Seun, I'll chip in on the search question since I run into the same limits regularly. The biggest pain points in the current search: - No way to filter by section. Searching "BMI" returns results from Health, Programming, General, all mixed together. Forum search is most useful when you can narrow to a specific board. - No date range filter. A thread from 2013 ranks the same as one from last week. Old spam and outdated threads bury current discussions. - No "search within author's posts" option. Sometimes you remember who said something but not exactly what thread. - Exact phrase search does not seem to work reliably. What would make it genuinely great: - Section filter (similar to how Reddit lets you search within a subreddit) - Sort toggle: relevance vs. date (newest first) - Title-only vs. full-text toggle — title search is much cleaner for finding specific topics - Author filter for finding posts by a specific user On the library problem: most off-the-shelf search libraries optimise for English precision. Nairaland has pidgin, Yoruba/Igbo/Hausa loanwords, and unique Nigerian name spellings baked in at massive scale. Whatever library you tried probably choked on that. A custom tokeniser or a library that supports custom dictionaries would handle it better. Postgres full-text search with custom configurations is one option — it handles Nigerian English reasonably well and does not require an external service. |

Seun you need to vibe code an improvement of nairaland. Its too basic and needs to be far better UI wise. |

Seun:The search is too primitive, needs advanced filtering. Also people rely on nairaland for news. The landing page should show the most active threads with pics if possible. Redo it like the old yahoo portal of the 00s. Otherwise you don try to use same UI for over two decades. |

Seun:Your bot is very biased. It will ban user A for a certain comment but allow User B post same comment in same topic. I have tested it extensively. |

Seun:if the search can be upgraded to allow TD-IDF type of matching, it will make sense. Also searching of phrases. Example is when i search for a phrase like "Cataclysmic tendencies" it should have the option to return only results carrying that exact sequence of words and not random appearance of both words within a post. |

What I've been up to. We enabled automated topic moving to the right section. We've uncovered many mistakes which we're fixing. We've added support for high resolution banner ads on Nairaland: The format is 636 x 212 px which is double width and height of the low resolution ads. Compress as JPEG 4:4:4, 90-95% accuracy. Your ads will look very sharp on your customers' HD mobile phones. We've formalized the handling of adult service ads. Updated the guide to placing ads on Nairaland. |

Too many negative vibes from Nairaland members are making it hard for me to remain focused. We've done lots of changes for advertisers. We are fixing the twitter bot now that the API is pay as you go. It needs to work 24x7. |
