I use to have this Igbo family as neighbors way back in the 80’s ( 5 girls & a boy) their parents would warn them from playing too much with us (boys) and would tell them having a rich man should be their goal or priority. Not every girls that you see in such an age that lived a worthless life. Some has been misfortune for too long. Most men in their 40ths that don't want to marry it's not because they don't want to marry but life happened to them. Men are always talking this way and brandishing this girls because they stand in a disadvantage position. If most when have this leverage that men have many would be married. I have met 27 and 29 years virgin with good behaviour but they are not married. Understand that we are living in a complex world that things are not the way we see them always.

You must be joking. Single ladies are the ones truly happy, enjoying constant peace of mind. It is the married women who are bitter. What exactly is "happy" about many Nigerian married women?

It is a good thing there are men who reject harmful societal norms and treat women with respect. God knows, if I were to judge by Nigeria's relationship structure alone, I would totally avoid marriage. I see marriage as the unknown, but with the right green lights, I am considering taking the risk.

If it were just about traditional roles, it could still make sense if seen as just a division of labour. But many of the other things society normalizes; cheating, violence, overly controlling behaviour, belittling, over-stressing women like donkeys, and demanding endless sacrifices; are the real issue.
