Why not? Would he still be relying on the North to deliver him with 5.6m votes? A self proclaimed "Southern candidate" that can only afford to marginally win in 4 Yoruba states across the entire South cannot claim to be the authentic Southern candidate.

A win is a win. All you need is 1 more vote than the opposition. Once you're declared president it doesn't matter who is authentic or not. What matters is who is legally declared
