The school said that the tuition fee is paid based on courses registered and I can only know how much I will pay in July during course registration. for accommodation, I can only pay in June.
Should I pay only the 2k CAD and apply for study permit?

Yes, follow the instructions the school gave you.

When applying for your visa, include a copy of the email from the school with your other documents and explain to IRCC that you are willing to pay more, but the school advised that the $2,000 deposit is sufficient for now.

Also state that you have the full funds in your account and are able to pay more if required.

That explanation should be sufficient. Just make sure you include that email to IRCC, as it will strengthen your application.

The reason the school does not want you to pay more than $2,000 is because, if your visa is not approved, it is easier for them to refund a smaller deposit. However, I wish you the best and hope everything goes smoothly.

Before graduation, if they cannot find another school and secure admission and a visa, the next best option is to book the next flight to MMA1.

I will never advise anyone who came as a student or even on Vistor visa, and whose plans did not work out, to apply for asylum.

Do you really understand what asylum is, what it takes, and the process involved? If you are coming from Nigeria, the probability of rejection is very high because Nigeria has a high asylum refusal rate. I have spoken about this countless times.

Please, I beg you, ehiremen2002, do not take that advice.

You do not really need Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) for students visa employment letter and pay stub should be good enought but anyways

if you need it you need it so...... If you have been working for a company, ask your employer. I believe they have been deducting taxes from your salary during that period. if you are a full time staff I believe.

In Lagos that I know even before this new Tinube tax , employers are responsible for deducting employees taxes through the PAYE system.

Upon your request, they should also be able to facilitate obtaining your Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) from the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).

Your employer can assist by submitting the necessary records required to process and obtain the certificate.

Another school option would likely be too expensive right now, so the most realistic path we are considering is LMIA.

Since she is my cousin, we have been trying to connect with a law firm that might be willing to support an LMIA process. We believe this could be possible because paralegals may be in demand in Ontario, especially for candidates who complete their studies locally.

From checking the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) website, there are about 451 registered paralegals in Ontario, and realistically some of them may no longer be actively practicing.

My cousin is currently completing her Paralegal program at Algonquin College, and she will begin her field placement in September. Interestingly, her professor mentioned that Algonquin College has stopped accepting new students into the paralegal program, which could potentially reduce the number of new graduates entering the profession in the future.

Another option we have considered is activating a family business that has been incorporated for a while but hasn’t been actively operating yet. The idea would be to use the business to employ her and potentially pursue LMIA that way. However, since the company has not generated profits yet, we are not sure it would meet the requirements to sponsor an LMIA.

For now, we will see how things develop between now and September.

We are also considering the possibility of her taking a scheduled break between Level 2 and Level 3 semesters just to have some breathing space and reassess the best path forward.

If anyone here has experience with LMIA for paralegals or similar situations in Ontario, your advice would be appreciated.

It depends on what exactly you are looking at.

I am already in Canada. I came here through the study route a couple of years ago, and I actually got most of the information that helped me from this same Nairaland forum.

Everything I know today about the process started from here. I eventually secured my PR, and since then I have been using this same forum to guide family members and friends who are trying to follow a similar path.

Whenever I come across situations where I am not completely sure about the best advice to give, I bring the matter back here so people can share ideas. And by God’s grace, many people have successfully come to Canada through the same route after getting guidance here.

So I’m not really sure what you mean by analyzing my post history.

You can take your time, grab a drink if you like, and go through my posts from the very first one when I was asking questions about coming to Canada as a student.

At the end of the day, the same forum you are trying to analyze is the one that helped someone come to Canada, study, and eventually secure permanent residency.

Lufthansa has a Lagos - Frankfurt - Halifax route. Yes, they will issue your study permit at YHZ (Halifax Standfield Int'l Airport)

I gave it a test myself, and you are absolutely right—it just keeps rolling and eventually stops. It does seem like there might be a system glitch. My suggestion would be to wait a bit and try again later, as these things sometimes resolve themselves. Alternatively, you could post your concern on the Express Entry thread; there’s a good chance someone who has faced a similar issue—and found a solution—will chime in with helpful advice.

