delpee:Regardless, it should not be forced on people. It should be voluntary. I have donated blood voluntarily before. They shouldn't deprive a pregnant woman from registering for antenatal because she doesn't have anyone to donate blood. Very wrong |

Mopolchi:Quite notorious. Someone I know was refused registering for antenatal because she didn't have someone to donate blood |

Helada:Lagos state government hospitals does not sell blood. When you use blood, you only pay for screening and you replace the blood when you are to be discharged by bringing a relative that will donate back what you used. No body needs your money, what they need is blood to save mothers and children |

muyinet:Screening the blood at blood bank headquarters is not free,it is to make it safe for use either for you or for the next user. You are saying this because you actually did not make use of the blood. What if you needed blood and it was non-where to be found and your life is at stake, will you be talking about 7,000? Well it is generally known that African do not care about their health, they leave things in the hand of God and go to party |

newoffer:You where scammed. The policy is bring blood and not money. You probably think money can save you, that is why you went for the money option, normally you can bring a relative to donate or pay some miscreants/ professional donors around to donate for you |

munas:So you mean to tell us that Lagos State Government does not have personnel and equipment to screen ordinary blood? So what are they using the huge taxes they collect from residences and the huge IGR to do? |
| Re: Court Stops Lagos Public Hospitals From Demanding Blood Donations For Childbirth by wirinet(m): 12:21pm On Mar 06, 2020 |
Scholar212:Maybe patients should be charged for card, consultancy, doctors and nurses fees, bedspaces, etc also. You talk as if Lagos State residents don't pay taxes. You talk as if government is a private organisation and not public service. If I can freely donate my own blood to save a life, it is immoral for a state government to collect money to screen the same blood. Afterall, I did not collect money for food to make the blood. |

noblealuu:Pls tell me more about island maternity, someone told me to use them when i eant to give birth, that they hardly perform CS except on very dire situations of which you would have been informed before your due date. I use mcc and i was advised not to birth there because they prioritise CS Than vaginal delivery. I am confused. Pls advise. |
| Re: Court Stops Lagos Public Hospitals From Demanding Blood Donations For Childbirth by NoToPile: 1:43pm On Mar 07 |
cuteeme:Which MCC ? I do know people say these things about MCC but I will just tell you the truth , if there's no medical reason to suggest a CS they won't recommend one and then people go on to say they prioritise CS. There has to be a reason and the doctors will tell the mother ahead. From experience of co ANC women that had CS 1.Previous CS is an indication but still I was in the ward with a woman who had a previous CS and had a virginal birth the only thing was they didn't argument labor, they allowed it progress naturally and they explained to them why they can't augment. 2. Size/position of baby 3. Things that can arise during labor that may require an emergency CS 4. All other medical things that they talk about. Some of us had our babies at one of the MCCs and CS was never suggested at any point and for many other mothers around. So I can even tell you the same can apply to island maternity, if there's a need for it it will be recommend if not then VIrginal it is. So maybe the person/people advising you had an indication for CS and that one experience is used as a yard stuck |

Joeboy88:Nobody pays for blood in Nigeria. Blood is life and priceless. Nobody can pay for it, not even in the USA.. What you paid for is the cost of screening, storage and keeping the blood safe for transfusion. In Nigeria, it cost between 30k-55k to keep a pint of blood safe. Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, VDRL tests, ABO blood grouping test, Crosshatching, Blood bank, Storage, logistics, Electricity etc are all not free. They cost money.. The money you paid at the lab covers these value chain not the blood unit itself. In the USA, these tests and factors cost about $180-$250 for 1 pint of blood.. |
