Cats get strong hunting instinct, so some bold ones fit actually kill small or medium snakes, especially non-venomous ones. But big or poisonous snake? That one fit end badly for the cat. So make no rely on cat as snake security abeg. Some cats go just run 😂

Not terribly sure about a mongoose, but definitely a badger. Honey badgers are actually more intelligent that cats. As for a mongoose, I'm sure that with enough training it will be possible as well.

Yes, pet cats can kill snakes. More effectively, cats scare snakes miles away. I recently did a research by trying to rear a pet cat in my house which is very close to a bushy area and since last one year plus I have not seen any snake around. Meanwhile, we did normally see snakes at least once in a week in that area before I started rearing the pet cat. This evidence can be further confirmed by a simple watch of you-tube videos documenting fights between cats and snakes.
Recommendation: Get one pet cat for your safety against snake incidence.

But the problem is if the snake sees you the human before thee mongoose or honey badger pet sees it because the pet is asleep or went outside to hunt. What do you think will happen before it's awake or comes back from hunt ?

Cats do kill snakes,it depends on how brave is the cat and the size of the snake.
I don't know if anyone has expired this behaviour from cats, they tend to bring live snakes and rats to the compound/house if they are not hungry, they even start playing with the snake/ rat before finally killing them.

I feel that cats would confront a snake and even kill a snake if it has kittens it's protecting otherwise it would, only do enough to chase the snake away and wouldn't pursue it if it crawls away. The cat also would be unlikely to alert you that there is a snake in your compound or even in the house.

A dog does not have the reaction speed of a cat, so cannot safely kill a snake without risking getting bitten. But a dog is more likely to alert when it see a snake.

I have lots of cats in my area and don't bother them. They serve as better security against these reptiles.