I remember the system used to give both "BVN" and "NIN" as options, but now it looks like only "NIN" is available. If you don’t get responses on the thread and you need to sort this out urgently, your final option might be to visit the Alagbon CID office in person. Hopefully, though, it won’t come to that, and you will be able to resolve everything online, which would definitely save you both time and extra expenses.

In many of these cases, they were issued a one-year visitor record. The problem, however, is that with a visitor record they are allowed to stay in Canada but cannot work.

Good day everyone. I hope this message finds someone who can help me out with basic informations on how to proceed.
I got an admission for a practical nursing program in Thunderbay.
First part of the tuition has been paid and PAL received.
Took a closer look at my letter of acceptance today and was seeing “Expiry of letter of acceptance: March 26, 2026”

Does this mean I have to submit my application for a study permit before the date there? The program starts January 11th, 2027.

I have loads of questions but this is the first part of it for now. I need answers, please.

You know that getting extensions after a PGWP has expired is different from the case we are talking about here. In this situation, she does not even qualify for a PGWP in the first place.

The last time Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) did something like that was back in 2023.

Canada previously allowed an extra 18-month open work permit for PGWP holders whose permits expired in 2023.

There is some cases where students got nominations in pnp and recommendations in RCIP with job offer from their employers before completing their studies for previous work experience in demand occupations they applied for PR before study permit expires..
Note:work experience as a student does not count in PNP.

IRCC is gradually relaxing lmia processing in some regions with unemployment rate below 6%....
And some sectors has no cap on lmia processing...
In April 2026 lmia processing will increase in rural areas from 10% to 15% for low wage,due to low admission of TFWs to support employers in rural areas and those regions that will participate...

I was already aware of the PGWP extension policy, and I personally benefited from it.

That said, we’re not too worried. We have a meeting scheduled with a Nigerian immigration lawyer on Wednesday to discuss the situation and possible options. At the end of the day, when God has your back, nothing is impossible.

Interestingly, in the middle of all this, she coincidentally met a lawyer in Ontario through a friend. The lawyer had come to the same hostel to fix her hair, and during their conversation she explained her situation. After hearing her story, the lawyer agreed to take her into her law firm initially as a trainee to see how she might be able to support her, possibly until she obtains her license.

From what we understand, after completing her field placement, she may also be able to request some time to prepare for and complete the LSO licensing exam. To practice as a paralegal in Ontario, you must obtain the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) license.

If she schedules her licensing exam after graduation, she may be able to get some time before writing the exam, which could buy her additional time.

The hope is that if everything works out, the lawyer may eventually employ her as a licensed paralegal in the firm once she obtains her license.

For now, we are exploring all possible options and hoping for the best.

When you click Apply to come to Canada. You have option of using a personal reference code. If you dont have use the other option Determine your eligibility and apply online.

It depends on what exactly you are looking at.

I am already in Canada. I came here through the study route a couple of years ago, and I actually got most of the information that helped me from this same Nairaland forum.

Everything I know today about the process started from here. I eventually secured my PR, and since then I have been using this same forum to guide family members and friends who are trying to follow a similar path.

Whenever I come across situations where I am not completely sure about the best advice to give, I bring the matter back here so people can share ideas. And by God’s grace, many people have successfully come to Canada through the same route after getting guidance here.

So I’m not really sure what you mean by analyzing my post history.

You can take your time, grab a drink if you like, and go through my posts from the very first one when I was asking questions about coming to Canada as a student.

At the end of the day, the same forum you are trying to analyze is the one that helped someone come to Canada, study, and eventually secure permanent residency.

So instead of focusing on post history, the goal here should be sharing useful information and helping others succeed through the same path.

Good day boss, I got admission to study a one year pgwp eligible program (Disability support professional) at sask poly, I have deposit of $5k and and pof secured but I don’t have tuition balance of $15k cad. Is it realistically possible to work while in Canada and pay up the remaining tuition. Also do you have any reservations about a one year program.
