickly replaced him before the window ended. That's a sign of a serious club. |

odizeey:Comparing us with CL teams that have UEFA money to spend? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 8:37pm On Jan 11 |
Jamiuokolaa:We dey even try sef. We competitively sign players despite no major trophies and inconsistent UCL participations. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by patrickmuf(m): 8:39pm On Jan 11 |
afrodoc2:Most of the players we buy are players who did well enough at their previous clubs that made it seem like a reasonable decision. The signing of Cunha and Mbeumo made a whole lot of sense back when they were brought in, a lot of fans felt it was a good decision seeing that we were getting good supporting cast with EPL experience. Cunha is not doing as well as we expected right now but that is down to the benefit of hindsight, you can't start questioning the board when it appeared the reasonable move to make at the time...In fact, it has been a recurring problem for sometime, we sign a good player and he gets here and struggles. As a manager (board), you can't keep changes players especially when we are not getting the cash that comes with playing in the UCL...The only option is to change the manager while sustaining reasonable investment in the team... |

nitrogen:We don't have that many players that are better than some of the players in these teams. I can easily list 5-7 of our players that are not all that. There's a reason why top teams want to have the best players possible in every position. There's also the matter of mentality, fitness, strength and determination to fight for every ball and cover a lot of ground |

StarchAndBanga:Can you defend the notion that Ugarte is better than Fred? |

nitrogen:With this porous midfield? Jehovah! |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 8:43pm On Jan 11 |
Leyqute:Fletcher last interview, he was singing the song the owners will love to hear. How the United DNA is all about the academy and wanting to look inwards. I just laughed because he will be sacked very soon if he tries that as the manager |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 8:45pm On Jan 11 |
eph12:So, are you saying that we won’t achieve anything with this set of players, even if we get a better manager? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by odizeey(m): 8:45pm On Jan 11 |
Jamiuokolaa:Don't bring this spending excuse here abeg. Aston Villa get money pass us? Check their activities this window. |

Jamiuokolaa:Who were the wingbacks added? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Leyqute(m): 8:46pm On Jan 11 |
Jamiuokolaa:I think we can even still manage Cunha, Mount or whoever on the wings. You see that midfield, it’s one of the most important departments in football. Yet we only have a couple of troublesome options there. Mainoo, Ugarte, and Casemiro. None of these guys should be a starter for Man United right now. Two of them were in the starting XI today and the third one came on to “rescue” the game with his weak legs. We are not ready at all. |

odizeey:You tell us how much we have spent compared to Aston Villa in the last 2 years |

Leyqute:Have we spent over the years or not? |

nitrogen:What's your definition of anything? What's your minimum expectation? |

Jamiuokolaa:Then why are you acting like the club is broke? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by nitrogen(m): 8:48pm On Jan 11 |
eph12:Top 4-6 this season, same next season and one of the cups. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Leyqute(m): 8:49pm On Jan 11 |
eph12:That one na yes man now. That’s what he’s expected to say. Meanwhile, transfer window will soon close and we won’t strengthen that midfield in any manner this January. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Jamiuokolaa: 8:49pm On Jan 11 |
Leyqute:Just one injury or loss of form to Mbuemo/Amad and the story would change to how Cunha has been shyte since we bought him yet the board did nothing. How Mount has spent more time in the hospital yet we stuck with him No be this thread again? Na today? ![]() |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by StarchAndBanga: 8:49pm On Jan 11 |
odizeey:Same Ugarte u been dey talk about for here or another one? ? odizeey:Same person way dey drag ETH for wanting to keep McTom instead of signing Ugarte don dey campaign for McTom being a better player than Ugarte Hindsight is wonderful ![]() |

nitrogen:Have you plugged the hole in midfield since SAF left? |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Lana1(m): 8:51pm On Jan 11 |
eph12:The day this starts happening consistently home or away is the day we become a consistent top 4 team again and not all that "we thank God we beat Liverpool games". To challenge for league from there will be a matter of 1 or 2 key signings. But no matter who the manager is, that's never going to happen when we are still parading Dalot, Dorgu, Shaw, Ugarte and co |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Leyqute(m): 8:51pm On Jan 11 |
Jamiuokolaa:We need reinforcements on the wings as well but at this moment the midfield is more important. It’s astounding how that point flew over your head. |
| Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 8:52pm On Jan 11 |
patrickmuf:Changing the manager is one of the things to do. Another thing to do is improving our scouting, player identification and general assessment of players. The scouting of some of these average players might make a lot of sense to a fan who has his own job to do but watches Man United weekly and checks YouTube highlights of a player or watches the player a couple of times a season. Very importantly, it is not the fan’s duty to assess the player. When we keep buying players that appear not good enough then it is reasonable to ask for more from the staff members whose job it is to study and analyse these players for days, weeks, months before we decide to buy them and the staff whose job it is to approve the deals. I don’t get what you don’t understand about us improving our assessment of players in addition to changing underperforming managers. We can do both at the same time. It is not an either or issue. |
