Hi everyone.
I would appreciate your advice from all the gurus in the house.
I intend to apply for a visa to attend my post grad graduation in May and visit family in the UK for about 10 days
Here are my circumstances and l would like to know if l stand a chance.
My Bank account currently has about USD4,500 in savings. My net salary is USD 2,100.
I will leave my husband and 2 kids aged, 5 and 8 at home.
We own a house which we currently live in.
What is a realistic amount that l should say l intend to use during my stay and a realistic amount for my monthly costs for my family and l?
I studied my Masters in the UK in 2008 and worked from 2010 to 2012. Travelleed back to my home country in 2012 and visited the UK in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 l was issued with a 2 year visa. So in this case can l apply for a 2 year visa again or is the 6 month visa safer?

[quote author=Tintin263 post=138050888]Hi everyone.

I will advise you apply for 2yrs, 5yrs or 10yrs not 6months. but to be on the safe side you can do 2 or 5yrs. This is what i did, my last visit to the UK was in 2013 on a 2yr visa. I re applied in Nov 2025 for a 2yr visa and it was approved

Sorry who’s post grad is it?
You can apply for 5 or 10 years. You do not have to give a reason for long term visa application. You simply give details of the one time trip and your itinerary for it.
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Tintin263: 1:27pm On Jan 07
Thank you for your response, l was just not too sure l was not being too ambitious applying for 5 years, since l have not travelled to the UK in such a long time. The post grad is mine which l attained last year in the UK, but l was doing it online.

Online degree and wanting to attend graduation in person is very tricky.
Your ties however if strong can sway it in your direction.
Apply for 5 years.
Any recent travel history?
Your job how long have you been there?
Is the net salary reflecting monthly in your account?
What is the relationship to the family you have in the UK?

Please i lost my wife during my first application in 2018, now I'm married to another wife and we also did court marriage, do i need to proof it? Because my late wife name was in my last application, and now i want to use my current wife's name.... please advise me... because I want to do it myself this time and get it right.
Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Tintin263: 3:40pm On Jan 07
I have been with my employer for 15 years. Yes the net salary reflects in my account and is consistent.

I have 2 uncles (my dad's older brothers and their families who live there), l actually lived with one of them when l was in University.

I was in Dubai with my family for 10 days over the Christmas holiday. In January 2025 l was in Cape Town for New Years.

You don't need to ask if proof is needed. Anything you say, you have to present proof na.
Present proof of your marriage with your current wife. Then explain in your cover letter about your late wife.

My question, is UK also using CAC agent website to verified applicants CAC certificates?

Hello. Good afternoon too. In current times even if there is 1 billion naira set aside for the visa, the UK immigration is focused on you and your own circumstances. Not on the sponsors.
So what are your ties to Nigeria and what will bring you back to Nigeria? In the meantime try and read a few pages of this thread because there is a lot to learn. It would help you know what your strengths or weaknesses are.

You should have her death certificate, submit it with your application and include the incident in your cover note

6 months visa alert for my retired mum!!! She went for her biometrics at Ikeja on the 5th of January, and we got an email/SMS notification that her passport was ready for collection on the 12th of January.

This is her second time applying for the U.K visa, the last time was in 2019, and she travelled with my dad for a work Conference at the time. I assisted her with the application and chose the self-upload option, and these were the documents I provided.

Passport document(I scanned all the pages of her passport as instructed on the VFS page)
Past visa(Expired U.K visa) and existing visas (She has a valid U.S & Canadian visitor's visa)
Home ownership document and Utility bill
National ID card
Hotel reservation
My dad is her sponsor, he has a business and also lectures so I provided his Bank statement, Bank reference, CAC documents, Tax clearance, (Business), Work ID, Letter of employment (Lecturing)
Sponsor's passport data page and existing visas (he has a valid U.S & Canadian visitor's visa too)
Her Bank statement and Pension statement
Letter of explanation of her finances for huge amounts
Reference letter from her bank
Marriage Certificate, Wedding Pictures, & Family pictures
Pictures from their last trip to the U.K.
Cover letter/Self-introductory letter
Sponsor's letter stating he will be bearing all the cost of the trip
Proof of application
Degree Certificate (wasn't necessary, I was just being extra)

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Dradephoenix(m): 12:30am On Jan 15
Good day everyone,
I’m seeking advice from people who have experience with UK visit visas or immigration generally.

