Better fumigate n clear bush in your surroundings. Dont rely on cat dealing with snake, its 50-50
fumigation is a temporary measure, don't really on it. As soon as the air is clear, the great slitterer will come back

Yes they do.

Snake bite can't affect their fur.

Of course, snake like python is no go area.

Python will strangulate it
who told you snake bites can affects cats? Their furs are just furs. The reason why snake get rarely bitten is that they have a much faster reaction time that the snakes. So they see the snake strike faster and react much faster than the snake can strike. Nothing to do with furs.

Chances of a Cat killing a Cobra without being bitten is less than 20%.
Only animals notorious for killing snakes are Mongoose & Honey Badger
You are very wrong, cats have better reaction time than mongoose. Mongoose gets bitten but their nature is designed to withstand or neutralize the venom, but a cobra can never bite a cat unless it's sleeping.
Re: Do Cats Kill Snakes? by Offpoint1: 10:35pm On Feb 03
GanagiBitrus:
One thing you should know is that Cats don't naturally hunt snakes.

In a confrontation, once a Cat dodges the strikes from a Cobra once or twice, it will instinctively know that the Cobra is not an easy prey & will allow the cobra to slide away.

This is unlike a Mongoose which naturally hunts snakes & has developed skills to effectively hunt down & kill/eat any snake that crosses it's path.
Every animal will fight for either food or territory.
A cat might decide to back out if the snake isn't in his territory, maybe outside or far from the house.

Anything within the environment, it's a fight till death.

We had 15 cats in our family house, my grandmother was a lover of cats.

Yes they can.

Yes, but not always. Cats can kill snakes, especially small or non-venomous ones, using speed and sharp reflexes. But it’s risky, venomous snakes can seriously injure or kill cats. Not all cats will attack snakes, and many will avoid them. Cats are not snake hunters anyway, so it’s more about their instinct and curiosity than skill or nature.

jesus ?
cats has a very fast reflex
or should i say cats are faster than snakes attack.
but in some cases a miscalculated evasion of the attack by the snakes can lead to a poisonous strike that would kill the cat..
the fur doest save them just speed and reflex

fur doest save your cats from snakes venom.
only your cats speeds and reflex can save it only when calculated efficiently.
any failed calculations your cat is gone.

You see that kind of big Cobra or an African mamba, enh vs a cat and you say the cat will kill those types?

That would be 10/90 chances

The cat may be faster, but the serpent would definitely be more precisive

Abeg the only known documented champions are

1. Honey Badgers

2. Mongoose

3. Golden Eagle (that's even when the snake is not suspecting)

I'll rather domesticate a Honey badger than a cat for this purpose, but I don't think honey Badgers can be easily tamed, those animals are unforgiving and will even be bold enough to attack anyone or anything believe me

OK. That's means you'd be familiar with the fact that Cats often toy around with with rats/lizards before eating them.
That could be deadly with a venomous snake like Cobra. Even the venom of a dead Cobra is still potent for a long while.

Look Bro, chances of a Cat getting a dose of venom in a confrontation is quite high, even if the Cat kills the Cobra.

You are getting it mixed up.

If you are familiar with cats, they often toy around with prey (rats/lizards) before eating them. That would be deadly with a venomous snake like Cobra.
Also, the venom of a Cobra is still potent even long after death.

As for the Mongoose, they are natural snake hunters, & have developed skills to hunt down & kill/eat any snake that crosses it's path, with little or no chance of being bitten or killed by the snake.

YES, cats advantage is their reflex.....snakes size matters too but its impotant to keep a cat at home cos even if it cant kill the snake, it will bring your attention to it hence you'd be safe.

Where can I buy a Honey Badger in Nigeria ? Please let me know. Can anyone smuggle it into Nigeria? Or can I buy a domesticated mongoose in Nigeria? Cheers.
The percentage of you seeing it or buying it is 0.000% so just commot mind for such option.

You can rear guinea fowl for such purpose too and also ensure your surrounding is clean

Venomous Bites: If a cat fights a venomous snake, they are at high risk of being bitten, which can be fatal.

Constriction: Large snakes, such as pythons, can overpower and kill domestic cats.

While cats can be effective at keeping smaller snakes away from homes, they should not be relied upon as primary defense against dangerous snakes.
feral cats can kills venomous snakes in Australia there have been reports of feral cats preying on highly venomous snakes

Interesting. I'm planning to keep some geese in my farm, hoping they'd help with snake visits. I wish I'd find a badger.

The risks are even higher for a domesticated cat, which the OP referred to.

Convince yourself...

true but also take note that feral cats kill for food and they are more experienced hunters while domestic cats kills for the fun of killing and feral cats grow much larger than domestic cats so their is a higher chance of them killing a cobra

Chickens? But geese kill and eat snakes like they're snacks. I guess chickens can do that too, but only very tiny ones, as size is everything in the animal kingdom, right?

This is information that I got from working farmers. Chickens are the best for pest control, rats, snakes, e.t.c. Supposedly, geese are much less effective.
