mikeapollo:It would be hard for them to get an injunction against eviction, the way the FG had managed the trade fair and the manner the complex management has operated makes inevitable that the complex would be demolished. Of what use is a trade fair that doesn't host fairs, is not temporary in nature and operates as a market. The Lagos government may seem to build another super structure for use in expos and industry trade fairs, these are usually auditoriums or open areas with conference rooms and meeting areas not small shops in a congested buildings. |
| Re: Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Shut Over Planned Government Takeover by Afrojuju2017(m): 4:27pm On Mar 11 |
Hedonisco:It's impossible to reverse this as if the state and LG go to supreme court they'll win 100% of the time just by citing the constitution which makes it clear without equivocation that markets are the remit of local governments. |
| Re: Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Shut Over Planned Government Takeover by Afrojuju2017(m): 4:33pm On Mar 11 |
peleson1:The trade fair is Lagos state and LG land annexed by the FG for the express purpose of the 1977/ 78 trade fair since then it has never continuously served the purpose of that trade fair but has become a market with permanent stalls, there are more than enough supreme court judgment that further federalism which is what our constitution guaranteed. We all argue that we want federalism, devolution of federal powers and decentralisation but the simple logic of federal government handing over the trade fair complex suddenly becomes a no go area. This is something that would happen more going forward a lot of FG assets nationwide is being handed to states, Lagos state already took control of the former FG state house in Marina, same has happened in Enugu, Kogi and Ibadan that I know of, all those old abandoned federal secretariats are being handed to state governments because a lot of them were creations of a military unitary doctrine which we are moving away from. |

kingsavage:Who are migrants? You who migrated from one of the southwest states is original owner of Lagos? The way we reason in this country doesn't give hope for a progressive Nigeria. So parochial and with primordial interests. Very sad 😭 |

[sup][/sup] peleson1:The governments and individuals over the years who managed the trade fair complex are the thieves who allowed individuals to build on FG land, anyone who has a shop there would only have a lease no building there would have a C/O therefore the individuals who have invested there knee full well that they were investing illegally because a trade fair complex is not intended to be a permanent market with traders permanently situated rather it is meant to host different traders temporarily. I'm certain none of the people who runs stalls there would be able to provide legitimate documents that transfers the right to permanent ownership of space to them. It's unfortunate but they knowingly engaged in illegality which unfortunately exposes you to real risk. |

Stolen:Igbos will never learn. They spend their money all the time building structures in other states while leaving their own place. Serves them right. After they have finished building, Tinubu now wants to hand it over to his people so that they can use the levy they collect from the Igbos to become billionaires while the Igbos continue to hustle for them. Igbos will never learn. |

DomPerignon:You forget that Lagos was jointly developed by all Nigerians. From Otuoke in Bayelsa state to Kaura Namoda in Zamfara state northern Nigeria? So, it's foolhardy to claim Lagos belongs to a particular ethnic group to the Total exclusion of other ethnic groups in the country. By the way, how much do you pay as tax in a to Lagos state government that you are claiming to be more Lagosian than others?, Lagos is our common heritage and we share in the patrimony. |

Do not build such in Lagos.......the yoruba majority are not happy about your dominance in commerce...........o seti go! |
| Re: Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Shut Over Planned Government Takeover by shortgun(m): 5:22pm On Mar 11 |
DomPerignon:Stop displaying your ignorance everywhere. The property belongs to the Federal Government, not Lagos State The complex was built and owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria, not Lagos State. Federal assets belong to all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity or state of origin. If an asset is federal, citizens from any part of the country have the right to do business there |

[quote author=Kewekubosineh post=138736832]Yes. They own Lagos. Don't you know? Tell me what you can do for yourselves, apart from tax collection and agberoism. I am not your quarry. I only quoted you. Your missive is best directed to the jetsam and flotsam of the society you claimed to have developed. Is it wise not to gloat over your achievements in Lagos and seek to integrate and blend with the society so it can be bigger and better for all? That way your investments are safer. I am not surprised though. Chinua Achebe once said about the Igbo as follows- "There is no doubt at all that there is a strand in contemporary Igbo behaviour that can offend; by its noisy exhibitionism and disregard for humility and quietness." |

Kewekubosineh: is Lagos not in Sw yorubaland? How is the movement of Yorubas , from one part of Yorubaland to another now your problem? I’m from Lagos and we share the same language, culture tradition and heritage with everyother part of yorubaland and artificial boundaries can’t divide us that why we are so United and we don’t practice the primitive Osu caste system here….btw proudly Lagos ![]() |

shekauvsbuhari: let them continue developing Lagos and come online to chest beat how they have bought the whole land in Lagos😂😂😂 They really don’t understand that it is still yorubaland and just on lease and held in trust by the Govt that’s why they issue certificate of occupancy and not ownership, but wetin trader know, let them continue in their folly and be mocking the Yorubas for selling their land to them…..we wise pass them ![]() |

Kewekubosineh:😂😂😂 jointly indeed but Anambala was solely developed by ibos including Niger bridge and all the infrastructure in ibo land…….NwOSU, don’t forget the constitution recognises Indigenous people, that’s why we still use state of origin and not citizenship…..that was done to separate the wheat from the chaff, so continue deluding yourself btw proudly Lagos ![]() |

There is no way government will take land and give non indigenes that it will not cause problems. It was the cause of the abandoned property issue in PH, Calabar and etc. You can't take a portion of Igbo land and give to Yorubas to build 1000 houses and think it will stand. If the locals give or sell the land by themselves there would have been no issues |

Afrojuju2017:Am I missing something? ... isn't it presently owned by the FG? ...which wants to turn it over to the State/LG? ...and the sellers are afraid if this happens taxes and fees etc will increase? |