My mother recently applied for a UK Standard Visitor Visa to visit me and my family (I and my wife are both NHS doctors) for a short family visit. Unfortunately, her application was refused under Appendix V (genuine visitor / intention to leave).

What is confusing and frustrating is this:
My mother-in-law applied earlier and was granted a UK visit visa
I sponsored more money for my mother-in-law (700£ as to £400) than for my mum.
My mum earns more monthly than my mother-in-law
My mum had higher savings (₦3.4m vs ₦2.1m)
Both have no previous travel history.
Both have husbands and children living in Nigeria.
Both had employment letters and approved leave.
Both applications had detailed cover letters and supporting documents.

Despite this, UKVI refused my mum’s application, saying her economic circumstances are not strong enough and that they are not satisfied she would leave the UK at the end of her visit.
There is no right of appeal, only reapplication if circumstances change.

My questions:
Has anyone experienced this kind of inconsistency before?
What kind of “change in circumstances” realistically makes a difference for a UK visit visa?
Is it better to wait before reapplying, and if so, how long?
Is there anything specific UKVI tends to value more (employment type, length of service, assets, etc.)?
I’m not looking to argue with UKVI, just trying to understand how to approach this sensibly without wasting money on another refusal.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone with experience, especially successful reapplications.

Thank you I will be in the comment session.
Attached is the refusal letter

This is just a typical of case of them fabricating a reason for denial.

If sponsor is not relevant, they should have removed that field from the visa application form.

Many have gotten their visa approved with sponsor covering 100% of cost of trip, and with no previous travel history.

If you want to reapply, my advice would be for her to fund 100% of the trip. Transfer money to her account that would be sufficient.(The money should sit at least for 28days in her account before reapplying)

Please provide the financial details that were entered on the application form, as this will help to clarify the situation. So far, only her income and total savings have been mentioned. If you could also answer the following questions, it would allow others to give more informed input:

What amount was stated on the form as her monthly expenses? This is needed to calculate her disposable income.

What amount was stated as the total cost of the trip? This will help determine whether the expenses exceed 2.5 times her disposable income.

Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 5 by Lordcrixus: 2:24pm On Jan 15
Dradephoenix:
Thanks for this. Below are the figures exactly as stated on the application and supporting documents:

Monthly income: ₦400,000
Monthly expenses (as declared): approximately ₦60,000 (covering groceries, transport, utilities, and household needs). supported by her bank statement
Total trip cost declared: £890
Personal contribution: £490
Son’s contribution (mine): £400
At the time of application, her closing bank balance was ₦3,483,619.56, with an opening balance of ₦2,447,798.86 and regular monthly salary credits shown on the statement (3-month bank statement provided). These figures were explained in a separate financial explanation letter submitted with the application
For me, I provided my Barclays 1-month statement, thats is the most you can provide from the Barclays statement document with a balance of approx 6k pounds and three months' payslip with an average take-home of approx £4k
Happy to clarify further if helpful, as I don't want to get entangled in a rejection loop.
From what I can see, her personal contribution toward the trip may be higher than 2.5 times her disposable income when calculated using the OANDA exchange rate that visa officers typically rely on. You might want to consider slightly reducing her stated contribution in the application and increasing your own contribution, if possible.
Overall, the rest of the financial details look quite good. Going forward, it would simply be helpful to continue keeping the bank account in good order for any future application.

My opinion.
Visa denial uncalled for, at least the refusal letter does not have any basis.
Start Official complaints process (primary route)
Obtain clear rationale and redress
If unsatisfied: Consider PAP next.
Attach any supporting documents and a clear timeline
Maintain a respectful, factual tone in all communications but please remember to mention your contribution to the healthcare system and payment of all your taxes. Also not collecting benefits etc ..

I genuinely don’t think you should reapply first.
Complain. Go through the process. Read the thread few pages back.

Lastly, Barclays statements are not limited to 1 month . They give all your statements.
- In the app: Open Documents section -> download multiple months -> compile as needed .
In case of next time, she doesn’t need to sponsor any part of the trip as elderly parents can get away with this. Fully sponsor. Even 4k is enough.

@Dradephoenix I agree 100% with this, do not accept the baseless denial and do not reapply immediately, go through the process of seeking redress. You stand a good chance. Also ensure you dont delay. There's usually a timeline of 3months within which if you don't seek redress your matter won't be attended to. Lastly, it may take some time before you get the desired result but it's worth it.
