I don't usually engage with most people here because they lack exposure, but I'll make an exception for you.

In serious countries, no individual is allowed to do such things without a valid construction license and a fully registered company.

You can only volunteer with organizations like the Red Cross or British Heart Foundation for simple community issues, like picking litter and other similar roles.

This type of work is done by the council or other relevant government bodies, which is why you pay taxes!

Who knows that the govt has not done a single 1km road in a whole senetorial zone of Enugu north in the state made up of only 3 senetorial zones. Not even one after 3 years in government. 2027 is approaching and it will be pay back time.

Yes, they pay taxes, howbeit indirectly such as PAYE for those who work with standardize enterprises (private or public).

Taxes pushed by businesses onto prices.

Daily Land taxes in form of rented market spaces, which is very common all over the country.

Ticket taxes on transportation pushed on prices and many more irregular and regular taxes, plus this new direct income tax that is already in motion.

So, yes, every single person in this country pay taxes and VATs, and have been paying before this new one.

I remember my youth service in the east, I learnt a lot from Igbos. I learnt that before colonialism, as an Igbo man comes of age and marries, his age grade will gather to build a house for him for free and he will do the same for anyone in his age grade who gets married. Such communal lifestyle is commendable .
